Chapter 311: I Won’t Agree
The emergence of the Demon Race Bloodline was naturally a top priority. Though Du Chuntian stated the obvious, the entire group fixed their sharp gazes on the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect sitting atop the platform, their eyes like piercing blades.
"Brother Changchun, do you have anything to share regarding this matter?" Du Chuntian smiled when the Sect Leader remained silent.
The Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect slowly lifted his gaze. As the sect’s leader, few dared address him by his personal name—Yan Changchun—these days.
"There’s no need for haste, Brother Du. Since this incident occurred, the Heavenly Sword Sect won’t evade responsibility. We’ll provide an explanation," Yan Changchun declared, rising to his feet as his eyes swept across the assembly.
"Good. The blood feud between the Demon Race and human race remains unbroken even after millennia. Any encounter between our races must end in annihilation," Du Chuntian replied before sipping from his wine cup.
"Sect Leader, our emperor entrusted us with a message," the yellow-robed royal envoy stated calmly.
Yan Changchun’s eyebrow twitched. "Speak."
"The emperor said: Should the Heavenly Sword Sect deny the emergence of Demon Race Bloodline, we’re to discuss protecting humanity’s future. If no agreement is reached, we’ll resolve it ourselves," the royal said.
A dangerous glint flashed in Yan Changchun’s eyes. "And how exactly would Prince Hong ‘resolve’ this without agreement?"
The Sect Leader’s voice carried murderous intent. While Du Chuntian relied on his cultivation level, what gave these Jin Kingdom princes the audacity to threaten them in the divine hall?
Prince Hong—Duan Hongcheng—was the emperor’s second brother. Beside him sat third brother Prince Yun, Duan Yunsha. The royal siblings ruled Jin Kingdom seamlessly, their unified power unchallenged except by the Heavenly Sword Sect and Du family.
"His Majesty ordered us to bring troops," Prince Hong smiled. "To contain any sudden transformations of the Demon Race Bloodline."
Yan Changchun’s eyes turned glacial. The threat was clear: resistance from the Heavenly Sword Sect would mean war.
Did these fools truly believe their soldiers could crush the sect? Absurd.
"Brother Changchun, forgive my second brother’s bluntness," Prince Yun stood and bowed slightly.
Yan Changchun responded with a cold snort.
"Have you forgotten the Heavenly Sword Sect’s might after our years of seclusion?" Elder Zi rose, his gaze sharp as winter frost.
"Elder Zi misunderstands. The sect’s prestige is renowned throughout Jin Kingdom—even in the distant Great Qin Empire," Prince Yun replied smoothly.
Elder Zi’s stern expression faltered. Yan Changchun’s piercing stare locked onto Prince Yun.
"What does Prince Yun mean by this?"
"The demon calamity approaches… and a sword comes from the west."
"It’s truly happening?" Elder Zi’s voice shook.
"Imminently," Prince Yun confirmed.
Yan Changchun drew a steadying breath. "So the old prophecy holds truth. We sensed disturbances half a year ago, but never imagined…"
"Brother Changchun, when will this Demon Blood girl arrive? Let’s test her and conclude this," Du Chuntian said, swirling his ceramic cup.
Before Yan Changchun could answer, a booming voice echoed across miles:
"So Leader Du traveled a thousand miles for my daughter. How unexpected."
As the final word faded, two figures materialized in the divine hall.
Su Hao stood with his hands behind his back, his eyes bright as he scanned the crowd and nodded slightly.
He led Su Ling ahead while Elder Seven followed behind with the others. Since Shui Qingxuan lacked cultivation, their pace slowed considerably.
Du Chuntian studied Su Hao and the slender girl beside him before remarking, "This must be the girl carrying the Demon Race Bloodline."
"Leader Du speaks carelessly. My daughter hasn’t been tested yet. How can we speak of Demon Race Bloodline? Perhaps she bears an immortal bloodline instead," Su Hao replied gently.
"Peak Master of the Shadowless Peak jests. The immortal bloodline is mere legend, unseen for millennia. We know you cherish your daughter, but outsiders cannot be trusted. The ancient feud between humans and demons permits no leniency," Duan Yunsha stated gravely.
"Ah, Prince Yun! Five years have passed since our last meeting. I’ve missed our discussions," Su Hao turned, momentarily startled.
The two had met five years prior in Jin Kingdom’s royal court, exchanging insights on the Path of Cultivation. Their rapport had been strong then.
Su Hao hadn’t expected Duan Yunsha to arrive with troops alongside Duan Hongcheng, determined to resolve the "demon blood issue."
"Simple enough," Duan Yunsha smiled. "If your daughter lacks demon blood, we’ll converse through the night as before. If not…"
"If not, will Prince Yun personally slay the demon?" Su Hao’s smile remained.
"That depends on Sect Leader Yan’s judgment. Should Heavenly Sword Sect falter, we’ll intervene," Duan Yunsha answered.
Su Hao laughed loudly, surveying the gathering. "All Jin Kingdom’s prominent figures have come for my daughter!"
"Shadowless Peak Master exaggerates," Elder Yin rasped, leaning on her dragon-headed cane. "This old woman simply doubts demon blood’s existence."
Sun Yidao of Ba Dao Sect stepped forward. "If no demon blood exists, we’ll depart immediately. Our apologies for the intrusion."
Su Hao waved dismissively, his gaze softening as he looked at his pale daughter.
"Wuqing, administer the test."
Sect Leader Yan Changchun flicked his wrist. A blood-red pill materialized midair – End of the Demon.
Murong Wuqing caught the spinning pill. "Su Ling, swallow this."
The girl trembled violently, clutching Su Hao’s arm until her knuckles whitened.
Patting his daughter’s cheek, Su Hao suddenly grinned at the floating pill. "Apologies, but my daughter declines your End of the Demon. Save it for another day."
Silence gripped the hall. Even Yan Changchun blinked in disbelief.
Su Hao refused the test?
A mere Seventh Level of Foundation Establishment cultivator daring to defy this assembly?
Elder Shi rose sharply. "Su Hao! Do you comprehend your words?"
"Has age dulled your ears, Elder Shi? We reject this ‘End of the Demon’," Su Hao repeated calmly.
The silence deepened.
"Shadowless Peak Master, you choose poorly," Du Chuntian sighed, clinking his porcelain cup.
Prince Hong and Prince Yun glared daggers at Su Hao as sect leaders exchanged astonished looks.
"Know this," Yan Changchun frowned. "The demon-human blood feud spans eternity. Even if demon blood exists, this pill might purge it without killing her."
Su Hao chuckled. "No demon blood needs no pill. True demon blood would shatter her meridians and dissolve bones, leaving her a cripple. You call this mercy?"
"Better crippled than dead," Yan Changchun countered.
Su Hao’s laughter shook the hall. "I refuse! Has my daughter harmed anyone in sixteen years? Shall we maim her for hypothetical threats? I. WILL. NOT. COMPLY!"
His final words thundered through the silence.
