Chapter 308: The Mural on the Stone Wall
“How is this possible?”
Su Hao froze for a moment before suddenly leaping to his feet.
Ye Yun’s expression turned grave, his nod heavy with unspoken solemnity.
“Where did you learn this?” Su Hao understood the gravity of the matter. If Ye Yun’s words held truth, disaster loomed.
“From an old wanderer I once met. If Aunt Xuan’s ability truly belongs to the Demon Race supernatural powers, it must be the Eye of Truth—a power that pierces all illusions. It’s truly miraculous,” Ye Yun murmured, lowering his voice.
Su Hao stared at him, silent for a long while.
Ye Yun waited patiently. He knew Su Hao’s mind must be torn between doubt and dread—denial would leave Shui Qingxuan’s inexplicable powers unexplained.
Time crawled as master and disciple stood motionless in the courtyard, shadows lengthening with the fading light.
“Ah!”
Su Hao’s sigh spilled forth, thick with anguish.
Ye Yun understood. This sigh meant acceptance—Shui Qingxuan’s ability to discern cultivation levels and techniques despite lacking cultivation herself could only be the Demon Race’s Eye of Truth. Everything now made terrible sense.
“This stays between us. Not a word to your Master or Ling’er,” Su Hao gripped Ye Yun’s shoulder, his tone iron.
Ye Yun nodded. Revealing this now might shatter Su Ling.
“Finished yet? Dinner’s ready.” Shui Qingxuan’s voice floated from the cottage doorway, where the elegant woman leaned.
“We’re done here, Aunt Xuan.” Ye Yun turned with practiced ease, smile bright.
Su Hao forced a thin smile.
Shui Qingxuan’s eyes narrowed. “Then stop lingering.”
Cultivators at the foundation establishment stage seldom needed food—spiritual energy from pills sufficed. Yet old habits died hard. Su Hao kept monthly meal rituals to accompany his cultivation-less wife.
The modest meal—five dishes, plain congee—passed without mention of Su Ling’s Bloodline Awakening. All would be decided in three days with the End of the Demon.
“Ye Yun,” Su Hao set down his bowl, “I’ve neglected your training. Tonight, I’ll assess your cultivation and teach what suits you.”
Ye Yun’s eyes lit up. He gulped his congee and sprang up.
Master and disciple departed without farewells, vanishing into the starlit path.
“Where are they going?” Su Ling frowned after them.
Shui Qingxuan smoothed her daughter’s hair. “Ye Yun progresses unnaturally fast. Though at the third level of Qi refining, even Yinxue can’t match him now.”
Su Yinxue nodded. “His cultivation seems meager, but his combat strength… overwhelming.”
“That cheat got treasures from the Hualun Secret Vault!” Su Ling pouted. “The great tomb! Thunder Spirit Qi, Fire Spirit Qi—he bragged about having enough resources to reach the pinnacle of Qi refining!”
Between trusted kin, the story spilled out—every secret from the Hualun depths laid bare.
Shui Qingxuan and Su Yinxue grew increasingly shocked as they listened. The supposedly low-risk great tomb had actually concealed such deadly dangers. Were it not for Ye Yun and Su Ling’s sheer luck, they might never have escaped alive.
The two women exchanged glances. Unlike naive Su Ling, they grasped the full implications immediately. Though Su Ling’s explanation was jumbled and unclear in parts, they reconstructed the events vividly in their minds.
Regarding the Hualun Secret Vault incident, Shui Qingxuan recalled Su Hao mentioning how Ouyang Wentian’s group had entered years ago. They’d nearly perished without obtaining decent treasures. Now it appeared the vault did contain treasures – most likely snatched up entirely by that scoundrel Ye Yun.
"No wonder his cultivation level seems so abnormal," Su Yinxue murmured, her lingering doubts finally resolved.
"Ling’er," Shui Qingxuan frowned slightly, "What do you sense about that strange bloodline within you? Try focusing inward – any changes or sensations?"
Su Ling pouted. "I’ve been checking nonstop for hours! Nothing! If Ye Yun and Sister hadn’t witnessed my transformation themselves, I’d never believe I carry Demon Race Bloodline!"
"Ling’er," Su Yinxue interjected suddenly, "You know Mother possesses a special ability, yes?"
"Of course! She sees everyone’s cultivation levels and techniques!" Su Ling nodded vigorously. "When I was still in body refinement stage, I could already see Sister’s late-stage Qi refining cultivation. Now I’m starting to glimpse foundation establishment levels too! Must be Mother’s bloodline gift – it’s amazing!"
Su Yinxue ignored her sister’s enthusiasm, turning to Shui Qingxuan. "Mother… this ability of yours. Was it always there? Why can’t you cultivate?"
Shui Qingxuan answered slowly, "Born with it. Since childhood, I’ve seen cultivation levels. As for cultivation… your father studied my condition. My meridians are completely blocked – no true qi flow possible."
Su Yinxue bit her lip, brows furrowed deeply.
"Sister? What’s wrong?" Su Ling tilted her head.
Shui Qingxuan’s calm expression suddenly stiffened, growing solemn.
Moonlight bathed the forbidden back mountain of Shadowless Peak where two figures walked – one slightly trailing the other.
"Master," Ye Yun broke the silence after miles of walking, "Did you bring me here to say something?"
Su Hao stopped abruptly. "Even without the End of the Demon test, I know Ling’er’s Demon Race Bloodline has awakened."
Ye Yun stared in shock. "Master! Do you realize what you’re-"
"Twenty years ago," Su Hao continued relentlessly, "I met your Master in an impossible place."
"How… impossible?"
"Unimaginable until seen. Here… in Shadowless Peak." Su Hao’s voice betrayed no emotion.
Ye Yun scanned their moonlit surroundings – chirping insects, silver-drenched stones, utter tranquility. "Here?!"
Nodding, Su Hao sat on a stone. "Watch."
The moment moonlight struck the stone wall behind Su Hao, intricate patterns materialized.
"Monthly occurrence," Su Hao stood, gazing at the glowing wall. "This pattern brought us together."
But Ye Yun wasn’t listening. He gaped at the familiar markings, blood draining from his face. "This… this can’t exist here!"
