Chapter 297: Aftermath
Ye Yun’s voice crashed like thunder into Su Ling’s ears.
Su Ling’s body suddenly shook violently, her pain-filled eyes gradually calming.
She took a deep breath as a light shadow flickered across her hand. "Withdraw!" she whispered.
Instantly, the purple light shadows vanished completely—neither returning to her body nor attacking anything. They disappeared without trace, as though never existing.
Darkness returned to her eyes while her silver hair turned jet-black again, cascading like a waterfall over her shoulders. She appeared fully normal now.
Only the golden rune-like mark on her forehead remained slightly faded, not disappearing entirely.
"Ye Yun, Sister, are you unharmed?"
Su Ling descended swiftly, rushing toward them.
The teal Jade Cloud Umbrella bore several holes eroded by purple droplets—this top-grade spiritual weapon now lay ruined. Yet without it, Ye Yun’s group would’ve perished.
Su Yinxue waved her delicate hand, making the umbrella vanish.
"We’re fine," she replied, catching Su Ling while smiling at her anxious face.
Ye Yun studied Su Ling, frowning at the unchanged golden mark on her forehead.
"Ling’er, explain what happened," he pressed.
The True Fire Flying Lion and Jun Ruolan’s scheme nearly succeeded. Only Su Ling’s sudden Demon Race Bloodline Awakening prevented their deaths in Soul-Cutting Mountains.
Yet none understood—how could Su Ling harbor Demon Race blood?
Su Yinxue and Duan Chenfeng wore equally confused expressions. As Su Ling’s sister, Su Yinxue had witnessed no signs these past decade. Their companions knew Su Ling well—had she truly demonized earlier?
All stared breathlessly at Su Ling.
"I don’t understand either," she shook her head. "When Ye Yun and Vulture King faced death under True Fire Flying Lion’s claws, an incomprehensible force erupted within me. It overwhelmed my will instantly. Only Ye Yun’s shout helped me retain sliver of consciousness—otherwise that power’s will would’ve fully claimed my body."
"Seizing the body?"
Su Yinxue’s group exchanged uneasy glances. Body-seizing belonged to myths and ancient texts—considered impossible for centuries.
But Ye Yun knew better. In the great tomb, Hualun had plotted body theft for millennia. Without his Heart of Immortals and Demons, she’d have succeeded.
Yet a Demon Race will hiding in bloodline made little sense—what power could dwell dormant there?
"This isn’t body theft. It’s Demon Race Bloodline Awakening."
The Ancestor of the Sword Path’s aged voice echoed in Ye Yun’s mind.
"Demon bloodlines don’t awaken lightly. Each forms through accumulated deaths of dozens—even hundreds—of Demon Race experts."
"Explain," Ye Yun demanded mentally.
"Details escape me, but Demon bloodlines are rare treasures. Awakening grants techniques, Great Techniques, Battle Experience—even memories—from ancestors. Millennia-old memories imply vital secrets preserved through Great Techniques."
"You mean Ling’er could gain hundreds of demons’ powers and memories? What of the will she mentioned?" Ye Yun pressed urgently.
"The little girl’s weak cultivation can’t withstand such power. The bloodline’s force overwhelmed her instantly. Though consciousness would’ve returned after energy discharge regardless. Worry not for her body—focus instead on silencing rumors. If her Demon Race identity spreads…" The Ancestor’s tone remained Gentle.
Ye Yun’s face paled as he stared at Su Ling’s golden mark.
"Ye Yun? What troubles you?" Su Yinxue noticed his distraction.
Ye Yun looked at the crowd and slowly said, "I hope everyone will forget what just happened."
His voice was gentle but struck them like thunder. As Ye Yun said, the events were too unbelievable and terrifying. If word spread about Su Ling being of the Demon Race, the Heavenly Sword Sect could face unimaginable trouble.
Su Yinxue and Duan Chenfeng turned to the four Tian Shen Peak disciples.
The disciples froze before shaking their heads. The leader spoke: "We’ve already forgotten everything. It was Jun Ruolan who went mad, teaming with the True Fire Flying Lion to control criminals against us. We’d be dead without your help."
"Good. If I hear rumors, I’ll kill you even if it means sect punishment," Ye Yun said coldly.
"We swear silence," they chorused, fists clasped.
Ye Yun’s expression softened.
"But two others know," Duan Chenfeng warned. "Jun Ruolan and the True Fire Flying Lion."
The lion couldn’t leave Soul-Cutting Mountains, but Jun Ruolan had escaped using the Shadow Escape Talisman. With the mountains reopening soon, her revealing Su Ling’s secret would be disastrous.
Su Ling turned pale. Though usually bold, terror gripped her. "What’s happening? How could I be Demon Race?" Tears streamed down her jade-like cheeks.
"Stay calm," Su Yinxue comforted. "You scared off the lion and killed many spirit beasts. This mustn’t leak – even if you’re innocent, trouble would follow."
Su Ling looked to Ye Yun.
"Jun Ruolan’s badly hurt," Ye Yun said. "Search separately. Signal when found – kill immediately."
Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong nodded with murderous intent. The Tian Shen Peak disciples hesitated.
"If you side with Jun Ruolan, we’ll become mortal enemies," Su Yinxue stated coldly.
"Swear by heaven’s laws to hunt her now, or die here," Ye Yun demanded. Killing intent thickened around him.
The disciples shivered. Though injured, Ye Yun’s group and the Divine Feather Vulture King could easily kill them.
"Senior Brother Zhen" shouted angrily: "That traitor nearly killed us! I’ll kill her first!" Another added: "We swear – in Soul-Cutting Mountains, we’ll slay Jun Ruolan on sight!"
They took binding cultivation oaths without hesitation.
"Good," Ye Yun smiled. "Search thoroughly, or face my Purple Shadow Sword."
The disciples split east and west. Ye Yun turned to others: "I’ll take Su Ling south. Senior Sister Yinxue, take Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong north. Jun Ruolan must die."
Su Yinxue’s group nodded and flew away.
