Chapter 289: Divine Talisman
Crack!
The Blue Talisman as thin as cicada wings suddenly exploded, scattering blue light particles across the sky.
"Ice Arrow Talisman!"
Su Yinxue’s low shout echoed as the blue specks instantly gathered into an ice arrow, piercing through the layered illusions of the Thousand Zhang Phoenix Silk to shoot straight at Jun Ruolan.
The ice arrow moved with blinding speed, radiating immense power. Ye Yun and Duan Chenfeng had never seen Su Yinxue unleash such a devastating attack. This strike defied all expectations, leaving them utterly dumbfounded.
Neither could understand why Su Yinxue hadn’t used this talisman earlier when facing mortal danger. Had she unleashed it then, even peak-condition Murong Wuhen wouldn’t have dared confront its fury – a single strike could’ve meant instant death and disappearance of the spirit.
Though Jun Ruolan had shown various expressions since her arrival, none matched the pure astonishment now twisting her features.
"A Divine Talisman? You actually possess one?" Jun Ruolan’s shrill voice cracked with disbelief.
As the blue projectile neared, Jun Ruolan’s hands blurred. The Thousand Zhang Phoenix Silk materialized before her chest in defensive formation.
The supposedly lethal attack suddenly reversed roles. The mighty offensive treasure now served as a shield against Su Yinxue’s Divine Talisman.
Boom!
The collision between ice arrow and phoenix silk erupted in dazzling light. Shockwaves rippled outward, forcing Ye Yun’s group to retreat repeatedly. Even airborne spirit beasts scattered to avoid the explosive energy.
Only the True Fire Flying Lion remained unaffected, its fur undisturbed by the raging winds – testament to its formidable power.
Jun Ruolan flew backward like a leaf in storm, skidding over a hundred zhang before steadying herself with a dozen staggered steps, face drained of color.
"How…?" Her voice trembled. "The Heavenly Sword Sect’s few Divine Talismans are kept by the Sect Leader! At your cultivation level, you shouldn’t access even 1% of its power! Such waste!"
Su Yinxue stood silent, clear eyes fixed on her opponent across the distance. Then her body swayed and collapsed.
Ye Yun flashed forward, catching her moments before impact. Thunder rumbled as he retreated another hundred zhang in eyeblink speed.
Above, the True Fire Flying Lion’s eyes narrowed – Ye Yun’s velocity had surpassed its expectations.
"What’s wrong with sister?" Su Ling fretted.
"True qi exhaustion," Ye Yun answered, cradling the unconscious woman. "Her wounds never properly healed. She’ll recover after rest."
Su Ling exhaled in relief. "What’s a Divine Talisman anyway?"
"Mother mentioned it once," Su Ling pondered. "A special spiritual weapon forged into talisman paper. Requires rare cosmic energy harvested through secret techniques to inscribe powerful arrays. Hence the name Divine Talisman."
"That energy must be incredibly scarce," Ye Yun pressed. "And the crafting process…"
"Exactly. The paper’s secondary – that energy’s the true challenge. Neither our sect nor the entire Jin Kingdom can produce it. They say Golden Core stage users could make oceans reverse course with these!"
"Unbelievable. That ice arrow surpassed Senior Sister Yinxue’s normal power – Foundation Establishment stage four, maybe five!"
"But how’d she obtain one?" Duan Chenfeng interjected. "If Jin can’t make them…"
"They must come from the Great Qin Empire," Yu Minghong cut in, eyes briefly gleaming.
"Of course! The Great Qin Empire!" Duan Chenfeng slapped his thigh.
After transferring Su Yinxue to Su Ling, Ye Yun stepped forward, frost in his gaze. "Since you’ve abandoned all brotherhood, Sister Jun, I’ll end you here. Fitting – our first meeting, our last. Poetic, really."
Jun Ruolan’s face paled, a mocking smile flashing in her eyes. “Fine. If you can kill me here, Ye Yun, I’ll accept my fate.”
Suddenly, her voice sharpened, rising sharply. “True Fire Flying Lion! Why delay your strike?”
“Hahaha…” The True Fire Flying Lion imitated human laughter. “You… keep… keep fighting… good show, keep going!”
“Sister Jun, the True Fire Flying Lion won’t act. Seems we must settle this ourselves.” Ye Yun shrugged, smiling as he took another step forward. He seemed utterly ordinary—not yet at the Foundation Establishment stage, lacking refined spiritual energy, no pressure coming from him.
Yet his eyes grew brighter, clearer than ever.
*Clang—*
The bronze bell’s urgent toll echoed again. Thirty criminals lunged, forming a spearhead formation before Su Yinxue. Each pressed palms to the back of the one ahead, funneling true qi into their leader—the Foundation Establishment stage four criminal.
But their qi, restored earlier by the bronze bell and Immortal Spirit Stone, had dwindled after repeated attacks. Even united now, their strike couldn’t harm Ye Yun.
Hands behind his back, Ye Yun advanced calmly, as if strolling through a garden. Yet behind him, Su Ling and Duan Chenfeng saw his two signals: *retreat slowly* and *beware the lion*.
Duan Chenfeng grasped it instantly. If the True Fire Flying Lion attacked, none could withstand it. Their only chance was to flee while the beast still mistook Ye Yun for its equal.
Ye Yun was right—Su Yinxue’s unconscious form made the others liabilities. In a real battle, even a lowly spirit beast could slaughter them.
Duan Chenfeng understood first, then Su Ling and Yu Minghong. Yet none moved, standing rooted like stones.
Ye Yun frowned, repeating the gestures. Still, his friends refused to budge.
“Ye Yun!” Duan Chenfeng bellowed. “Beat that bitch Jun Ruolan senseless! I’ll guard your back!”
Warmth stirred in Ye Yun’s chest. The crude words hid their pact: *We stay or die together.*
He knew the truth—once the True Fire Flying Lion saw through his bluff, even its casual strike could shred his flesh. Worse, the spirit beasts crouching nearby all matched Qi refining’s peak or Foundation Establishment strength.
“Duan Chenfeng!” Jun Ruolan’s voice dripped venom. “Survive the Soul-Cutting Mountains, and I’ll teach you agony beyond life or death!”
“Save your breath.” Duan Chenfeng sneered. “Recover your strength? Useless. Ye Yun’s pinkie could crush you soon.”
Ye Yun inched forward, slow as a lingering dream.
Jun Ruolan’s pallor deepened. She glared at the True Fire Flying Lion.
“Humans… fight… so boring. All talk.” The lion snorted, sensing her gaze.
Blue flames erupted around it as wings twitched. With a roar, the beast advanced, treading air like invisible stairs. Ten zhang from Ye Yun, it halted.
Ye Yun stood unmoved, hands clasped behind him.
“Vulture King.” His voice floated calm. “Care to join the game?”
