Chapter 273: Collapse
Ye Yun slammed the two spiritual weapons together.
The deep blue ice energy clashed with rising flames, unleashing an indescribable force that exploded through the air. This strange power flooded the entire battlefield.
Never had Ye Yun imagined these opposing spiritual weapons could truly merge. Now he could no longer sense their separate existences – only a single entity remained, a blazing fire containing a core of radiant ice.
The explosive magical flames and soul-chilling ice energy, forces that should repel each other, now blended seamlessly.
Fire Spirit Qi and Ice Spirit Qi surged from Ye Yun’s body into the merged weapon. A new understanding of fire element laws crystallized in his mind – genuine enlightenment, not vague intuition.
Remarkably, Ye Yun had grasped fire element laws before even reaching the Foundation Establishment stage. His Fire Spirit Qi now eclipsed all other energies within him, even surpassing Thunder Spirit Qi.
BOOM!
Through swirling stone fragments emerged the ten-zhang stone giant, now truly enraged. Upon seeing Ye Yun, its body exploded into rubble, leaving only its head suspended.
The debris swirled violently, bound by mysterious energy into a colossal hammer that smashed downward.
Pale but composed, Ye Yun showed no fear. A faint smile played on his lips.
"Ice Spirit Lock! Magical Flame Burst!"
He thrust his palms forward.
A shimmering ice dragon materialized, its ghostly blue form radiating icy brilliance as it charged the stone hammer. Behind it, exploding flames condensed into countless sparks before forming a flaming ancient divine beast.
CRACK!
The azure dragon struck the hammer, freezing it mid-swing within crystalline ice. With a thunderous crash, the ice mass plummeted to the stone ground – perfectly intact, revealing the trapped hammer’s every detail.
"SHATTER!" Ye Yun commanded. The flaming beast engulfed the ice prison before vanishing in a final fiery flash.
Web-like cracks spread across the ice. With a resounding SNAP, the frozen hammer disintegrated into glittering shards. Only the stone giant’s head remained, hovering lifelessly.
Ye Yun didn’t hesitate. Purple Shadow Sword flashed as he bisected the floating head. It exploded into fragments, scattering across the battlefield.
Gasping, Ye Yun turned deathly pale. Every ounce of energy had been drained – even a fifth level Qi refining stage opponent could kill him now.
"Ye Yun!" Su Ling caught him before he collapsed.
"Are you injured?" Su Yinxue asked, concern mixing with awe in her eyes.
Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong hurried over, excitement shining in their gazes.
"Just… drained," Ye Yun managed a weak smile. "No true qi remains. Full recovery… needs a day."
"The sect wouldn’t send unbeatable foes to Soul-Cutting Mountains," Duan Chenfeng reasoned quickly. "This stone giant was unexpected. We’re safe… for now."
“Duan Chenfeng is right; we won’t be in danger for now,” Su Yinxue nodded before adding, “The four of us will guard you. Focus on restoring your cultivation level quickly. You’re our core – you must stay in peak condition.”
“What about changes in the spatial array?” Ye Yun nodded. He understood their temporary safety, just as Duan Chenfeng and Su Yinxue had stated.
“The spatial array could shatter any moment. Who’d have thought the stone giant was the array’s core? Destroying it means the array collapses completely.” Su Yinxue smiled faintly, her beauty radiant.
“Then let’s descend and find safer ground. My recovery shouldn’t take long.” Ye Yun’s lips curved slightly.
Though temporarily secure, dangers lurked everywhere in Soul-Cutting Mountains – spirit beasts, ruthless outlaws, and four rival disciple teams who’d attack Ye Yun on sight.
Ye Yun had calculated his options. Depleted of true qi, normal recovery required over a day. But with sufficient spirit stones driven by Little Absorption Technique, the Heart of Immortals and Demons could accelerate absorption and refinement. Most disciples couldn’t afford this – top-grade spirit stones were too precious for daily cultivation, let alone reckless consumption.
But Ye Yun lacked neither spirit stones nor restorative pills. Three to four hours might suffice.
The spatial array groaned increasingly unstable. Something pounded beneath the stony ground, causing intermittent tremors. Soon the earth would shake and mountains sway.
“Exit found!” Su Ling called ahead. After ensuring Ye Yun’s safety, she’d scouted escape routes during the array’s collapse, fearing unpredictable consequences if they lingered.
Duan Chenfeng hoisted Ye Yun over his shoulder, sprinting toward Su Ling.
“Duan! At least carry me properly! This is embarrassing,” Ye Yun complained lightheartedly as they exited.
“Who cares about your dignity? You’re already a joke,” Duan Chenfeng retorted, ignoring protests.
“Such disrespect! Just wait till I recover – we’ll settle this!” Ye Yun chuckled.
“Settle nothing. Men drink their problems away,” Duan Chenfeng countered.
“Fine! After escaping Soul-Cutting Mountains, we’ll drink till dawn!”
“And me?” Su Ling materialized behind them, giggling at Ye Yun’s undignified position.
“You’ll serve wine. We’ll wreck your Small Courtyard!” Ye Yun threatened.
Su Ling smirked. “Try it. I’ll watch you fail.”
“You’re terrible at playing along.” Ye Yun’s cheek twitched.
She laughed, batting his dangling head. Depleted of true qi, Ye Yun could only endure the playful swats.
Emerging beneath starry skies, they witnessed the shuddering mountain. Boulders cascaded downhill as Su Yinxue hurried them away. After half an incense stick’s time and miles covered, they paused.
“Put me DOWN!” Ye Yun groaned, battered by the jostling ride.
Duan Chenfeng complied. Ye Yun staggered, saved from falling by Su Ling.
Turning, they watched the distant peak crumble – hundred zhang of stone reduced to flying fragments and dust clouds.
“Why did destroying the array’s core collapse the whole mountain?” Yu Minghong frowned.
Ye Yun’s eyes widened. “MOVE! NOW!”
