Chapter 272: Fist Like Heaven’s Grindstone
As Su Yinxue’s voice faded, the ten-zhang-tall stone giant unleashed an attack of overwhelming power.
It clasped its hands together, forming a colossal fist. Its arms crumbled into fragments of stone, held together by a thin thread, while the rest solidified into a massive hammer-like fist that smashed down toward Ye Yun.
Hearing Su Yinxue’s warning, Ye Yun barely had time to react before the fist descended. Without hesitation, the Purple Shadow Sword glowed with purple light as he slowly thrust it upward.
Born as a Sword!
This was his strongest offensive technique at this stage, one he found utterly extraordinary.
In an instant, the Purple Shadow Sword vibrated perfectly 1,024 times, each tremor identical in frequency and amplitude. Ye Yun had never executed Born as a Sword with such flawless precision.
Every shred of his true qi, every ounce of his offensive technique, even his very spirit and soul, fused into this single strike. The sword reached a state of perfect harmony, as though the entire world had vanished, leaving only the blade.
The giant fist crashed down with devastating force, colliding with the slowly rising Purple Shadow Sword.
Boom!
A deafening great crash erupted. Countless stone fragments exploded outward, and a shockwave surged in a circular ring, tearing through the air.
“Fall back! This energy is too strong!” Su Yinxue shouted, pulling Su Ling and the others to retreat for cover.
But as they moved, the raging shockwave and flying fragments suddenly halted ten zhang away, as if gripped by an invisible force. Then, with a violent recoil, they hurtled back toward Ye Yun and the stone giant.
Within the purple light shadow, Ye Yun stood with his sword raised skyward. Less than ten zhang away, the stone giant still clasped its hands. As the returning fragments and energy waves merged with it, the shattered fist reformed, now larger and more menacing, before slamming down again.
The fragments and energy hadn’t been wasted—instead, the stone giant absorbed them, crafting an attack even more powerful than before.
Ye Yun hadn’t anticipated this. Born as a Sword had been his ultimate strike, and in that moment, he’d felt unshakable confidence. He believed even a Foundation Establishment stage four expert would fall to this blow. His mindset had ascended; he was certain this sword would repel the giant.
Yet when he saw the shattered fist’s fragments reverse course, merging with the colliding forces to form a stronger attack, he froze.
What was happening? How?
Only now did Ye Yun truly feel the dread emanating from the Soul-Cutting Mountains—a terror beyond comprehension.
The reformed fist, now a gargantuan grindstone of stone and energy, plummeted to crush him into fragments.
Su Yinxue and the others paled. This strike was at least fifty percent stronger than the last. Ye Yun’s previous sword had seemed flawless—had it targeted them, none, not even Murong Wuhen, could’ve survived. Yet not only had it failed, it had amplified the giant’s power.
“Ye Yun, watch out!” Su Ling cried, her usual unwavering faith cracking under desperation.
Boom!
The grindstone-like fist struck with an earth-shaking roar, pulverizing stone into dust and rubble.
Su Yinxue’s group stared in horror. Ye Yun hadn’t dodged. He vanished completely into the swirling debris.
“No! Impossible!” Duan Chenfeng roared, eyes bloodshot as he raised his spear.
Yu Minghong seized his arm. “Stop, Brother Duan! Charging in is suicide!”
“Let go! I’ll skewer that monster!” Duan Chenfeng thrashed, killing intention boiling around him.
“Use your eyes! The space is destabilizing—the array’s failing! We must retreat!” Yu Minghong shouted, the sole voice of reason.
Su Yinxue stood frozen, unable to believe her eyes. How could Ye Yun, such a peerless genius, meet his death under the stone giant’s fist? Impossible – this had to be an illusion!
Su Ling stood equally stunned. Her feet seemed rooted as she stared at the swirling dust, oblivious to the stone fragments pelting her body. "Ye Yun’s dead? Ye Yun’s dead?" she mumbled deliriously. Crimson flashes alternated with deep blue in her eyes, while a vague golden mark flickered on her forehead.
"Ling’er! Senior Sister Yinxue! We must flee now!" Yu Minghong suddenly grabbed Su Ling’s arm, urgency sharpening his voice.
The shout snapped both women from their daze. Their eyes met, mirroring identical terror. "Ling’er, move!" Su Yinxue commanded, her higher cultivation allowing quicker recovery. She seized her sister’s wrist.
Yu Minghong blocked Duan Chenfeng’s path, keeping close to the sisters.
"No!" Su Ling wrenched free, bitter smile twisting her lips. "Why return without Ye Yun?"
"Stop this madness!" Su Yinxue barked. "The spatial array destabilizes – our only escape window closes! Would you have us all crushed?"
Her mind reeled. She’d fought Murong Wuhen to protect Ye Yun’s breakthrough to third level Qi refining, convinced the youth would shield them when danger came. Now that supposed guardian lay shattered, his spirit extinguished. As team leader, she must salvage what remained – starting with her sister.
Su Ling stood defiant, golden mark brightening as ash swirled thicker. Had Su Yinxue looked closer, she’d have seen chilling azure overtake her sister’s eyes.
Lightning tore through the dust cloud.
Su Ling blinked – blue fading to normal starlit eyes, golden mark vanishing. The bolt arced down, revealing a pale youth forcing a smile.
"What’s the delay?" Ye Yun’s voice snapped them all alert. "The array quakes!"
"Ye Yun lives!" Duan Chenfeng whooped, anger forgotten.
"Brother Ye!" Yu Minghong grinned.
Su Yinxue gaped. No wounds marred the youth who’d taken the giant’s full blow – only pallor hinted at strain.
Su Ling crashed into Ye Yun’s chest, sobbing. He held her briefly before rumbling footsteps shook the earth.
"Senior Sister Yinxue – get them out. The giant still hunts." Ye Yun pushed Su Ling toward her.
Nodding, Su Yinxue dragged her sister back. "Wait – the Blazing Flame Explosion Ring and Ice Crystal Soul Lock Ring! Their true power requires fusion – fire and water combined multiply strength tenfold!"
"How?" Ye Yun shouted as they retreated.
"Unknown specifics – but elemental union is key!"
Ye Yun summoned both spiritual weapons. Before him, the stone giant emerged through settling dust, each step quaking the earth.
Clashing rings together, Ye Yun grinned fiercely. Fire and ice swirled around his hands.
