Chapter 269: Entering the Array
The mountaintop remained shrouded in a faint mist, the space distorted as if heated by an invisible furnace below. Ye Yun’s group approached the summit cautiously, pausing before the warped space.
Among them, Su Ling and Su Yinxue were the most knowledgeable about spatial arrays, having studied them since childhood to prepare for the Golden Core stage. “Though Father taught us spatial arrays early,” Su Yinxue said quietly, “Ling’er’s talent surpasses mine.”
Su Ling nodded without modesty. “I’ve always had a knack for spatial laws. But even the Heavenly Sword Sect’s teachings are limited. Some secrets are kept solely by the Sect Leader, passed down through generations.”
“True,” Su Yinxue agreed. “But this array doesn’t seem complex. Can you decipher it, Ling’er?”
“It’s weaker than the Hualun Secret Vault’s defenses,” Su Ling observed. “The energy flows predictably. No immediate threat.”
“Then let’s go!” Duan Chenfeng urged, growing impatient.
“Wait,” Ye Yun interrupted. Though Su Ling seemed confident, his instincts warned of hidden dangers. The peak’s spatial array and rumored hundred-zhang spirit beast posed risks. Worse, rival teams and Foundation Establishment-level criminals lurked nearby.
Su Ling frowned. “I’ve checked the array multiple times. It’s safe.”
“Treasures won’t wait forever!” Duan Chenfeng pressed.
Yu Minghong nodded. “We should proceed cautiously.”
“Follow Ye Yun’s lead,” Su Yinxue said calmly, her dress fluttering like a goddess’s robes.
Ye Yun’s voice hardened. “Survival comes first. Our own treasures remain unused—why chase more? Greed blinds. Remember why we’re here: to endure ten days in these mountains.”
His words doused their impulsiveness. Su Ling shuddered. “Something’s wrong… I felt compelled to enter.”
“Same,” Duan Chenfeng muttered. “A voice… calling.”
Yu Minghong paled. “I heard it too.”
Su Yinxue and Ye Yun exchanged knowing looks. Her refined soul and his innate strength had shielded them from the mental pull.
They settled near the distorted space to wait. A day passed uneventfully—no spirit beasts, no enemies. By the fifth day, half their trial period had slipped away.
Suddenly, radiant light erupted from the peak, engulfing them. Colors swirled like a kaleidoscope before vanishing, leaving them stranded atop the mountain.
“How?!” Duan Chenfeng gaped.
Su Yinxue sighed. “The mountains grew tired of our hesitation.”
Su Ling scanned the horizon, bewildered. “The landscape’s changed. Where’s the southeastern plain?”
Every direction now showed identical mountain ranges, subtly shifted in height but otherwise uniform.
“The Heavenly Sword Sect’s ancestors were mighty indeed,” Yu Minghong murmured, awed.
“Yet their legacy fades,” Duan Chenfeng said bitterly.
Ye Yun’s eyes gleamed. If ancient arrays of this scale existed, what other power lay buried in the sect’s Secret Vault? The Ancestor of the Sword Path’s promised treasures might surpass all imagination.
Around them, the copied peaks stood as silent testament to a glory long diminished.
