Chapter 249: Like Real, Like Illusion
“Surprise?”
Su Hao paused, then chuckled. “Yes, you could call it that.”
Ye Yun didn’t answer but watched with eager eyes.
Su Hao offered no explanation and kept walking.
Nestled among green mountains and clear waters stood an opulent hall, a hundred zhang tall, gleaming with gold and jade. Were it not shielded by the peaks, its golden light would blaze across the land.
“What’s this?” Ye Yun asked.
“What do you think?” Su Hao countered with a smile.
Ye Yun frowned. It looked undeniably real—a grand golden hall. Yet this entire space was shaped by a spatial magical array. He studied the structure: dazzling golden walls, a square flanked by jade pillars carved with lifelike dragons and phoenixes, wings spread as if ready to soar.
“An illusion? But I can’t see through it,” Ye Yun muttered.
Su Hao shrugged. “Call it real, and it becomes false. Call it false, and it becomes real.”
“Such a thing exists?” Ye Yun stared.
“The world holds endless wonders.” Su Hao grinned. “This forbidden zone houses a masterful spatial array. To those lacking cultivation or understanding of spatial laws, all appears real. Only by grasping these laws can one pierce the illusion. Here, truth and lies intertwine.”
Ye Yun marveled, “Incredible. The spatial array’s craftsmanship is beyond belief.”
Su Hao nodded. “Spatial laws rank among heaven’s greatest mysteries. Only by mastering them can one condense true qi into a Golden Core. Yet Golden Core stage is merely the beginning. True kings are those who birth a Nascent Soul from their core, reaching the Nascent Soul stage—moving mountains, parting seas, roaming the cosmos with a thought.”
Ye Yun’s eyes narrowed. The Ancestor of the Sword Path had taught him much about cultivation realms, perhaps more than Su Hao knew. But practical details—Foundation Establishment, Golden Core formation—remained unclear. He resolved to seek Su Hao and Elder Seven’s guidance later. The Cleansing Immortal Heart Technique’s brutal demands required proper mentorship.
As they approached the golden hall, its radiance vanished. Before them now stood a structure of pure white jade, crystalline and smooth.
“What changed?” Ye Yun blurted.
Chen Ronghua’s gentle voice answered, “Neither real nor false, it shows what suits the moment.”
“Last time it was red!” Su Ling exclaimed. “From afar today it shone gold, but up close—white jade!”
“Study spatial laws,” Su Hao warned. “Soon you’ll face vast arrays without guides.”
Ye Yun pressed, “Master, are we preparing for a trial?”
“Not yet. Cultivate diligently. All will come in time.”
Passing through the vast square and climbing a thousand steps, they reached towering jade doors. Above hung a plaque:
Hall of Illusion and Reality
A hall neither wholly true nor false.
“Hail the Peak Master!”
As Su Hao crossed the jade threshold, two dozen disciples knelt in unison.
"Everyone, rise," Su Hao nodded and slightly raised his arm.
The twenty-some disciples stood up, finally allowing Ye Yun to see them clearly. These disciples appeared to be in their twenties or thirties, all wearing identical white robes that differed only in the number of purple flowers embroidered on their chests – most had one, some two, and the highest-ranking disciple bore three.
"These are Shadowless Peak’s elite disciples, each having reached the Foundation Establishment stage," Su Hao explained, turning to Ye Yun.
Pointing at Ye Yun, Su Hao announced loudly, "This is Ye Yun, my newly accepted Registered Disciple. I expect he’ll soon join our ranks as one of the top ten disciples."
Ye Yun stepped forward and clasped his fists. "Ye Yun greets all senior brothers and sisters." His sharp eyes noted two female disciples among the white-robed crowd.
The disciples returned the gesture silently. A white-clad disciple stepped forward and bowed slightly. "Peak Master, the senior brothers have completed their preparations and await your arrival."
Su Hao nodded, glancing at Ye Yun with a gentle smile. "Ye Yun, you and Chen Ronghua come with me. Ling’er, stay here and look around."
Su Ling pouted, "Where are you going? I want to come too!" But when she looked up, the three figures had already vanished without leaving any trace of their departure.
Ye Yun felt his body shift as the surrounding space blurred and twisted. Startled, he realized Su Hao’s energy had enveloped both him and Chen Ronghua. Was this the legendary teleportation technique only Golden Core stage cultivators who understood spatial laws could perform?
Yet how could Su Hao, merely at the late Foundation Establishment stage, manage such a feat? The answer came when blue light flashed before them – they hadn’t teleported through personal power, but through a spatial magical array.
Eight azure pillars shot skyward, converging hundreds of zhang above to form an arcane symbol. Below sat eight disciples in pale blue robes embroidered with golden flowers – seven men and one woman, their gazes locked on the celestial pattern.
A glimmer of excitement flashed in Ye Yun’s eyes. These eight, combined with Chen Ronghua and himself, completed Su Hao’s top ten disciples.
"Master, are they practicing the Ten Killing Formation?" Ye Yun whispered.
Approval shone in Su Hao’s eyes. "Though they can’t master it fully, this training builds their coordination. Today’s surprise is letting you experience this formation early – it will greatly aid your future comprehension of spatial laws."
Ye Yun’s eyebrows rose in delight. Previously, Su Hao had insisted he reach Foundation Establishment before participating. This unexpected opportunity to train with senior disciples might provide the breakthrough he needed to balance his true qi and physical cultivation.
"The Ten Killing Formation requires perfect mental synchronization among ten practitioners," Su Hao continued, reading his thoughts. "While it won’t directly raise your cultivation level, experiencing Foundation Establishment power through this formation will bring immense benefits."
Taking a deep breath, Ye Yun bowed deeply. "My gratitude, Master!"
Su Hao waved his hand. "I’ll impart part of the formation’s practice methods now. Join them and sense their cultivation levels."
A beam of light shot from Su Hao’s forehead into Ye Yun’s. Instantly, torrents of information flooded the young disciple’s mind, unfolding like an exploding star.
