Chapter 246: The Finale
One punch shattered the enemy!
Ji Rong stood as a rising star among the younger generation. Over two years under the tutelage of Deng Kaiyuan, Shadowless Peak’s Second Elder, his cultivation level advanced rapidly. This swift progress inflated his youthful arrogance, convincing him few on Shadowless Peak could rival him.
Though rumors claimed Ye Yun once defeated Ming Siyu, Ji Rong dismissed Ming as weak—an inner disciple for years yet still failing to reach the Foundation Establishment stage. Ji Rong boasted he could achieve Foundation Establishment in three years.
Confident this sect competition would showcase his years of hard work, Ji Rong saw himself as a dust-covered pearl ready to shine.
Then he faced Ye Yun.
One punch.
Ye Yun’s single strike crushed Ji Rong’s pride, scattering his confidence like broken fragments in the wind.
Leaning on two disciples, Ji Rong rose unsteadily. His resentment faded into despair as he stared at Ye Yun atop the platform.
He knew that punch could only be withstood by reaching Foundation Establishment. Yet he understood his own progress—still six months to a year away from that breakthrough. Such speed already placed him among Shadowless Peak’s elite.
But Ye Yun’s growth defied reason. Half a year prior, Ye Yun had been at the Third Level of body refinement. Now he stood at the second stage of Qi refining. This pace alone dwarfed most disciples.
More terrifying—Ye Yun’s Qi refining attacks rivaled early Foundation Establishment strikes. Such power lay beyond Ji Rong’s understanding.
Ye Yun gazed at another platform where two disciples still fought. A soft sigh escaped him. Their strength matched Ji Rong’s at best. True challenges would come during the sect competition. He almost wished the event didn’t separate youth and adult groups.
The match soon ended, both combatants honoring their agreement to avoid serious harm.
"The final between Ye Yun and Mu Chengping begins after resting for the time an incense stick burns," declared the bored middle-aged overseer. He’d predicted Ye Yun’s victory—no surprise here.
Elder Tai shuffled forward, appearing ready to collapse. "No wonder you became the Peak Master’s Registered Disciple. Not bad, young fellow."
Ye Yun bowed. Though unfamiliar with Elder Tai, he knew the elder’s status rivaled even Peak Master Su Hao’s.
"Good," Elder Tai squinted. "Shadowless Peak might actually win the youth group championship. Oh—the Peak Master says securing the youth title earns you a team competition spot."
The crowd erupted.
Disciples buzzed with shock and envy.
"Elder Tai?" Ye Yun blinked. Team slots always went to Foundation Establishment experts under thirty. Even Su Hao’s top ten disciples outclassed him. Yang Hualong of Junzi Hall had already reached Foundation Establishment.
"Why Ye Yun? Is this favoritism?"
"Ye Yun’s strong, but he can’t compare to Foundation Establishment seniors!"
"The Peak Master’s biased! Giving opportunities to his own disciple!"
"Team selections should choose our strongest! Yang Hualong from Junzi Hall! Long Kun from Dragon Hall! The Heavenly Secrets Group’s elusive leader! All more qualified!"
"Yang Hualong achieved Foundation Establishment four months back! Long Kun broke through days ago! Even the mysterious Xu Huaying’s at least at Qi refining’s peak!"
"Letting Ye Yun join the team? Absurd nepotism!"
"Well said! They should compete, and the winner will represent our sect in the team matches."
The disciples below erupted in chatter, nearly all showing disdain for Ye Yun, some even openly resentful.
Elder Tai hovered midair silently until the murmurs subsided. His eyes snapped open with sudden intensity.
"You youngsters never stop squawking! Can’t even let an old man finish speaking. Lucky for you I’ve mellowed with age, or I’d tan your hides proper." His calm voice carried electric authority. "This year’s team competition splits into adult and youth groups. The adult group will be veteran inner disciples led by Duanmu Longtai. The youth group will have juniors under five years’ experience – Ye Yun leads them."
Two groups?
Disciples exchanged glances, their rebellious energy draining. They knew objections were futile anyway – most had just been shouting along with the crowd.
"Why Brother Ye instead of Yang Hualong?" shouted a Junzi Hall disciple.
"Exactly! Senior Brother Yang achieved Foundation Establishment! He should lead!"
"This is unjust! Let them fight for leadership!"
Elder Tai’s face hardened. A single cold snort reverberated through every disciple’s skull, making eardrums throb.
"Need I explain myself?" His blade-like gaze swept the crowd, murderous intent thickening the air.
Silence descended instantly. Nobody dared breathe wrong. Elder Tai’s kindness didn’t mean weakness – he could slaughter them all without reprimand. Untrained talents meant nothing to the sect.
"Enough. Final lists come later." Elder Tai turned to leave, then paused. "Oh, Ye Yun? Win one more match to qualify."
Ye Yun bowed in surprise as the elder vanished between heartbeats.
Turning to his final opponent, Ye Yun raised clasped hands. The other disciple bounded forward.
"I yield! Brother Ye outclasses me completely." Mu Chengping stood smiling, hands folded.
Ye Yun blinked. After Ji Rong’s earlier taunts, he’d expected another brawl. This surrender caught him off guard.
"Mu Chengping, confirm your concession." The platform’s overseer frowned.
"Uncle Jin, my cultivation falls short. This surrender’s genuine." Mu Chengping bowed deeply.
"Very well. Ye Yun claims youth group victory with two thousand top-grade spirit stones. Disperse."
The youth group’s shabby treatment continued. While common disciples coveted such rewards, Ye Yun barely acknowledged the sum.
Crowds drifted away, initial protests forgotten. Why fuss over others’ business? Mob shouting was safe enough.
Duan Chenfeng and Su Ling approached as Ye Yun descended the platform.
"Where’d you vanish earlier?" Ye Yun asked the girl.
Su Ling’s eyes crinkled mischievously. "We visited Father. He’s got a surprise for you."
"What surprise?"
"Tell you? Then it’s not a surprise! Go see him."
Ye Yun turned to Duan Chenfeng. "Check when Junior Yu exits seclusion. Let’s form our group after – snatch Contribution Points from Junzi Hall."
Duan Chenfeng’s eyes lit up. After two months learning Contribution Points’ value – and getting nothing from the Black and White Elders – this plan thrilled him.
"On it!" He dashed away.
