Chapter 214: The Descent of Divine Thunder
Ye Yun’s eyes remained utterly calm, devoid of emotion, as if he’d entered an extraordinary state.
The Purple Shadow Sword in his hand trembled faintly, its blade blurring into rippling waves. Had the Ancestor of the Sword Path within the Soul Turning Tower witnessed this, his jaw would have dropped—Ye Yun was executing the third form of the Thundercloud Lightning Sword: Divine Thunder Annihilation.
True Divine Thunder Annihilation required splitting one’s Thunder Spirit Qi into 1,024 strands within an instant. These strands must perfectly intertwine yet remain distinct, allowing the summoning of heavenly thunder to obliterate enemies.
Dividing Thunder Spirit Qi into 1,024 parts wasn’t inherently difficult with practice. The true challenge lay in completing this division within a single breath—the span of a blink. To achieve this while maintaining absolute separation between strands during battle’s chaos seemed impossible.
This extreme difficulty meant few had mastered the technique since its creation. After the Heavenly Sword Sect elder’s disappearance, the practice methods for this third form weren’t entirely lost. But disciples possessing both Thunder Spirit Qi and the required unshakable focus became rarer than phoenix feathers. Over generations, the true method faded until later sect members could only reconstruct crude imitations through deduction, preserving the form but losing the essence.
Ye Yun’s Purple Shadow Sword kept vibrating with faint thunderclaps. Purple lightning arced as he launched an attack at the Water Cloud Mandala Beast—not Divine Thunder Annihilation, but…
"Thunderous Strike!"
His low shout accompanied exploding lightning that fractured into countless electrified threads, engulfing the beast.
The mutated creature’s eyes fired twin projectiles—an ice-water arrow and flaming bolt. Though merging midair, their elements refused true fusion, blue and red remaining starkly separate.
Shriiik!
The elemental arrows tore through space. The encroaching lightning web faltered, disintegrating inches before impact like moths fleeing flame.
Skyfireworks erupted—crackling luminescence fading to reveal the undiminished elemental arrows now targeting Ye Yun. Though weakened, their remaining power could cripple his cultivation if they struck.
Yet Ye Yun stood motionless, eyes tranquil pools.
"Ye Yun! Move!" Su Ling’s scream pierced the water barrier, her worry palpable even through the liquid veil.
The young swordsman tilted his head slightly… and smiled.
The Purple Shadow Sword rose humming, vibrations intensifying. Close observation would reveal purple auras coiling around the blade with each oscillation—hundreds of light-shadows swirling in non-colliding orbits, enveloping the sword in ethereal radiance.
The fire-ice arrow closed to half a yard. Ye Yun’s face remained serene.
The circling light-shadows suddenly stilled, orbiting the sword at blinding speeds.
BOOOOM!
Thunder detonated within the sealed stone chamber. A storm cloud manifested above, electric snakes writhing in its depths.
Ye Yun’s smile widened as he gently pushed the blade forward.
"Divine Thunder Annihilation."
Purple light erupted from the Purple Shadow Sword like dawn breaking stormclouds.
At the same time, a lightning bolt as thick as a child’s arm shot down from the storm cloud. It merged with the one thousand and twenty-four purple light shadows, forming a dazzling purple thunderbolt that struck the Water Cloud Mandala Beast fiercely.
In that moment, fear flashed in the beast’s eyes, turning into overwhelming terror before ending in utter despair.
Boom!
The purple thunderbolt struck the beast’s head first. A brilliant flash of purple lightning filled the stone chamber with blinding light.
Within the purple glow, the long arrow forged from Ice and Fire touched Ye Yun’s chest, burning a small hole in his clothes.
But the arrow glowing with icy blue and fiery red light couldn’t move forward any further. It dissolved into shimmering light before Ye Yun, vanishing into the spread of purple radiance.
When the deafening thunder faded, the purple lightning finally dissipated. The Water Cloud Mandala Beast lay charred black in the right-center of the chamber, completely lifeless.
Behind the water screen, Su Ling stood frozen. She could hardly believe her eyes – the deafening thunderclap had nearly knocked her off her feet. Yet when the lightning cleared, it wasn’t Ye Yun but the spirit beast lying defeated.
Crack!
The water screen before Su Ling shattered suddenly, collapsing into a puddle that spread across the stone floor.
With a gasp, Su Ling leaped to Ye Yun’s side.
"Ye Yun! Are you hurt? Don’t scare me like that!" She clutched his arm tightly, her face pale.
Ye Yun exhaled slowly and turned with a smile. Ruffling her hair playfully, he said, "If I’d been slower by half a breath, that beast’s attack would’ve pierced my heart. Good thing I was faster."
Su Ling threw her arms around him, bursting into tears.
"You… you idiot! Do you know how terrified I was?"
Ye Yun held the crying girl quietly, patting her back.
When her sobs subsided, Su Ling looked up with tear-stained cheeks and glared at him.
"That beast’s dead now, right? Not moving at all." Ye Yun grinned.
Su Ling’s expression turned worried. "But it guarded Fire Dragon Cave’s unusual flowers and herbs. Killing it might bring trouble."
"What trouble? You’re the Peak Master’s daughter, and he’s my Master. Anyway…" Ye Yun squinted at the beast’s corpse. "First let’s take its spiritual core and harvest the herbs. Without protection, someone bad might steal them."
Su Ling snorted. "This is Fire Dragon Cave’s most secret forbidden area. The only ‘bad person’ here is you!"
Ye Yun adopted a solemn face. "If taking this core and herbs makes me bad, then I’ll gladly be bad."
With a laugh, he swung the Purple Shadow Sword, splitting the beast in two. A flick of his blade shattered its skull, releasing a pale blue core streaked with crimson. Ye Yun swiftly stored it in his Thunder Sound Metamorphosis ring.
"Stop!" Su Ling rushed over. "Don’t just hack the herbs! You’ll ruin their effects of pills!"
"Fine, you direct me." Ye Yun spread his hands. "When Master punishes us, we’ll share the blame."
Su Ling stomped her foot. "I’ll tell Daddy you did everything!"
Chuckling, Ye Yun yanked up a plant with pink roots and blue leaves, tossing it into his ring. "True enough. You’re just watching."
He harvested five more before Su Ling grabbed his arm. "Some don’t need uprooting! With spiritual energy and proper soil, they’ll regrow!"
Ye Yun paused. "Then hurry and point them out! Let’s finish before someone comes."
Pouting, Su Ling supervised while complaining, "Now you worry? Wait till we face my father!"
Still gathering plants, Ye Yun replied, "I’ll say the beast attacked first. I killed it in self-defense, then took these wild-growing herbs for our sect before others stole them."
Su Ling giggled despite herself. "Shameless! Let’s see you say that to his face!"
Working together, they collected every last unusual flower and herb, leaving nothing behind.
