Chapter 211: Meeting Su Ling Again
Su Ling never expected to see Ye Yun in the Fire Dragon Cave. After her earlier anger, she felt an indescribable joy.
Ye Yun looked at the girl in the green dress and smiled, “You silly girl, practicing without even wearing clothes? What would happen if someone came in?”
Su Ling’s face turned slightly red as she rolled her eyes at him. “Do you think everyone is like you? Would anyone dare to rush in after I said not to? By the way, how did you come to the Fire Dragon Cave?”
“Oh, I heard from Aunt Xuan that you were sent here for training…” Ye Yun replied with a smile.
Before he could finish, Su Ling pulled his arm eagerly. “So you came to find me?”
Ye Yun squinted and laughed. “I wasn’t that bored. Aunt Xuan said you had a protective artifact, so I wasn’t worried. I became an inner disciple and needed to complete a task, so I decided to pick the Heavenly Convergence Herb here.”
Su Ling pouted, disappointment flashing across her face. “So you didn’t come for me? A ninth-level task? Are you insane?”
Her initial sulkiness vanished as she stared at him in shock.
“Yes, the ninth-level task gives a hundred Contribution Points,” Ye Yun answered casually.
Su Ling’s eyes blazed. “You know how dangerous ninth-level tasks are! Only two people completed them in the past five hundred years!”
Ye Yun patted her head. “It’s just harder, not impossible. Those two succeeded, didn’t they?”
“Those two were freaks! Murong Wuqing and Chen Tianyun—once-in-a-millennium geniuses!” Su Ling huffed, hands on her hips. “They’re the ones most likely to reach the Golden Core stage, not even my father!”
Ye Yun tilted his head. “If they could do it, why doubt me?”
Su Ling studied him silently before gasping. “You’ve reached the second stage of Qi refining already?”
“You’re at the fourth level. You’re faster,” Ye Yun said, tousling her hair. “Join me to find the herb, then let’s leave.”
Su Ling shook her head. “I can’t abandon my trial. Elder Shi would use it to attack my father.”
A cold glint flashed in Ye Yun’s eyes. “Elder Shi again? If I reach the Foundation Establishment stage, I’ll make him understand strength matters more than schemes.”
Su Ling gripped his arm urgently. “Don’t! He’s at the late Foundation Establishment stage, and the Supreme Elder backing him might be at the Golden Core stage!”
“Golden Core?” Ye Yun scoffed. “True cultivators don’t wallow in politics. Such a Supreme Elder is worthless.”
Su Ling glanced nervously down the passage and sighed.
Ye Yun’s heart ached. The once-playful girl now carried burdens far beyond her years.
“Come. You know this cave well. Help me find the herb.” He grabbed her hand and strode out.
Su Ling hesitated but let herself be led.
Spotting the charred ancient tree, she gasped. “Who burned the Sen Luo Nan? Its fruits nourish the soul!”
Ye Yun shrugged. “True fire erupted when I broke through a wall. Nearly got roasted.”
“True fire? It was just warm when I passed through!”
“Luck saved me. Now, where’s the herb?”
Su Ling bit her lip. “It’s guarded by spirit beasts. Give up the task. I’ll lend you Contribution Points.”
“No.” Ye Yun’s voice hardened. “Elder Seven and your father accepted me as their disciple. Failing would shame them.”
Su Ling gaped. “Elder Seven? But he’s always confused!”
“Keep it secret.” Ye Yun lowered his voice. “At Shadowless Peak, I’m only your father’s registered disciple.”
Su Ling numbly nodded.
Ye Yun smiled at the cave ahead. “As the Peak Master’s disciple, I must finish this. Let’s go, Ling’er.”
Su Ling stared at his retreating back, momentarily spellbound.
