Chapter 2: Fearless
A cold light flashed as a freezing chill spread through the air, dropping the temperature within dozens of meters.
Ye Yun took a deep breath and quietly retreated half a step.
"Is heaven truly determined to end me?"
For three years, Ye Yun had practiced only a basic cultivation technique and some low-grade combat skills. Among servant disciples, his talent stood out—advancing one level each year until reaching the third level of body refinement, the Marrow Cleansing stage. This very progress likely fueled Liu Daolie’s resentment.
The body refinement stage consisted of seven levels:

7th level – Comprehending Qi (converting absorbed energy into true qi)
The gap between levels was vast. Though Liu Daolie possessed mediocre talent and only reached the fourth layer, defeating Ye Yun would still be effortless for him.
Against one Ice Soul Snow Snake (equivalent to third-level strength), Ye Yun might stand a chance. But facing two—a male and female pair—only someone of Liu Daolie’s cultivation level could survive.
The snakes didn’t attack immediately. Their blue-glowing eyes coldly observed Ye Yun instead.
Ye Yun tried glancing toward the exit, but dim light obscured his path.
"What now? Will I die here?" True desperation chilled his entire body as he faced the serpents.
The standoff lasted several breaths.
The larger male snake began advancing, sensing Ye Yun’s limited power.
Retreating meant instant attack. One bite would trigger Ice Sealing, letting frost poison reach his heart in an instant. Worse, any movement might provoke the watching female snake.
Suddenly the male snake closed within five meters, icy fangs and crimson tongue gleaming ominously.
Ye Yun’s brow furrowed. He regretted entering the second layer—too dangerous for servant disciples.
Helpless, he retreated another half-step.
The three-meter-long male snake lunged, becoming a white blur mid-air.
Ye Yun twisted left, evading while thrusting a frost-edged dagger at the snake’s vulnerable spot. Three years of servitude had dulled his fierceness, but accumulated rage now erupted in this life-and-death moment.
Clang!
The lightning-fast strike produced metallic ringing—the dagger failed to pierce even the scales.
"Bad move!"
Ye Yun abandoned the dagger and leaped back.
Crack!
The female snake’s tongue speared the weapon, shattering the iron blade.
Before Ye Yun landed, the male snake exhaled blue frost, plunging the area into bitter cold.
At the same time, the female snake lunged at him.
Faced with the innate Ice Soul attack on one side and close combat on the other, Ye Yun couldn’t evade both assaults simultaneously.
In that instant, death seemed inevitable.
A flicker of despair flashed through Ye Yun’s eyes before being consumed by raw ferocity. Surging murderous intent erupted from his core.
Instead of retreating, he charged forward. Dodging the male snake’s Ice Soul attack, he grabbed the female snake’s body and drove his fist deep into its gaping maw – the source of the Ice Soul Snow Snake’s power, yet also its most vulnerable point.
"If you want my life, I’ll take yours first!"
Bloodshot eyes blazed with madness, his killing intent so thick it seemed to solidify in the air.
Ignoring both pain and the looming male snake, Ye Yun focused solely on the white-scaled female serpent before him.
Fist after iron fist pounded into the creature’s mouth.
The snake’s icy scales meant nothing to him now. He burned like a living furnace, every shred of spiritual power fueling his brutal strikes against the serpent’s head and throat.
The female snake screeched pitifully, its jaws now permanently wrenched open by pulverized flesh and shattered bone.

An Ice Soul bolt pierced Ye Yun’s back.
He barely flinched. Still gripping the snake’s head, his right fist kept hammering.
"Die!"
Roaring like a blood-mad demon, Ye Yun seized the serpent’s jaws and ripped.
Crraack!
The head tore open down to the belly.
The dying snake’s thrashing tail lashed Ye Yun’s bloody flesh, but he tossed the mangled head aside and whirled to face the male.
The enraged male snake coiled around him, fanged maw snapping at his skull.
"Come then!"
Ye Yun’s dragon-like punch smashed the serpent’s head.
But the male’s spiritual power dwarfed its mate’s. With Ye Yun’s energy nearly spent, the blow barely staggered the beast.
Snap!
Jaws clamped his arm. Excruciating cold surged through torn flesh as freezing venom spread through his meridians. Ice flowers bloomed across his freezing skin.
The constricting coils tightened. Bones creaked. Frost coated the ground in a ten-meter circle.
"Is this death?"
His vision dimmed. The cold ate his vitality. Three years flashed before him – rising from servant disciple through Liu Daolie’s abuse, enduring humiliation for cultivation dreams now ending in Demonic Beast Valley…
"No! I refuse!"
His final shout echoed as black-white light split the sky.
Boom!
The radiant beam struck his crown. Unimaginable power flooded his being.
Visions erupted – primordial chaos where black and white figures strode through mountain-shearing gales. A golden tide of celestial soldiers crashed toward them, their aura crushing yet met with fearless defiance.
As Ye Yun’s frozen heart jolted, the duo unleashed a black-white beam transcending time itself.
Consciousness vanished.
When his eyes snapped open hours later, a black-white beam shot from his gaze, piercing Demonic Beast Valley’s gloom to form a towering pillar scraping the heavens.
A thousand miles away on Heavenly Sword Sect’s back mountain, a gray-robed elder stared through the mists.
"Such power… here?"
