Chapter 195: Seeking a Master
In the sky, the shadow of a white battle blade was struck by teal light, instantly vanishing.
Elder Shi and the others froze. This belonged to one of the Heavenly Sword Sect’s three strongest Supreme Elders—even the Sect Leader and elders like Elder Shi addressed him as Martial Uncle.
The seal of Blade Elder held immense authority. Even the Sect Leader showed respect upon encountering it, let alone others.
Yet this seal had been pierced by a wisp of teal light, reduced to nothing.
"Who dares?!" Elder Shi nearly couldn’t believe his eyes. Who in the sect would dare destroy Blade Elder’s seal?
"Hmph! I should be asking—who gave Dao Zhengrong the right to meddle in sect affairs?" A figure shot over from afar. Before his arrival, the scent of medicinal wine drifted through the air.
The figure landed—Elder Seven in ragged clothes stood before Ye Yun. He swept a cold glance over Elder Shi, then raised a wine jar with his left hand and drank deeply.
"Elder Seven! It’s you!" Ye Yun exclaimed, overjoyed.
"Senior Brother Seven? Why are you here?" Su Hao stepped forward in surprise.
Elder Zi’s face brightened. He leaped to Elder Seven’s side.
"Seventh Junior Brother! So you also support Ye Yun?"
Elder Shi’s expression darkened, his earlier fury replaced by gloom.
"Shi Chengyue. Scram." Elder Seven wiped wine from his lips, voice dripping with mockery.
Elder Shi’s cheek twitched. "Old Seven, you overstep. Instead of guarding the spirit fields, you cause trouble at Tian Shen Peak?"
"What’s a dog like you barking for? Leave now or I’ll knock your teeth out." Elder Seven took another swig, dismissing him.
Elder Shi trembled with rage. As a senior elder assisting the Sect Leader, none dared speak to him this way—even the Sect Leader treated him courteously.
But against Elder Seven, he was powerless. Despite his erratic behavior, Elder Seven’s cultivation surpassed his own—having reached the Seventh Level of Foundation Establishment, he stood among the sect’s few candidates likely to breakthrough to the Golden Core stage.
If Elder Seven attacked, ten Elder Shis couldn’t withstand him.
"You’ll regret this, Old Seven." Elder Shi turned and fled.
Nearby, Ouyang Wentian’s lips twitched. He forced himself forward.
"Senior Brother Seven… long time no see."
Elder Seven ignored him, waving dismissively. Ouyang Wentian retreated in humiliation.
Murong Wuqing shot Elder Seven a cold glare before leaving without a word.
"Seventh Junior Brother. What brings you?"
The Sect Leader finally spoke after the others departed.
"Senior Brother Seven! I haven’t visited your spirit fields for fear of disturbing you. Did you come for Ye Yun?" Jing Ru Shui approached with swaying hips, smiling.
"Fetch me these materials." Elder Seven flicked a list toward her.
Jing Ru Shui caught it effortlessly. "Lan Yue Peak will provide whatever you need."
Elder Seven eyed her. "Stuck at the Moonlight Art’s bottleneck?"
Her smile widened eagerly.
"Cycle it ten times forward, three times reversed. Do this daily for a month." Elder Seven spoke gently before turning away.
“Thank you, Senior Brother Seven,” Jing Ru Shui exclaimed joyfully, bowing gracefully.
Yu Guangyuan, the Leader of Tian Zhu Peak, gave a stiff greeting before retreating silently.
“Junior Brother Yu, your cold nature stems from practicing the Falling Star Technique, but this isn’t the true path of cultivation. Being more approachable might lead to unexpected outcomes,” Elder Seven said gently, his gaze sweeping over him.
“Senior Brother Seven, repeating words from three years ago is tedious,” Yu Guangyuan replied coldly, clearly unwilling to engage further.
Elder Seven ignored him and turned to the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Sword Sect, raising his wine jar. “Greetings, Sect Leader.”
“We’re brothers in the sect, Junior Brother Seven. Formalities are unnecessary,” the Sect Leader replied with a smile.
Elder Seven nodded and faced Su Hao. “Junior Brother Su, this boy isn’t suited for you. Your temperament would stifle Ye Yun’s potential.”
“But…” Su Hao stammered, caught off guard.
“However, the Thunder Spirit Qi within him completes your Ten Killing Formation. Let him follow me. Teach him the formation, and he’ll assist you when needed,” Elder Seven added, glancing at Ye Yun.
“What?”
Gasps echoed as everyone stared at Elder Seven in disbelief.
“Senior Brother Seven, you’re taking Ye Yun as your disciple?” Su Hao blurted.
“Junior Brother Seven, you’ve always refused disciples!” the Sect Leader exclaimed.
Elder Seven frowned. “Must I remain disciple-less while you all collect students?”
“Such luck! How does Ye Yun deserve this honor?” Jing Ru Shui cried, covering her mouth.
“Fortune favors him,” Yu Guangyuan remarked, eyebrows raised.
“Kneel, Ye Yun!” Su Hao barked, snapping out of his daze.
Ye Yun knelt, bewildered. Moments ago, he’d nearly become Su Hao’s disciple amidst tension with Elder Shi. Now Elder Seven claimed him.
“Disciple Ye Yun pays respects to Master.”
Elder Seven smiled. “Rise. My lineage needs no formalities. Call me ‘Old Man’ if you wish.”
“Master,” Ye Yun said firmly, recalling the swordplay Ice Sealing a Thousand Lakes taught in the spirit fields. Their bond had begun long before this ceremony.
“Congratulations, Junior Brother!” The Sect Leader laughed.
“Should we announce this to the sect?” Jing Ru Shui suggested playfully.
“Senior Brother Seven dislikes attention,” Su Hao interjected, hiding his disappointment. Though Ye Yun wasn’t his disciple, learning under Elder Seven—whose Dao comprehension surpassed even the Sect Leader’s—guaranteed greatness.
“Keep this quiet,” Elder Seven ordered. “Ye Yun remains an inner disciple of Shadowless Peak. Never flaunt our relationship. Solve your own problems. Only visit the spirit fields for cultivation questions.”
“Understood,” Ye Yun replied. The arrangement suited him—Elder Seven’s eccentricity mirrored his own need to conceal the Heart of Immortals and Demons.
“Enough. Ye Yun comes with me for three days’ training.” Grabbing Ye Yun, Elder Seven vanished from Tian Shen Peak in a blur.
The Sect Leader shook his head fondly as others exchanged glances.
“I’ll send a female disciple to befriend our rising star,” Jing Ru Shui mused.
“Don’t provoke Junior Brother Seven,” the Sect Leader warned, amused.
“Master Sword Elder will learn of this,” Su Hao fretted.
“Since when does Senior Brother Seven fear anyone?” the Sect Leader countered.
“True. His sealed cultivation proves that,” Su Hao conceded. “Had he not been restrained twenty years ago, our sect might’ve reached the Great Qin Empire’s notice.”
“The old agreement looms,” the Sect Leader sighed. “Twenty years end soon.”
A heavy silence fell as all nodded gravely.
