Chapter 190: The Heavenly Sword Issues Orders
Ye Yun froze, as did the two beside him. Every disciple stood dumbfounded.
What cultivation level did the Two Elders in Black and White hold? These celestial realm masters who had survived the great tribulation stood equal to Peak Master Su Hao of Shadowless Peak. Their seniority surpassed even the Hall Masters of the Eight Great Halls, who addressed them as martial uncles. Even Su Hao ranked a generation below them.
By logic, the elders should have picked either the strongest disciples or the most gifted youths. Yet they chose Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong—neither young nor advanced in cultivation. Duan Chenfeng lingered at the second stage of Qi refining, while Yu Minghong barely reached the first stage.
Why would the elders pick them? What made these two special? Was there foul play?
Confusion gripped every disciple. Even Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong stared in shock, struggling to believe their fortune.
"Kneel before your masters," Ye Yun urged under his breath.
The two jolted awake, rushing forward to kneel on one knee.
"Disciple Duan Chenfeng greets Master!"
"Disciple Yu Minghong greets Master!"
The Two Elders exchanged amused glances. "Rise. Stand aside. After the ceremony, you’ll come with us."
"Yes!"
Their voices quivered with disbelief and joy.
"Elders, why choose these two?" Luo Tiancheng frowned, his sharp eyes failing to see their worth.
"Truly unexpected," Lie Xingyun muttered, equally baffled.
Ling Qingyun tilted her head. "Have we overlooked some hidden talent?"
Black Cloudzi chuckled. "Your observation falters. Though at early Qi refining stages, their true strength rivals the third or fourth layers. Duan Chenfeng’s fierce true qi suits my Heaven-Peering Divine Art. Yu Minghong’s enduring energy makes him perfect for Elder Bai’s teachings."
The Hall Masters squinted at the pair but saw nothing extraordinary.
"After surviving the great tribulation yourselves, you’ll understand," Black Cloudzi waved dismissively. "Another disciple holds greater promise—already claimed by your Peak Master."
Ling Qingyun leaned forward. "Who?"
"Who else?" Luo Tiancheng cut in. "Only Peak Master Su Hao could make the elders yield."
"Which disciple?" Lie Xingyun pressed.
The elders smiled. "Let the Peak Master explain."
All eyes turned to Su Hao as he rose from his seat. His calm voice carried across the hall: "Ye Yun. Will you refuse me again?"
Ye Yun?
Gasps erupted. Tian Zhu Peak disciples recalled Murong Wuhen’s rumor—Ye Yun rejecting Su Hao’s offer. Now confirmed, their shock redoubled. What made this first-stage Qi refining youth worthy of such attention?
Ye Yun stepped forward under countless stares—envious, jealous, disbelieving.
Chen Yang wiped cold sweat. Elder Mu had secretly ordered him to harass Ye Yun, dismissing him as a mere Registered Disciple. But now…
However, Chen Yang never imagined that Ye Yun would catch the attention of Su Hao himself. From the Shadowless Peak Master’s words, it seemed Ye Yun had previously rejected his recruitment offer.
The Shadowless Peak Master only had nine core disciples. Rumors said he’d been searching for years to complete his top ten disciples. Who could’ve guessed the final member would emerge from Chen Yang’s own team?
Cold sweat dripped down Chen Yang’s back. He felt overwhelming relief for ignoring Elder Mu’s suggestion to suppress Ye Yun. Had he acted otherwise, he might’ve met his end without knowing why.
"Elder Mu, you’ll pay for this treachery," Chen Yang seethed inwardly.
Ye Yun gazed up at the platform where Su Hao now stood at the railing. The youth clasped his hands respectfully.
"Greetings, Peak Master. We meet again."
"Indeed." Su Hao’s smile held warmth. "Last time you refused my offer to become my disciple. Has your answer changed?" He added casually, "Su Ling pesters me daily to see you. Your Aunt Shui also asks about you – come visit them with me later."
The crowd gasped collectively. Not only had Ye Yun rejected the Peak Master’s offer, but he was clearly intimate with Su Ling and even called the Peak Master’s wife "Aunt".
Chen Yang gaped at Ye Yun, all hostile intentions evaporated. His rage now focused entirely on Elder Mu’s deception.
"Su Ling must be under house arrest," Ye Yun replied calmly. "Otherwise she’d have stormed Tian Zhu Peak already. I’ll gladly visit Aunt Shui."
The eight Hall Masters exchanged incredulous looks. How could this first-level Qi Refining youth interest their Peak Master? His cultivation seemed pitifully weak.
"Did you confront Murong Wuhen?" Su Hao inquired.
Ye Yun nodded. "An Absolute Sword Peak disciple interfering with Shadowless Peak’s inner disciple assessment? I couldn’t tolerate such disrespect."
"The result?"
"We exchanged moves without conclusion."
The air filled with sharp inhalations. While most inner disciples didn’t recognize Murong Wuhen’s name, the Hall Masters and Black-White Elders knew better.
Though Murong Wuhen was fifth-level Qi Refining (possibly sixth now), his true strength rivaled first-level Foundation Establishment experts. Equipped with techniques from his brother Murong Wuqing and a top-grade spiritual weapon, he stood as the strongest beneath Foundation Establishment.
Yet Ye Yun claimed to hold his own against this prodigy? If a first-level Qi Refining cultivator could match seventh-level opponents, his talent defied heaven itself!
All jealousy vanished from the crowd’s eyes, replaced by awed respect. A new star burned bright in the Heavenly Sword Sect’s sky.
"My judgment proves sound," Su Hao smiled. "Your decision?"
As Ye Yun opened his mouth to answer, white light flashed through Cloud Hall. A white-clad disciple materialized, clutching a scroll.
"Peak Master! Guardian Elders!" The newcomer bowed hastily. "Heavenly Sword decree! You must halt the ceremony and bring Ye Yun to the divine hall immediately!"
Black Cloudzi’s face darkened as he snatched the scroll. After scanning it, both he and Bai Songzi snorted coldly.
Su Hao calmly took the message. "Interesting. You’ve drawn attention from the other three Peak Masters and our sect’s higher-ups. Prepare to visit the divine hall." With a flick of his wrist, the scroll dissolved into golden sparks.
Though confused, Ye Yun showed no fear. He bowed smoothly.
"As you command."
