Chapter 146: Unexpected Breakthrough

The medicinal solution blended from over a dozen spirit herbs wasn’t recorded in the Cleansing Immortal Heart Technique, but rather a restorative formula meticulously prepared by Hualun in her past.

As a perfected Golden Core stage cultivator, Hualun’s insights were profound. Her potion recipes naturally ranked among the highest tier, proving exceptionally potent for recuperation after physical cultivation.

The powdered herbs dissolved into clear water, transforming the liquid in the wooden tub from transparent to pitch-black as bubbles surged upward.

Ye Yun gave a faint smile and settled into a cross-legged position.

The Cleansing Immortal Heart Technique activated. Designed for Qi refining stage disciples, its internal cultivation focused on condensing true qi to purify and enhance it, while the external methods tempered the physical body.

Since Ye Yun hadn’t yet entered the Qi refining stage, the internal methods held no effect. Yet he remained unworried—among Tian Zhu Peak’s outer disciples, few below the fourth level of Qi refining could rival him, save for the elusive purple robe disciples.

He preferred concealing his spiritual weapons, particularly the Nine Hells Spirit Settling Mirror, Fire Flame Explosive Cloud, and Ice Spirit Soul Lock—all supreme medium-grade spiritual weapons. The Purple Shadow Sword alone couldn’t remain hidden, as unleashing the Thundercloud Lightning Sword’s power demanded its presence.

With his current strength, he feared no opponent below the fourth level of Qi refining. Should he achieve the Diamond Body through further physical refinement, attacks from weaker cultivators would barely affect him. With mere fists and the Purple Shadow Sword, securing a top thirty rank seemed assured.

As the external method of the Cleansing Immortal Heart Technique circulated, his spiritual power remained calm. Yet Ye Yun distinctly sensed minute transformations in his muscles, meridians, bones, and blood.

Strangely, this process brought no agony—only warmth and faint itching, oddly pleasurable.

“This technique defies belief,” Ye Yun marveled inwardly. “Body refinement feels soothing rather than painful. With ample resources, this might be the ultimate dual cultivation method.” He’d braced for torment, only to encounter unexpected comfort.

The warmth enveloped him like a blanket, nearly lulling him to sleep.

At sleep’s threshold, the tingling vanished abruptly. Muscles ballooned and shredded into strands. Blood thickened tenfold under phantom flames. Bones compressed violently before exploding outward—a cycle repeating endlessly.

Each cycle unleashed soul-piercing agony. Though tempered repeatedly by the Heart of Immortals and Demons and the purple light shadow’s trials, this pain surpassed even a Qi refining disciple’s legendary endurance.

Consciousness frayed. Now he understood why none mastered this technique through centuries—who’d endure such torment without guaranteed results?

“Persist!” Ye Yun roared, veins bulging crimson. He anchored his crumbling awareness, refusing surrender.

A leaf in a storm, battered yet unbroken. Each second stretched into years. What felt like decades passed before the tempest subsided into calm.

The receding pain left him drenched in viscous filth—impurities he’d thought long expelled. Stripping his soiled garments, he sank into the herb-infused tub.

Hualun’s formula worked swiftly where natural healing required ten days. Medicinal energies seeped through pores, mending torn flesh and strengthening organs.

Leaning back, Ye Yun monitored his recovery—meridians broadening, bones crystallizing, muscles knitting stronger. Laughter escaped him as ant footsteps echoed clearly from the Small Courtyard, walls now transparent to his enhanced vision.

This was the power of the body-refining potion made by a Golden Core stage cultivator at peak mastery.

Ye Yun felt his entire body become incredibly dense and firm. He realized that whenever his mystical power circulated, not a single weakness remained in his form – like unyielding iron, solid as diamond.

The first layer of external cultivation from the Cleansing Immortal Heart Technique: Diamond Body!

After a momentary pause, Ye Yun understood this was the Diamond Body’s manifestation. Delight flooded him – he’d only hoped to strengthen his physique for tomorrow’s trial, never expecting to break through the technique’s first layer after brushing against life and death itself.

The Diamond Body could endure any strike from cultivators below the fourth level of Qi refining stage. Though not infinitely durable, resisting even one or two attacks could overturn any battle. Imagine an opponent’s face when their killer blow lands without effect!

That instant of confusion allows multiple counterattacks to crush them. Absolute defense meant invincibility even without victory.

The murky liquid in the wooden barrel gradually cleared as Ye Yun absorbed every bit of medicinal power. When the water turned transparent again, he rose feeling surging strength – his body refinement had reached perfection, and the spiritual power within him pressed against the limits of body refinement stage. A breakthrough required only sufficient spiritual energy and time.

Spiritual energy churned like tidal waves inside him, compressed to its limit. Soon it would condense into true qi, shattering barriers to reach Qi refining stage.

Ye Yun gazed eastward where dawn cracked night’s stillness.

"Not enough time. I’ll delay the breakthrough until after tomorrow." He knew he could advance whenever he chose now.

Dong!

The morning bell’s resonance followed the breaking dawn. Ye Yun smiled and stepped from his Small Courtyard.

Dozens of outer disciples sprinted toward Martial Hall as if early arrivals could claim inner disciple assessment quotas. Walking calmly, Ye Yun savored his newfound power.

"Such careless strolling shows you’ve got a death wish." A venomous voice came from behind. "Think the inner sect assessment quota is some children’s game?"

Turning, Ye Yun saw two black robe disciples approaching. The leader was Zhen Huacheng, their past conflicts evident.

"Important to you perhaps," Ye Yun answered with mocking smile, "but yes, child’s play to me."

Zhen Huacheng blinked at the unexpected retort.

"Arrogant fool!" He barked laughter. "This isn’t like last time’s sect trial qualification match! That was sparring – this is life and death combat!"

"Life and death?" Ye Yun feigned surprise. "You die, I live. Fitting conclusion."

"Pray you don’t face me!" Zhen Huacheng’s eyes blazed. "A mere new outer disciple beneath Qi refining stage dares such insolence?"

Ye Yun laughed louder, walking onward.

"No, Zhen Huacheng – you pray. Meet me, and I’ll skip the suffering. Just death."

Murderous intent flickered in Zhen Huacheng’s gaze as he watched Ye Yun depart.
