Chapter 141: A Laughable Situation

Ye Yun wondered what good place Elder Zi had in mind.

Elder Zi smiled faintly. “Do you wish to remain on Tian Zhu Peak, or go elsewhere—even beyond Shadowless Peak?”

Ye Yun froze. Elder Zi’s influence was indeed vast, able to secure positions outside Shadowless Peak’s territory.

“This disciple still wishes to stay on Shadowless Peak. Remaining on Tian Zhu Peak would also be acceptable.” Ye Yun no longer needed to hunt for resources; he wanted to cultivate in a low-key manner.

“Then it’s simple. I have a suitable place for you.” Elder Zi nodded. “I’m closely acquainted with Leader Su Hao of Shadowless Peak. If you agree, I’ll recommend you to become his disciple.”

Ye Yun stiffened. He’d imagined many scenarios—a Tian Zhu Peak higher-up taking him in, choosing a foundation establishment stage expert there, or even Elder Zi personally guiding him, given the Little Absorption Technique’s ties to his ancestor Chen Huadao.

Yet he never expected Elder Zi’s “good place” to be Su Hao himself.

This was extraordinary. Tian Zhu Peak was merely one branch under Shadowless Peak, which commanded many such divisions. Su Hao, a foundation establishment stage expert ruling Shadowless Peak, could propel Ye Yun to greatness. Becoming his disciple meant leaping into prominence, possibly even inheriting his position someday.

But Elder Zi didn’t know Ye Yun had already met Su Hao on Shadowless Peak. The Peak Master had offered to make him one of his top ten disciples—an honor others would kill for.

Ye Yun had refused. He sought neither status nor resources. With the Little Absorption Technique and Heart of Immortals and Demons, his cultivation would advance rapidly given sufficient materials. His current hoard of heavenly materials, earthly treasures, and spirit stones could sustain a decade of cultivation, many items so rare even their names eluded him. Hualun had gathered these for her reincarnation and body-seizing plans—their true value might only be realized if Ye Yun reached the Jin Kingdom’s capital.

What Ye Yun truly needed was an experienced master who offered guidance without strict oversight—someone to answer questions while granting him freedom to cultivate. Such a teacher was rare.

“I…” Ye Yun hesitated.

“What?” Elder Zi’s brow furrowed. “You dislike this arrangement? Becoming Su Hao’s tenth disciple would bring immense prestige!”

Ye Yun smiled bitterly. “Elder Zi, I’m not unwilling. But before returning here, I visited Shadowless Peak and met the Peak Master. He made the same offer.”

“And you rejected him?” Elder Zi gaped.

Ye Yun nodded.

Elder Zi fell silent. Most disciples would fight viciously for this chance, yet Ye Yun had turned it down despite knowing Su Hao’s status.

“Is this true?” Elder Zi finally breathed.

“Yes.”

After a long pause, Elder Zi murmured, “Do you wish to join my lineage instead?”

Ye Yun looked up. “If Elder Zi accepts me, this disciple would be honored.”

Elder Zi’s status was clearly lofty—even Su Hao showed him respect. His casual use of Shui Qingxuan’s name hinted at deep familiarity. Moreover, only Elder Zi’s ancestor Chen Huadao and Ye Yun had mastered the Little Absorption Technique in centuries, suggesting a shared legacy.

Elder Zi exhaled slowly. “That would be ideal. But my lineage has dwindled to just me. With urgent matters requiring my attention, I can’t take disciples now.”

“Then I’ll rely on Elder Zi’s recommendation.”

“Return tomorrow after receiving your rewards. I’ll decide by then.” Elder Zi lifted his bamboo basket, dismissing Ye Yun with a wave.

As Ye Yun bowed to leave, Elder Zi added sternly, “Remember: Don’t rush your cultivation. A solid foundation yields greater future strength. Use the Little Absorption Technique sparingly—absorbing too much varied spiritual energy breeds Mental Demons.”

“This disciple will remember every word,” Ye Yun replied solemnly.

These words held truth—the path of cultivation was merciless. Focusing solely on advancing one’s cultivation level without consolidation risked planting Mental Demons. At critical moments, these demons could erupt, seizing control of one’s body, erasing the soul.

“Go now. Return to me the day after tomorrow,” Elder Zi waved dismissively, bamboo basket in hand as he walked into the bamboo forest, hoe trailing behind.

Ye Yun watched the elder’s retreating figure with a faint smile.

News spread swiftly across Tian Zhu Peak—only Ye Yun, Duan Chenfeng, and Yu Minghong had returned from the hundred outer disciples sent to Hualun Secret Vault.

Reactions varied: admiration, envy, jealousy, indifference.

“Survivors of sect trials receive twenty top-grade spirit stones and a medium-grade spiritual weapon. Those three struck gold!”

“Spirit stones can be earned through tasks. But a medium-grade spiritual weapon? Even elite inner sect disciples with Exceptional Cultivation Levels might lack such treasures.”

“True. They’ve truly risen.”

“Rumors say the sect will grant extra rewards since only three survived.”

“Had I known cultivators like Ye Yun and Duan Chenfeng could survive, I’d have joined! I’d be claiming rewards too!”

“Dream on. Cultivation favors fortune—yours is lacking. Ten years on Tian Zhu Peak prove it.”

“I merely pity you, brother.”

“Next major sect trial… perhaps we’ll participate.”

Across Tian Zhu Peak’s outer sect, whispers buzzed. Jealousy dominated discussions of the trio.

The rewards dwarfed ordinary expectations—enough to sustain years of cultivation without worry. A medium-grade spiritual weapon alone could enable surpassing higher-level opponents.

*Clang!*

Dawn broke. The bell’s resonance pierced every outer disciple’s ears.

Disciples flooded toward Martial Hall’s plaza.

Ye Yun emerged from the Small Courtyard to find Duan Chenfeng and Yu Minghong approaching.

“Brother Ye,” Yu Minghong began, “rumors say we’ll gain eighth-grade Celestial Techniques from Hall of Refining the Heart—extra rewards due to high deaths.”

Duan Chenfeng arched a brow. “Where’d you hear this, Little Yu?”

Ye Yun smiled. If true, he could finally choose proper cultivation techniques. Previously, he’d stuck to the basic cultivation technique while practicing Thundercloud Lightning Sword and Little Absorption Technique.

“Brother Ye, Brother Duan,” Yu Minghong’s voice quivered with excitement, “we’ll break through the Qi refining stage effortlessly! Inner disciple status awaits!”

“Enough speculation. Stay prepared,” Ye Yun said. “Let’s not delay Elder Lan and Grand Elder Chunyu Yan.”

He darted toward Martial Hall. Duan Chenfeng followed in a blur. Yu Minghong grinned, chasing after.
