Chapter 134: Collapse of the Great Tomb
The path of cultivation was merciless. Battles erupted constantly over spiritual weapons or training resources, often turning rivers red with blood.
Luo Wencheng had likely obtained the Rainbow Cloud Dress a year prior, yet still dared not dispose of it. Treasures of such caliber were nearly impossible to trade, especially within the Jin Kingdom. The mere hint of the Rainbow Cloud Dress’s presence would summon the Heavenly Sword Sect instantly. They’d interrogate anyone, determined to unearth its owner.
Luo Wencheng couldn’t handle it, and neither could Ye Yun’s group risk surrendering it. Given their low status and cultivation levels, handing it over might bring rewards—but also endless schemes and murderous intent.
Thus, Ye Yun and Duan Chenfeng proposed letting Su Ling deliver the Rainbow Cloud Dress to Su Hao. As the Peak Master of the Shadowless Peak, his status ensured the sect would accept it without suspicion. Even a fraction of the sect’s reward would sustain their training for years, perhaps even a decade.
Su Ling, sharp as ever, understood immediately. She took the dress and stored it carefully.
Ye Yun frowned at the looming Water Cloud Hall in the sky. After leaping from Hualun Hall’s seventh level into the stars, he’d been teleported to this ocean, met Qu Yiping and Su Ling, and spent an hour slaying Luo Wencheng. If Hualun Hall had begun collapsing, its seven levels should’ve crumbled by now. Why hadn’t Ouyang Wentian and the others appeared?
Ye Yun refused to believe cultivators of Ouyang Wentian’s strength had perished there.
“Su Ling, how do we exit this third layer?” Ye Yun turned to ask.
Su Ling glanced around, then shook her head. No exit existed here—a hidden spatial magical array must be cracked to escape.
“I detect no array fluctuations. The core eludes me,” she murmured after several attempts.
“So we’re stuck waiting? Damn this place!” Yu Minghong blurted, agitation rising.
“Relax, Little Yu. We’re all trapped here,” Duan Chenfeng chided, arching a brow.
Yu Minghong flushed but quieted under his gaze.
Ye Yun stared into the distance, then suddenly smiled. “No need to panic. It’s almost time.”
“What?” Su Ling and Yu Minghong demanded together.
“You found the exit?” Duan Chenfeng stared skeptically.
Ye Yun shook his head. “The great tomb will collapse soon.”
Three faces froze in disbelief.
A distant roar thundered across the ocean. The ground shuddered.
Where sea met sky, a white thread appeared, thickening rapidly.
“Move!” Ye Yun barked.
Su Ling hesitated. “Where? Shouldn’t we just wait for the collapse?”
“That’s no ordinary wave!” Duan Chenfeng shouted, eyes locked on the horizon. “It’ll bring death and spirit dissolution!”
The white line swelled from hair-thin to arm’s width. Now the roar of water reached them.
Su Ling and Yu Minghong turned to Ye Yun, panic-stricken.
“Run!” Ye Yun ordered. “Survive until the tomb collapses, and we’ll escape. Just stay ahead of the wave!”
“It’s likely an illusion!” Duan Chenfeng added. “No tomb could hold such a wave. Buy time!”
Without another word, the four sprinted opposite the advancing wall of water.
Then, just as they ran a hundred zhang away, they suddenly froze. Massive waves rose from every direction, charging at them wildly.
“What do we do?” Duan Chenfeng asked urgently, turning to Ye Yun.
Ye Yun’s face hardened as he coldly scanned the waves closing in from all sides. Strangely, his mind grew calm.
“Wait.”
“Wait?” The three spoke as one.
“Yes. Just wait.” Ye Yun pointed skyward. “Look—the Water Cloud Hall is collapsing.”
Su Ling and the others raised their heads. The Water Cloud Hall, propped up by eighteen Water Columns from the ocean floor, trembled violently. Streams of water rolled across its surface before erupting outward and plunging into the sea.
Boom!
A great crash thundered as the massive Water Cloud Hall crumbled. Countless water arrows shot hundreds of zhang into the air before raining down.
Crack!
Delicate fissures spiderwebbed across the sky, spreading faster than they could blink. The cracks multiplied, weaving a dense network of fractures overhead.
Ye Yun’s eyes lit up with a flicker of excitement as he glanced at the still-approaching waves.
Boom!
Another deafening crash split the sky. A gaping hole tore open, and sunlight speared through, striking the churning sea.
Instantly, the raging waters stilled. The sunlight spread like ripples, racing outward in all directions. Where it touched, the sea turned glass-smooth. Within moments, thousands of zhang of ocean lay placid under the light.
“What’s happening?” Duan Chenfeng growled.
“The cracks keep spreading. The great tomb must be collapsing,” Ye Yun said, staring at the fractured sky. Even the air before them now bore hairline cracks.
“I’ll cut through space!” Duan Chenfeng’s brow twitched as he summoned a sword wreathed in icy blue light. He swung it fiercely at the nearest crack.
“Stop!”
Su Ling’s scream pierced the air.
Ye Yun’s heart lurched. He yanked Su Ling against him and leaped backward.
Boom!
The sword struck the fissure. Light exploded outward. The shockwave shattered the icy blade, sending shards tearing through Duan Chenfeng’s body before plunging into the mirror-like sea.
Duan Chenfeng flew backward, blood spraying from his mouth in crimson arcs.
Yu Minghong, caught in the blast’s edge, skidded ten zhang across the ground before collapsing to his knees, face drained of color.
“The spatial crystal wall’s energy is unimaginable! How could he attack it?” Su Ling whispered, trembling as she watched Duan Chenfeng fall.
Ye Yun exhaled in relief. That recoil could’ve killed him too. He darted to Duan Chenfeng’s side, propping him up and forcing a pill between his lips.
“Steady your breath. Focus your energy to heal.”
Duan Chenfeng’s face was smeared with blood, his eyes wide with terror as he gave a weak nod.
Ye Yun rose to his feet, staring at the spatial crystal wall where Duan Chenfeng had struck. A fierce delight flashed in his gaze.
The once barely cracked spatial crystal wall now resembled a shattered pane, its surface webbed with countless fractures.
Ye Yun took a step forward and pressed his right palm gently outward.
"Ye Yun, don’t!" Su Ling cried out, terrified the exploding force from the breaking spatial crystal wall would shred him into fragments.
Ye Yun’s hand hesitated briefly before continuing its motion.
Crack!
The spatial crystal wall fractured like thin ice. A peculiar spiritual energy erupted from the breach, surging straight toward Ye Yun’s body.
The energy moved with blinding speed – impossible to dodge even if Ye Yun’s cultivation level had been twice as high.
Yet Ye Yun made no attempt to evade. A flicker of black and white light pulsed at his chest as the Heart of Immortals and Demons materialized.
"Mine!"
Ye Yun barked, activating the Little Absorption Technique to meet the strange energy head-on.
The alien spiritual energy shot from the spatial crystal wall’s depths in an instant. Ye Yun thrust his chest forward to receive it.
The energy pierced his skin without resistance, flooding his body.
The whirlpool formed by the Heart of Immortals and Demons hungered in wait. The foreign energy plunged directly into this vortex, devoured by the irresistible pull.
Ye Yun shuddered as vast spiritual energy flooded his veins, immediately siphoned away by the ravenous Heart of Immortals and Demons. Within moments, every trace of the spatial crystal wall’s energy vanished without remainder.
"Done!"
Ye Yun turned with a grin, beckoning to Su Ling.
Su Ling stood rooted, astonishment painting her delicate features. She’d braced for Ye Yun to be struck down like Duan Chenfeng by the explosive force – yet he remained unharmed.
Joy erupted across her face as she sprinted to him.
Yu Minghong arrived moments later, eyes bright with excitement.
"Yu, carry Duan. We move." Ye Yun pulled Su Ling close before addressing his companion.
Yu Minghong wordlessly hoisted the groaning Duan Chenfeng onto his back, gaze fixed on the broken spatial crystal wall.
Where the wall had shattered gaped a void-black opening, its destination unknowable.
Ye Yun drew a steadying breath. Clutching Su Ling’s hand, he stepped into the darkness.
