Chapter 107: Azure-eyed Crystal Beast

Within the massive water sphere, light and shadow swirled, their shimmering waves fluctuating between faint and bright. Yet no illumination reached the coral-constructed opening—every glimmer seemed devoured by the darkness.

Hua Yicheng paid little attention to the water sphere, his gaze fixed on the pitch-black entrance.

"Brother Hua, notice anything?" Ye Yun’s eyebrow twitched, suspicion flashing in his eyes.

"Nothing concrete. If treasures exist here, they’d lie within this cave. But this absolute darkness that swallows all light… makes me question what dangers lurk inside." Hua Yicheng’s voice held grim caution.

"Since we’ve come this far, we should investigate. Surely Brother Hua isn’t having second thoughts?" Ye Yun forced a casual laugh.

"Never. Walk behind me, Brother Ye. We’ll guard each other’s backs."

Ye Yun blinked in surprise. He’d expected the usual cultivation-world hypocrisy—false offers to take the rear while pushing others into danger. Hua Yicheng’s straightforwardness unsettled him.

Could this Qi Yang Sect disciple truly be honorable?

The cultivation path bred betrayal. Countless practitioners killed for meager training resources until death claimed both body and spirit. Every soul entering Hualun Secret Vault sought personal gain—finding genuine comrades here seemed impossible. Three years in the servant disciple outer court had taught Ye Yun to trust no one.

Here in this vault, he trusted only Su Ling.

Not that deep affection bound them—Su Ling’s status as daughter of Shadowless Peak’s Leader Su Hao granted her endless resources. Their unspoken mutual attraction simply made her the least likely to betray him.

This Hua Yicheng? Untrustworthy.

Ye Yun nearly offered to lead instead, then hesitated. What if this was reverse psychology to trick him?

"Brother Hua, though we’ve just met, we share rare camaraderie!" Ye Yun declared with exaggerated warmth. "Since we both seek treasures to boost cultivation levels, let’s unite against dangers! I’ll guard your back fiercely!"

"Good enough. Besides, real treasure hunters swarm the Water Cloud Hall—this place might hold scant rewards anyway." Hua Yicheng strode into the blackness without hesitation.

Ye Yun instantly channeled spiritual power, following warily.

Darkness swallowed them whole.

Fwoosh! Flame kindled in Ye Yun’s palm, casting feeble light…

…that died instantly, devoured by the void.

"What sorcery is this?" Ye Yun hissed.

"Wuhua Stone construction," Hua Yicheng’s voice came through blackness. "Absorbs all light. Try your Glimmering Light Technique."

Now Ye Yun understood Hua Yicheng’s willingness to lead—no walls guided them through this lightless expanse. Front or back meant nothing here.

"Wuhua Stone?"

"Rare mineral. Light-devouring, incredibly hard. Never imagined seeing so much…"

Ye Yun marveled silently. During his servant disciple days, he’d mastered the Glimmering Light Technique. Summoning it now, gentle radiance haloed his head—

—only to pop like a soap bubble, extinguished.

"Even Heavenly Sword Sect’s technique fails?" Hua Yicheng’s frustrated mutter echoed. "This complicates things."

Ye Yun raised an eyebrow. What did Hua Yicheng mean? Had he known about the Wuhua Stone’s existence all along, thinking the Heavenly Sword Sect’s Glimmering Light Technique would illuminate their path?

Swish!

As doubt surfaced in Ye Yun’s mind, light suddenly emerged from their left front. Hua Yicheng now held a massive luminous pearl whose soft glow instantly lit their surroundings.

Ye Yun witnessed a strange phenomenon.

The bowl-sized pearl emitted ribbons of light that streamed outward like silk under some invisible pull, disappearing into darkness one zhang away. Countless glowing tendrils radiated from Hua Yicheng’s hand, forming a dazzling flower-like pattern.

"Find the exit quickly! This pearl can’t last!" Hua Yicheng barked when he saw Ye Yun frozen.

The pair immediately charged forward in chosen directions.

The luminous pearl shrank visibly like fading fireworks. Once extinguished, darkness would reclaim everything.

They dashed hundreds of zhang in moments, but endless blackness stretched before them.

The pearl dimmed further, shrinking from bowl to egg size – only half an incense stick’s time remained.

"Follow!" Hua Yicheng suddenly changed course, veering left for hundred zhang before zigzagging ten zhang right.

Though confused, Ye Yun mirrored the strange path without hesitation.

After several repetitions, faint glows appeared ahead.

"Charge through!" Hua Yicheng accelerated, his pearl now fingernail-sized.

Channeling all spiritual power into their legs, they leaped forward.

As the final light vanished, they reached the glowing spots – revealing four emotionless eyes radiating coldness.

"What’s this?" Ye Yun barely stopped before colliding.

"Don’t move! Azure-eyed crystal beasts. Our water garments are made from their hides." Hua Yicheng remained calm.

These level eight beasts matched peak body refinement stage cultivators – no threat to them. Yet only four jade-green eyes floated in darkness, no visible bodies beneath.

The glowing orbs watched coldly like ghostly flames.

Ye Yun shot Hua Yicheng a questioning look but stayed silent.

"Kill them! Their eyes will guide us out." Hua Yicheng summoned his battle spear and thrust forward.

Frowning, Ye Yun drew his Obsidian Sword. Thunder roared as he unleashed Thundercloud Lightning Sword’s first stance: Thundercloud Emergence, aiming to swiftly kill a beast.

But his slashes found empty air – though the eyes seemed within reach, his sword couldn’t connect across dozens of zhang.

"What’s happening?" Ye Yun demanded.

"Keep advancing! Spatial laws distort the distance," Hua Yicheng answered while his spear’s silver glow flashed beneath the jade eyes.

Ye Yun’s doubts grew – how did Hua Yicheng know so much about the Hualun Secret Vault’s first layer that required four major forces to unlock?

Pushing questions aside, Ye Yun surged forward tenfold faster. Lightning Light Snakes crackled along his blade as he stabbed at the glowing eyes.
