Chapter 102: Mistakes in Stability
Ye Yun swiftly retreated, putting hundreds of zhang between himself and Luo Wencheng in an instant. A push from his right foot carried him dozens more zhang away.
Luo Wencheng’s face twisted with panic.
He’d once considered truly serving Ye Yun—like a drowning man grasping at straws—but changed his mind upon finding the passage to the third layer.
The barrier blocking the third layer appeared as nothing more than a simple glowing screen. Earlier tests revealed its power barely surpassed his own. Just a bit more force could pierce it!
Though unsure what lay within the Golden Pill master’s tomb’s third layer, it surely held greater treasures than the first two. Breaking through might save his life… or grant unimaginable opportunities.
This thought hardened his resolve: use Ye Yun’s strength to shatter the restrictions, then kill him.
Yet Ye Yun’s sharp instincts detected the trap too quickly.
Looking up, Luo Wencheng saw three figures appear behind the retreating Ye Yun. The slender silhouette could only be Su Ling, who’d left earlier.
“Ye Yun!”
Su Ling’s joyous cry echoed from afar.
Relief washed over Ye Yun, though cold sweat soaked his back—the mortal danger had finally passed.
Overwhelmed with relief, Su Ling blurted, “Ye Yun! I brought Chen Yin and Liang Xuantong—Second and Fifth Brothers among Uncle Ouyang’s ten true inheritors. Luo Wencheng stands no chance now!”
Ye Yun steadied himself and bowed to the men beside her. “Brother Chen. Brother Liang.”
Both outranked Luo Wencheng in status and power. The handsome man on Su Ling’s left had starlit eyes devoid of emotion, yet terrifying spiritual pressure rippled from him. This could only be Chen Yin.
Chen Yin gave a slight nod. The milder-looking Liang Xuantong smiled warmly. “Brother Ye’s luck holds. Turning peril to safety deserves great reward. No wonder Sister Su rushed so urgently.”
Ye Yun blinked—Liang Xuantong’s casual manner contrasted with his high status.
Su Ling’s face flushed crimson. She stamped her foot, glaring at Luo Wencheng. “Do you regret your actions now?”
“Junior Brother Luo,” Liang Xuantong added mildly, as if remembering their purpose, “this was too extreme.”
Chen Yin stood silent, eyes half-closed.
Back pressed against the invisible barrier, Luo Wencheng’s face paled then flushed. “Senior Brothers… spare me. We’re sect siblings!”
“Eighth Brother,” Liang Xuantong sighed, fan fluttering, “Shadowless and Absolute Sword Peaks have been allies for generations. Sister Su visited often—yet you dared attack her?”
“I lost the green jade divine rune!” Luo Wencheng pleaded. “Madness clouded my judgment!”
“Save your excuses.” Liang Xuantong shook his head. “Return with us. We’ll beg Master for mercy.”
“You know Master’s temper! If Shadowless Peak learns of this, her father’s One Sword strike will end me—not even Master could stop it! Returning means death!” Luo Wencheng laughed wildly. “Deny me escape, and I’ll drag you all down!”
“Stubborn fool.” Liang Xuantong’s smile faded. “Don’t blame me.”
“Fifth Brother,” Chen Yin intoned emotionlessly, “end this quickly.”
Liang Xuantong bowed respectfully. White light flashed as his folding fan became a streak shooting toward Luo Wencheng.
Both men stood at the Qi refining stage’s pinnacle, but Liang Xuantong’s true qi had condensed into essence, refined by true fire—half-step into Foundation Establishment. Luo Wencheng couldn’t compare.
The white light struck instantly. Luo Wencheng slashed a defensive arc with his sword.
Clang!
The collision sparked bright flashes. Luo Wencheng staggered back against the barrier.
“Surrender,” Liang Xuantong urged, fan raised. “I’ll spare you.”
“Hypocrite!” Luo Wencheng spat. “Stop pretending—fight!”
Liang Xuantong’s face darkened. Leaping up, he unleashed a massive light-shadow hand that blotted out Luo Wencheng.
Chen Yin’s brow twitched. Ye Yun frowned—Luo Wencheng’s sudden defiance didn’t fit his cowardly nature. Something was wrong.
As the crushing hand descended, Luo Wencheng smirked.
Then—he vanished.
“Danger!” Ye Yun and Chen Yin shouted simultaneously.
Too late. Liang Xuantong’s strike smashed into the barrier.
