Chapter 7: I Greedily Want to Have Everything (1)
Bai Lian crawled out from under the quilt and stretched lazily. However, as she opened her eyes, she froze in shock.
Hanging less than two inches from her head was something long and thick.
“A rope?”
She wiped her eyes, certain she must be imagining it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an illusion.
The rope hung brightly and conspicuously from the beam. Though it appeared to be made of ordinary material, it looked surprisingly sturdy.
Curious, Bai Lian flicked it lightly with her fingers.
Ah.
It felt cool to the touch, likely due to the morning dew brought in by the half-opened window. The rope’s end was still damp.
Bai Lian blinked in confusion.
“Why is there a rope hanging from the beam? The room was fine when I went to bed last night.”
Suspicious, she released her Divine Sense to scan the room. Everything appeared in order; the house was untouched, and the protective magic arrays were functioning properly.
“Could it be the fifth Martial Sister’s doing?”
Her suspicion wasn’t baseless. The “haunting” incident in her room a few months ago had been orchestrated by the second and third Martial Sisters.
Back then, Bai Lian had let her guard down because she didn’t see her younger Martial Sisters as threats. That habit left her vulnerable to their harmless pranks.
When dealing with others, however, Bai Lian could be unpredictable:
1. A stranger attempting a sneak attack would be swiftly neutralized—often fatally.
2. A younger Martial Sister casually walking behind her might surprise her by gently rubbing her shoulders.
Now, her gaze fell on the fifth Martial Sister. Ling Xuan, sprawled under the quilt, had her short legs sticking out and appeared to be in a deep sleep.
Bai Lian turned her attention to the other Martial Sisters.
By this hour, the older sisters were typically outside, doing their morning exercises under the glow of dawn.
“I’ll ask them later,” Bai Lian muttered to herself.
Quietly, she slipped out of the room without waking Ling Xuan.
—
In the courtyard, Bai Lian gathered her three older Martial Sisters.
Clearing her throat, she declared, “I have something important to announce!”
Her younger Martial Sisters exchanged curious glances as they focused on her.
Bai Lian proceeded to explain her newly devised “Younger Martial Sisters Raising Project – Version 1.0.”
Rules and regulations, she explained, were like cultivation techniques: they must be tested and refined over time. One couldn’t jump straight to perfection—it required trial and error.
The announcement left Xiao Jinse and Su Youwei dumbfounded.
Yu Ying, however, remained as composed as ever. To her, anything Bai Lian said was as good as law.
Bai Lian smiled. “Of course, I’m not a demon. If you perform well in the examination, I’ll prepare a special gift for you. But if you fail…”
Her voice grew sterner.
“You’ll be responsible for the chores around Qiongming Peak, including tidying up the rooms of your Elder Martial Sisters!”
Xiao Jinse’s ears perked up.
“Does that include your room, Elder Martial Sister?” she asked, her voice laced with excitement.
Bai Lian’s tone was firm.
“No. I’ll clean my own room.”
Instantly, Xiao Jinse’s enthusiasm dimmed. Beside her, Su Youwei also looked visibly disappointed.
Their thoughts aligned: Who wants to touch each other’s dirty clothes and socks?
Their disdain for the punishment reignited their competitive spirit.
“We won’t fail,” they vowed internally.
Bai Lian nodded approvingly. Perfect.
She then outlined their short-term goals:
“If any of you can make it into the top four during the competition, you’ll earn the right to make a wish. I’ll fulfill it, as long as it isn’t something unreasonable or lazy.”
Xiao Jinse’s eyes lit up.
A wish?
Her mind raced. Could she ask to spend the night with Bai Lian?
Fueled by her imagination, Xiao Jinse was now burning with determination.
—
As her younger Martial Sisters dispersed to cultivate, Bai Lian called out, “Wait a moment!”
She fixed her gaze on Xiao Jinse.
At that moment, the system’s familiar prompt appeared:
[Task 1: Smile and declare, “Second Martial Sister, let me dominate you today!” (Reward: a cultivation method – Little Finger Twirling)]
[Task 2: Speak seriously to Xiao Jinse, “Second Martial Sister, come with me. I’ll test your strength.” (Reward: Hard Skill +1)]
[Task 3: Wait until midnight to privately contact the second Martial Sister. (Reward: Cold Green Jade)]
Bai Lian’s eyes lingered on Task 1, debating her next move.
