Chapter 4 Part 2: The Appearance of Yaoguang Star Lord at Last (2)
Bai Lian traveled across half of the East Divine Land with little trouble along the way.
However, she encountered a minor setback when passing through the Taicang Basin.
The Taicang Basin, located on the edge of the Wanda Mountains, is a famous land of fish and rice in the East Divine Land.
But when Bai Lian flew over the basin, she was struck by an unsettling sight.
The once lush rice fields that stretched for thousands of miles were now completely dried up, and fist-sized cracks covered the earth.
The once bustling river, frequented by pleasure boats, had turned into an ugly black ditch.
Where there had once been life, now lay desolation.
As expected, a drought had hit, but this was no ordinary drought.
Whenever such a disaster strikes, many are displaced, and Taicang Basin was no exception. Dry vegetation and dusty roads marked the path of countless refugees, many of whom had perished from starvation along the way.
Bai Lian was stunned.
“What’s going on here?”
Though the Taicang Basin is not a place immune to difficulties, it has always had favorable weather conditions. Droughts were rare here.
Moreover, even if there was a drought, the wealth of the area meant cultivators could easily be hired to perform rain spells.
As Bai Lian pondered, a task appeared before her.
[Task 1: Take action to solve the drought in Taicang Basin (Reward: Medicine Skill +2)]
[Task 2: I’m Just Passing By (Reward: Light Skill +1)]
She sighed.
Was the reward for Task 2 meant as a mockery?
Still, Bai Lian couldn’t turn a blind eye to the plight she had encountered.
She decisively chose Task 1.
With her cultivation, it was easy to summon rain or snow at will.
However, when the rain fell, it vanished just as quickly.
Perplexed, Bai Lian released her Divine Sense and discovered a broken ancient magic array deep within the mountains.
Although in ruins, the array was powerful, covering a large area with the ability to block water. It was no wonder that the drought had persisted for so long.
Effortlessly, she destroyed the array, and the rain that followed remained, soaking the land.
“All right.”
Bai Lian gently patted the jade rabbit’s head.
The earth cheered, and Bai Lian left the Taicang Basin swiftly.
By evening, she arrived at the Flying Fog.
Upon hearing that the jade rabbit had returned, Qiong Zhi, the Yaoguang Rabbit King, hurried out of the White Wood Palace.
“Daughter!” she cried, rushing to embrace the jade rabbit tightly.
The force of the hug was so strong that the jade rabbit nearly became one with the embrace.
“Mother, you’re suffocating me!” the jade rabbit thought, struggling to escape.
Bai Lian stepped forward and kindly said, “Elder Qiong Zhi, the jade rabbit is about to be strangled.”
“Huh?”
Startled, Qiong Zhi released the jade rabbit, who promptly collapsed to the ground, spinning in a dizzy daze.
Bai Lian couldn’t help but understand why the jade rabbit had run away from home. The pressure from her mother was overwhelming!
This pressure wasn’t just physical but mental as well.
Nearby, in the Green Plant Square in front of the White Wood Palace, demonic beasts gathered in curiosity.
They peered out from every corner, all eager to witness the spectacle. Upon hearing the arrival of Princess Yao Ye and the renowned White Emperor Bai Lian, even those with tasks paused to watch.
Among the onlookers was a peculiar flower with two mouths, one on top and one at the bottom. A slimy substance bubbled within her body.
“Puff! If I could copulate with White Emperor Bai Lian, I would die a happy death.”
The voice was interrupted by a mermaid-like creature resembling jelly. She straightened up, proudly proclaiming her superiority.
“I’m much better! I can give a full-body massage.”
The scene became chaotic as demonic beasts began to argue loudly.
Bai Lian’s forehead broke into cold sweat.
While she wasn’t indifferent to beauty, she wasn’t interested in such bizarre displays. She preferred gentle, aesthetic movements—not “extreme challenges.”
“Let’s go inside first.”
Qiong Zhi quickly ushered Bai Lian and the jade rabbit into the White Wood Palace.
Her thoughts were clear: “You seductive creatures! Stay away from my daughter!”
The Green Plant Square quickly emptied, but the curious onlookers had no intention of leaving.
Once inside, Bai Lian got straight to the point.
“Master Qiong Zhi, I came here to…”
She recounted the troubles the jade rabbit had been facing, particularly the desire to break through to the Soul Changing Stage.
Qiong Zhi had heard of the jade rabbit’s ambitions before, but back then, she hadn’t taken them seriously. The jade rabbit had just reached the peak of the Nascent Soul Stage, and breaking through to the next level seemed like a distant dream.
But now, after hearing Bai Lian’s words again, Qiong Zhi’s expression changed. Her daughter’s situation was far from trivial.
As Bai Lian’s future mother-in-law, she could not just sit back and let her daughter face these struggles alone.
“Come here.”
Qiong Zhi lifted the jade rabbit, inspecting it in front of Bai Lian.
“Haw…”
The jade rabbit struggled.
She was accustomed to Bai Lian’s touch, but this was different—being touched by her own mother in front of Bai Lian felt strange.
No matter how much she struggled, the jade rabbit couldn’t break free from Qiong Zhi’s magical grasp.
After a while, Qiong Zhi set the jade rabbit down.
The jade rabbit, feeling wronged, crawled to Bai Lian’s feet and clung to them, almost like a submissive little wife.
Bai Lian could only squat down, gently stroking her back to offer comfort.
She noticed that Qiong Zhi’s brow furrowed, and she could sense that the situation wasn’t ideal.
Sure enough, Qiong Zhi spoke.
“I examined Yao Ye carefully. There are no abnormalities. I also checked the historical records of the Yaoguang Rabbit clan. No record suggests that any of them faced an insurmountable barrier during cultivation.”
Upon hearing these words, the jade rabbit’s eyes dimmed.
If she couldn’t transform, what would happen to the vow she had made? Could she really force Bai Lian into bad deeds while remaining in her rabbit form?
At that moment, a Yaoguang Rabbit maid, standing nearby, suddenly spoke up.
“Your Highness, why not consult the magical laurel tree?”
Qiong Zhi blinked, suddenly recalling the laurel tree.
The jade rabbit was unique among the Yaoguang Rabbits on the Flying Fog, not because of any special identity, but because she had recently undergone the baptism of the laurel tree.
It had been a night when Bai Lian, using her starry power, illuminated the laurel tree with a soft, radiant glow.
The jade rabbit had received the tree’s blessing, for she was seen as the one most capable of restoring the glory of the Flying Fog.
“Follow me.”
They walked towards the laurel tree.
Without the divine glow, the tree appeared like any other ordinary tree, and the evening breeze gently rustled its leaves.
Bai Lian and Qiong Zhi stood at the outskirts, while the jade rabbit approached the tree alone.
No change at first.
Qiong Zhi hadn’t expected anything, for after five thousand years, many had tried to awaken the tree, yet no one had ever succeeded.
Then, as the jade rabbit placed her forelimbs on the tree, something extraordinary happened.
Brilliant starlight erupted, filling the air with the brilliance of countless stars.
The jade rabbit was enveloped in the starlight, and a massive painting began to form, shrouding the entire Flying Fog.
The landscape seemed to come alive, and cries of alarm echoed from all around.
It was like the start of a new world!
The sight deeply impacted Bai Lian.
Though she had used her own Yaoguang Special Effect many times, what happened next surpassed everything. The stars emanating from the jade rabbit weren’t just an effect—they were more powerful than anything Bai Lian had ever experienced.
“Indeed, the jade rabbit is the reincarnation of Yaoguang Star Lord.”
Before Bai Lian could speak, the vision before them shifted again.
The massive scroll trembled violently, as if struck by an unseen force. The Milky Way turned upside down, and the night sky itself seemed to shatter.
The scene looked like the end of the world.
“Come on…”
Qiong Zhi moved forward, intent on protecting the jade rabbit.
But as soon as she stepped forward, the visions vanished as suddenly as they had appeared, leaving behind only silence.
Bai Lian and Qiong Zhi were stunned.
They turned to see the jade rabbit, head down, walking away dejectedly.
“I didn’t see anything. I just heard a vague voice say…”
“Now is not the time!”
