Chapter 6: Spending a Good Night With Bai Lian (2)
The moment An Lan reached out to the cultivation method floating in the sea of her divine sense, her entire mind erupted in chaos.
It was as if a dam had burst, and countless streams surged forth, overwhelming her senses.
In that instant, An Lan’s mind went completely blank.
She felt weightless, like a swallow soaring high into the sky, climbing to the very highest heights.
Warmth spread through her body, as if she were soaking in a pool of spring water.
“Ah…”
An Lan gasped in shock.
What Bai Lian had found was a cultivation method at the “Creation Level”!
Even An Lan couldn’t ignore such a treasure.
After a moment of disorientation, An Lan quickly regained her senses and opened her mouth to ask Bai Lian about it. But as she did, she suddenly found herself choking on a lump in her throat.
“The cucumber…”
She coughed violently, rolling on the bed as the force of the cough wracked her body.
After a few moments, she froze, realizing something.
Why did I roll like that?!
Quickly, she gathered her spirit Qi to dispel the cucumber from her throat. As she looked up, she saw Bai Lian staring at her in bewilderment.
It was over. Her authority had taken a hit!
Damn it, cucumber!
An Lan seethed with anger. She was now determined that “cucumbers” would be banished from Qiongming Peak. No more cucumbers, ever!
What frustrated her even more was that she, once the Heavenly Lord, had shown such an unflattering side of herself in front of Bai Lian.
This was unforgivable.
And to make matters worse, how had she become so unguarded? When had she become so careless?
An Lan couldn’t understand.
Could this mean she was in a period of decline?
Bai Lian hurriedly offered a glass of water to An Lan.
An Lan raised her hand, intending to knock the cup away in irritation, but the moment her fingers brushed Bai Lian’s wrist, she froze.
She wasn’t a demon. This wasn’t Bai Lian’s fault.
“I don’t need it,” An Lan said coldly.
Bai Lian, undeterred, took the quilt off and asked, “Master, how do you feel about this cultivation method?”
“It’s not bad. It’s of great reference to me. You can try practicing it,” An Lan replied, “Where did you find it?”
It was a gift from the system!
But An Lan wouldn’t say that aloud.
Bai Lian quickly made up a story, “I found it near the remains of the Green Dragon.”
An Lan’s mind immediately began to spin. Had the Green Dragon and the ember been competing for this cultivation method?
She imagined an entire saga unfolding in her mind, where both had failed to obtain it, and it had ultimately ended up in Bai Lian’s hands!
How fortunate Bai Lian was.
If not for her luck, Bai Lian would have perished under the pile of “Death words”…
An Lan paused.
Wait.
The reason why Bai Lian’s “Death words” were reduced wasn’t just because she had taken Ling Xuan back—it must have been the discovery of this “Creation Level” cultivation method.
An Lan’s mind raced.
“…”
And why did I take Ling Xuan as my disciple in the first place?
This was self-inflicted trouble.
She glared at Bai Lian.
Rebel! Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!
Did you mean it?
No, that can’t be right.
Bai Lian was so mature and steady. How could she see through An Lan’s thoughts?
The “Death words” were so mysterious that Bai Lian could never have figured out how to eliminate them.
An Lan must have been overthinking.
In the end, her disciple, Bai Lian, was dutiful. She had immediately thought of An Lan when she came across something valuable.
An Lan’s mood lightened, and without realizing it, her lips curled into a faint smile.
Bai Lian mirrored her smile.
Finally! Shifu was happy. Now, Bai Lian had a chance to make her move.
Bai Lian swiftly mentioned the issue with Ling Xuan and the jade rabbit.
“The jade rabbit seems a little upset. Shifu, I know you didn’t mean it. I’ll go comfort her later.”
Bai Lian had already devised a plan.
It might be difficult for An Lan to apologize in person, since she never apologized to anyone. So Bai Lian would do it for her.
This needed to be addressed properly, or An Lan would be furious to see Bai Lian apologizing in her stead.
But An Lan’s reaction completely surprised her.
“Of course I didn’t mean it!” An Lan immediately retorted, “It’s just that I had something urgent to deal with, otherwise…”
Bai Lian asked, “What was it?”
An Lan’s tone turned sharp. “You don’t need to know!”
It was all your fault!
If you hadn’t gathered the younger Martial Sisters, would I have had to go outside your house to confirm what was happening?
Thankfully, you stopped that “immoral” activity, or I would’ve been forced to discipline you!
Bai Lian nodded. She saw An Lan take out a top-quality spiritual herb.
“This is a reward for the rabbit. Please help me give it to her.”
Bai Lian took the herb without hesitation.
An Lan’s patience was wearing thin.
After the exchange, Bai Lian left the cave.
As she stepped into the bamboo forest bathed in moonlight, she felt something surreal.
It had been too smooth. She had succeeded without facing any setbacks.
“It seems Shifu is changing slowly,” Bai Lian thought to herself, pleased.
She found the jade rabbit in the herb garden and explained everything. Once the jade rabbit accepted the spiritual herb, her earlier grievances vanished.
The jade rabbit’s expression softened, and she happily resumed munching on the grass.
“I’ll go now.”
The night was still young, and Bai Lian had many things to do.
Since the fifth Martial Sister had no room of her own, Bai Lian let her stay in her room.
Afterward, she sat by the window, writing out her “Younger Martial Sisters Raising Project.”
First and foremost, she needed to assert the authority of her Elder Martial Sisters, teaching them that cultivation was a serious matter.
Next, she set up a reward and punishment system.
Bai Lian decided to assess her younger Martial Sisters regularly, rewarding those who excelled and punishing those who fell short by assigning them chores around the Qiongming Peak.
The punishments were light, but the younger Martial Sisters were proud—this would motivate them to cultivate harder.
In addition to regular assessments, there were a few key events coming up.
The Immortality Promotion Meeting of the Duxian sect, the Five Peaks Competition, and the Internal Ranking Battle of the Ten Thousand Immortals League.
Qiongming Peak had never participated in such events before, but Bai Lian was determined to change that. She wanted her Martial Sisters to have goals, even if they weren’t to show off.
Poor performance? Reflect on it.
Good performance? What reward do you want? Tell me, I’ll give you anything!
“That’s it,” Bai Lian concluded.
She paused, adding one more point.
[Stimulate the younger Martial Sisters appropriately so they can compete with each other without harboring ill feelings.]
For example, if the second Martial Sister earned the chance to observe her Tao Halo because of exceptional performance, the third and fourth Martial Sisters would surely work even harder to earn the same.
That was the strategy!
Bai Lian beamed with pride, thinking herself a visionary genius.
After all, she had cancelled the night class early.
She bit her pen, excited.
“Well, it’s still not enough. I need to find time to answer their questions, then take them out for training to help generate new motivation for cultivation.”
That’s it.
She folded the plan and placed it into her storage space.
It was getting late, so she glanced at the fifth Martial Sister, who was still peacefully sleeping, then lay down on the floor to rest.
This night passed quietly.
Bai Lian fell asleep in the cool night breeze.
A while later, a faint breath brushed through the air, gently surrounding Bai Lian’s room.
Clatter.
A faint noise sounded as An Lan climbed through the window.
She was here to teach Bai Lian a lesson!
Despite the joy of receiving the “Creation Level” cultivation method, An Lan hadn’t forgotten that Bai Lian had forced her to apologize to Thousand Sword City.
As a Heavenly Lord, how could she break her word?
To keep her actions hidden, An Lan used a spell to sever everyone’s divine senses on Qiongming Peak.
Now, no one would know what she was about to do.
“Clean your ass, and wait for me to beat you, rebel!”
An Lan scowled.
Her gaze flickered to Ling Xuan, still giggling in her sleep, and then to Bai Lian, who looked dignified even in slumber. An Lan, for some reason, felt an odd pull.
What had little Bai Lian been like when she was ten? Surely troubled by the “Death words,” probably frowning as she slept.
Poor little Bai Lian.
An Lan hung a rope on the beam.
She knelt beside Bai Lian, preparing to tie her up with a quilt and suspend her just like she had with Yan Yue in the past.
But as she reached to adjust Bai Lian’s exposed hand, the young woman suddenly pulled her waist toward her in her sleep.
“!?”
An Lan was utterly shocked.
She attempted to pull away, but as she did, she heard Bai Lian murmuring in her sleep.
“Oh, the second Martial Sister.”
“…”
At first, An Lan didn’t resist and was pulled back by Bai Lian. Now, she found herself lying on top of Bai Lian, their bodies so close that she could feel Bai Lian’s coldness seeping through the quilt.
This… this… this…
An Lan was furious.
Are you blind? Who is your second Martial Sister?!
She twisted her body in anger and raised her hand to slap Bai Lian.
But Bai Lian continued to talk in her sleep. “Ah, it’s so flat. Could it be the third Martial Sister? No, it can’t be Shifu, can it?”
An Lan froze, her movements stilled.
Who else could I be?!
She jumped up, as if Bai Lian had exposed her weakness.
Traitor, traitor, traitor…
In a fit of rage, An Lan flipped Bai Lian over and grabbed a ruler, hitting her repeatedly on the bottom.
After giving Bai Lian a thorough punishment, An Lan stormed out of the room, still fuming with anger.
The night passed in an uneasy silence.
The next morning, Bai Lian woke up, her body stiffening as she suddenly froze.
“?!”
When did she fall asleep on her stomach, with her hips raised so deliberately?
Never mind. Today, she would teach the second Martial Sister a lesson. Alone.
