Chapter 40: I, Bai Lian! (2)
Gong Xuexin?
Isn’t that the name of the Duxian sect’s founding master?
Could Yan Yue be the reincarnated founding master of the Duxian sect?
Countless questions raced through her mind instantly.
It’s too late now to dwell on these matters.
Yan Yue is trying to escape!
How laughable.
If you manage to escape from me, I’ll do a handstand for you!
Bai Lian grabbed Yan Yue’s pants in one swift move, and the drawback of wearing such tight pants became apparent.
A sharp ripping sound.
Despite the tear, Yan Yue was still pulled back by Bai Lian.
“Wake up! Stop trying to avoid the issue. Have you forgotten about the Blood Tree Patriarch at Zhuyan peak?” Bai Lian glared at Yan Yue.
She had given this careful thought.
When dealing with someone like Yan Yue who wants to flee from reality, gentle words wouldn’t suffice.
The Blood Tree Patriarch would be reduced to ashes if she didn’t snap Yan Yue out of it immediately!
Since that’s the case, force is necessary.
She’d need to be as forceful as the “Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian” from the game!
Yan Yue’s eyes darted wildly as she stammered, “I-I know nothing about the Blood Tree Patriarch. I won’t cause trouble, but I’m not afraid of it either!”
While speaking, she drew her knife, preparing to teach Bai Lian a harsh lesson.
How dare she!
Bai Lian snatched the knife from Yan Yue.
With a grip and a squeeze.
Kaboom!
The blade crumbled to powder, falling from Bai Lian’s palm.
Bai Lian looked down at Yan Yue, whose legs were trembling, and said, “Do you really think you can stand against me?”
Yan Yue glared fiercely at Bai Lian. “I am Gong Xuexin, the Duxian sect’s founder. You think I fear you? Since you won’t follow protocol, I won’t show courtesy either!”
“Is that all you’ve got?”
Heh.
Bai Lian laughed dismissively.
“I’m still a reincarnated Immortal Emperor. Even if you are Gong Xuexin, how dare you challenge me? Stand up straight!”
I’ll spank you until you can’t sit down!
Yan Yue refused to yield, fighting back desperately.
She rapidly conjured several small fireballs to bombard Bai Lian’s chest, but Bai Lian simply ducked and extinguished them.
She shot a water jet aimed at Bai Lian’s stomach, but the water reversed course and splashed her own face.
Finally, she had to resort to her prized Level 2 Talisman, which howled with gusting wind, carrying snowflakes and hurling rocks.
After a dizzying sequence of movements, Yan Yue was horrified to discover she’d accomplished nothing; instead, her clothes were in tatters. If she hadn’t quickly gathered the falling fabric, she would have been exposed before Bai Lian.
“You…”
Yan Yue gritted her teeth.
She desperately wanted to charge forward and tear Bai Lian apart, but in her current situation, she dared not move at all.
In truth, she knows this is a dream.
She knows she is Yan Yue, and she knows that Bai Lian is Bai Lian.
This knowledge only makes her more distraught.
After all, she’s still Bai Lian’s master!
Master!
Bai Lian approached her.
You…
Don’t come any closer!
Yan Yue was completely flustered.
She waved her empty right hand, “Get out, get out, quickly leave my body!”
Bai Lian stood firm and said menacingly, “I won’t leave unless you obey me!”
“Go away, ah…”
Yan Yue stumbled backward and fell to the ground with a thud.
Sitting on the snow, she felt the chill seep in.
“You… you… Bai Lian, are you really going to bully your master today?” Yan Yue’s voice trembled with fear.
Bai Lian shook her head gently.
She couldn’t deny it; she was indeed contemplating.
Well.
The founder of the Duxian sect had long since passed away. How could she truly bully her now?
There’s no other choice.
Bai Lian could swear on her conscience.
What she was about to do wasn’t out of malice but from a place of “sincerity”!
Founder.
Please forgive my impetuous actions.
“Yes!”
With that, Bai Lian grabbed Yan Yue’s hand and straddled her thigh, rendering Yan Yue’s struggles futile.
“Release me!”
Yan Yue tried desperately to throw Bai Lian off.
But all her efforts were in vain.
Bai Lian held her hands firmly, folding them outward.
“If your master knew, she would expel you from the sect!”
“You dishonorable scoundrel!”
“I won’t forgive you!”
Yan Yue was on the verge of tears.
She was completely vulnerable now.
Not only was her strength depleted, but her spirit was also about to break.
How did it come to this?
The starry sky had lost its brilliance, and Yan Yue’s vision seemed covered by a dark veil.
Bai Lian waited patiently.
Unfortunately, the system generated no tasks.
That would have to do.
Suddenly, a garment appeared in her right hand, and to Yan Yue’s surprise, she covered her with it completely.
“I should have helped you dress properly, but this will have to do to prevent your escape.”
“…”
Yan Yue stared blankly at Bai Lian.
Bai Lian said, “I may not fully understand your thoughts, but you know yourself. Think carefully—why am I here?”
Yan Yue remained silent.
Bai Lian continued, “You called me here, didn’t you? You’re terrified that your actions will affect the Blood Tree Patriarch’s Guafeng Disaster, so you sought a solution, and that’s why you reached out to me.”
Yan Yue sniffled.
The air carried a sharp tang.
Bai Lian sighed.
She raised her fist, preparing to strike Yan Yue’s face.
Yan Yue flinched and turned away too quickly.
The wind howled mournfully.
“Bang!”
The punch landed on her ear and struck the snow.
“If I could wake you with a single punch, I wouldn’t hesitate,” Bai Lian said seriously. “You feel worthless, so you hide in dreams, because everyone here needs you—but this is all false. By staying here, you’re truly abandoning those who need you in reality.”
“No…”
“Enough excuses!”
Bai Lian delivered a sharp slap to Yan Yue’s side.
“Pa.”
“Didn’t you claim to be Gong Xuexin? How can the Duxian Sect’s founding ancestor be so weak and heartless?”
“I’m not!”
Tears welled up in Yan Yue’s eyes.
“If you’re not, why are you hiding here? Look at this!”
Bai Lian pressed “Yan Yue’s Diary”—secretly given to her by the Blood Tree Patriarch—against Yan Yue’s chest, then released her grip.
This was, of course, just a simulation created with her Divine Sense.
“The Blood Tree Patriarch secretly copied your diary and gave it to me, hoping you could reconcile with my master.”
“The Blood Tree Patriarch has watched over you for hundreds of years, seeing you grow from a child to who you are now. Will you abandon it like this?”
As Yan Yue read through her diary, Bai Lian spoke of past events.
Many things Yan Yue had forgotten were recorded there.
But her focus was on the Blood Tree Patriarch’s annotations after each entry.
That feeling…
More than a brother, yet different.
Yan Yue trembled, clutching the diary tightly.
Bai Lian sighed, “Don’t take affection for granted just because it’s familiar. You’ll regret it when it’s gone.”
“I…”
Yan Yue shifted the diary slightly.
Her exposed eyes glistened before tears began flowing freely.
“I’m worthless, just worthless, I’m sorry…”
Her sobs grew louder, drowning out the mountain winds as the world around them began to shift.
Time flew past like an arrow.
Bai Lian witnessed Gong Xuexin’s birth.
She saw her become an orphan.
She watched her grow up supported by townspeople.
She observed as a kind neighbor sent her to study at a Taoist temple.
She saw her return and cultivate near the small town.
She witnessed the temple’s destruction.
She watched her grow through pain.
She saw her make new friends.
She observed as Gong Xuexin realized one person’s strength couldn’t protect everything she loved, leading her to establish the Duxian Sect.
She saw her lead the sect to glory.
She witnessed the small town’s destruction, Silver Frost Mountain becoming Silver Frost Valley, Gong Xuexin’s heart breaking, and an enemy’s blade leaving an permanent scar on her back.
She saw her die in self-reproach.
She watched her continue to cry out, “I’m just worthless!”
Bai Lian fell silent.
Clearly, returning Yan Yue to normal wouldn’t be simple.
She couldn’t travel back five thousand years to prevent the tragedy, and the situation was likely even more complex than what she’d seen.
Bai Lian scratched her head.
She extended her hand.
“At least stay strong for now. After the Blood Tree Patriarch safely passes through the Guafeng Disaster, I’ll try to find a way to help you.”
Yan Yue didn’t respond but didn’t resist either.
“I’ll take that as agreement.”
Bai Lian cradled the tearful Yan Yue like a princess.
She would now return her to the Duxian Sect.
If “Gong Xuexin” tried to interfere, she wouldn’t be gentle.
Meanwhile…
Somewhere in Silver Frost Valley’s underground.
She gently wiped away the black mud from her forehead.
“So you were the source of trouble after all.”
Before her stood a stone tablet.
An Lan pulled it out directly, joy flooding her heart.
Perfect!
With this, she could help Yan Yue recover.
She hadn’t meant to bully Yan Yue; she only wanted Yan Yue to dislike her so that if enemies captured her in the future, Yan Yue wouldn’t be implicated.
But…
Never mind that now. Let’s go go go!
