Chapter 4: Younger Martial Sisters (1)
Bai Lian stood in front of An Lan’s bed, and Ling Xuan hid behind her, revealing only half of her body. Her small hands nervously grasped Bai Lian’s clothes.
Is this Shifu?
Compared to Sister Bai Lian, Shifu was so small. People might even mistake Sister Bai Lian for the master and Shifu for the disciple.
As Ling Xuan gazed at An Lan, An Lan also stared back at her.
She had to admit that Ling Xuan was very cute.
Her bun-style hair radiated a quiet enthusiasm.
The abrasion mark on her palm also showed that she wasn’t from a rich family.
This strange girl was so cute. What was the poor little Bai Lian like when she was ten years old?
That thought made An Lan feel a pang of sadness.
If I had met Bai Lian ten years ago, things would have been much simpler.
When An Lan regained her former strength, she would certainly go against the flow of time to see the ten-year-old Bai Lian.
Maybe… she could even create a world where Bai Lian only listened to her.
An Lan glanced at Bai Lian.
When had Bai Lian last brought a strange woman back?
Yes, it was just a few months ago!
Bai Lian had suddenly brought back her current fourth disciple and then asked An Lan to accept her as a disciple.
Bai Lian surely didn’t want to repeat her old tricks this time, did she?
An Lan sneered inwardly.
A real strong woman wouldn’t fall into the same trap twice!
This time, she was fully prepared. No matter whether Bai Lian was trying to act tough or pretend to be weak, An Lan wouldn’t give her any chance.
Bai Lian had accumulated enough Death words. If they continued to grow, she would be strangled by karma sooner or later.
She had been up to so much recently, and the Death words on her body must have only increased.
An Lan studied Bai Lian closely.
Her eyes widened in shock.
Huh?
She stood up straight from the bed.
Half a month ago, the Death words on Bai Lian’s body looked like plate armor!
But now, the Death words were not increasing—they were actually decreasing. Around Bai Lian’s legs, the Death words had drastically reduced, almost as if Bai Lian were wearing hollowed-out black stockings.
What happened?
An Lan’s expression became serious.
She quickly walked up to Bai Lian and reached out to grab the hem of Bai Lian’s skirt.
“Are you alright? Let me take a look at your legs!”
“…”
Bai Lian was stunned.
Ling Xuan, standing beside Bai Lian, was even more frightened.
Why does this feel wrong?
Is this the way a master-disciple relationship is supposed to be?
Ling Xuan felt as though she had walked into a terrible situation.
At that moment, An Lan suddenly raised her head and looked directly at Ling Xuan.
Ling Xuan immediately shrank behind Bai Lian.
“Not bad. You weren’t hurt. You didn’t make me lose face!”
An Lan released her grip on Bai Lian’s skirt.
She held her chest in her hands, standing just a foot away from Bai Lian, and looked up to meet Bai Lian’s eyes.
“Tell me everything that happened after you went to the Thunder Swamp.”
Bai Lian nodded, about to speak.
To leave a good impression on Shifu, she highlighted the fifth Martial Sister in her story, greatly downplaying the roles of others.
“The battle between two Demigods?”
An Lan was taken aback.
How were so many people and things related to the Immortal World emerging in the small East Divine Land recently?
She was puzzled.
But her focus was not on that.
She stared intently at Ling Xuan, sensing that the source of this series of events was the little girl.
Is it her presence that’s causing Bai Lian’s Death words to lessen?
If so, wouldn’t letting her stay with Bai Lian completely eliminate the Death words on her?
How wonderful!
By the way, this little girl was also quite lucky. The pillar of fortune that loomed behind her seemed just as strong as the luck of her other three disciples.
Yes, An Lan nodded gently to herself, deciding to accept Ling Xuan as her disciple.
It was no trouble for her—Bai Lian and the rabbit would handle everything.
Wait.
An Lan suddenly frowned. She had just made a decision very arrogantly.
“…”
Ha-ha.
She had walked straight into that hole herself. Looks like she didn’t avoid falling into the same trap twice!
But she couldn’t give in right away. She needed to maintain her “dignity” and make Bai Lian beg her “in a low voice.”
An Lan returned to the bed and waved her hand.
“If you have nothing else, go back. I need to rest.”
Her words directly hit Bai Lian’s soft spot.
Go?
There was no way she was going to leave now.
She immediately stepped forward.
“Master.”
As soon as she spoke, a new task appeared before her.
[Task 1: Try every means to get Master An Lan to accept Ling Xuan as her disciple (Reward: Soft Skill +1)]
[Task 2: Retreat in order to advance. Say with a smile, “Shifu, I plan to take Ling Xuan as my disciple.” (Reward: Alchemy +1)]
[Task 3: Nod and say, “I’ll go back first.” (Reward: Cooking +1)]
The rewards for these three tasks were not dangerous.
In fact, they were easy to understand. After all, it was just about accepting a disciple. Even if An Lan refused, it wouldn’t lead to a bad outcome.
But there was something unsettling about this task.
So far, most of the tasks Bai Lian had encountered had a dangerous option.
It was rare for all options to guarantee a +1 reward.
Even in those “helping others” tasks, there was always a chance of earning herbs or minerals.
If everything went smoothly, it meant there was something more going on.
Bai Lian became cautious.
“Huh?”
Seeing that Bai Lian hadn’t spoken, An Lan stared at her.
Is she trying to figure out how to beg me?
Interesting.
In fact, An Lan’s requirements weren’t high. She just wanted Bai Lian to lie down on the bed and let her take her frustration out by beating her.
An Lan had never apologized to anyone in her life!
It was Bai Lian who had taken her first kiss, and Bai Lian didn’t even realize it.
The more An Lan thought about it, the angrier she became.
She was determined that no matter what Bai Lian said, she would refuse, just to make her toss and turn all night in frustration.
Bai Lian hesitated for a while.
She struggled between Task 1 and Task 2, then finally chose Task 2.
The system said that “retreat in order to advance” shouldn’t be a trap, right?
Even if it was a trap, she could always lower her head later. After all, the task wasn’t risky.
So Bai Lian smiled and said,
“I think I am destined for Ling Xuan…”
Then she paused.
“Shifu, I plan to take Ling Xuan as my disciple!”
“No!”
An Lan shouted, startled.
Take her as my disciple…
Eh?
An Lan froze for a moment.
What did Bai Lian just say?
