Chapter 39: There Is Only One Good Person in the World, Bai Lian (3)
“Master Yan Yue.”
Despite Yan Yue’s resistance, Bai Lian stepped forward and grasped her hand.
Like a pair of tongs, she held it tightly.
Very tight, with considerable force behind it.
Though Yan Yue couldn’t break free completely, that didn’t stop her from continuing to speak.
“Sorry, I’m such a waste, someone like me shouldn’t be standing with all of you. I’m scared, I’m really scared, please let me go, White Emperor Bai Lian. Please let me go, do whatever you want to me, I beg you!”
She was very anxious.
But Bai Lian simply wouldn’t let go.
She didn’t care about any systems or protocols – she only knew that if she let go, Yan Yue would likely keep slipping into the abyss in her mind.
That was not a situation she wanted to see.
Ohhh.
Bai Lian sighed deeply.
That’s enough!
She was neither a sect leader nor an elder, yet why did she feel the entire Duxian Sect weighing on her shoulders?
There must be something wrong here!
It’s all this world’s fault.
With this thought, Bai Lian stepped forward decisively.
Yan Yue tried to dodge by bending her body, but with her hand caught, where could she hide?
She struggled – the harder she struggled, the tighter Bai Lian held on.
Bai Lian spread open both arms, like a mother hen embracing her chick, gently enfolding Yan Yue.
Finally, Bai Lian’s right hand wound around Yan Yue’s back, as if trying to draw her into her own body.
To be honest, this kind of embrace was somewhat uncomfortable.
After all, the space was so small but four “balls” were crammed into it.
“Yan Yue!”
Bai Lian called out.
Her voice carried authority.
Yan Yue, held tightly in her embrace, suddenly fell quiet. Even An Lan, who had transformed into a bird, was startled by Bai Lian’s sudden exclamation.
Good.
You never experienced motherly love since childhood, so for now just treat me as your mother.
Bai Lian raised her left hand and gently stroked the back of Yan Yue’s head.
That blue-black hair flowed like a waterfall.
Warm tears rolled down in succession, finally striking Bai Lian’s shoulder.
“Ughhh…”
Yan Yue burst into loud sobbing.
“I’m just a waste, I can’t do anything, I’m just a waste that needs other people’s help for everything!”
The cries pierced Bai Lian’s heart like ice.
She continued patting Yan Yue’s back. “Don’t be afraid, Mom is here. Whatever it is, you can tell Mom.”
Yan Yue’s eyes brimmed with tears as she said, “I’m just a worthless piece of trash!”
Bai Lian said, “You’re not.”
“I am.”
“I said no, so no it is.”
“I am!”
“No.”
Bai Lian was arguing with Yan Yue meaninglessly.
She had thought Yan Yue would feel better after crying it out, but she was wrong in the end.
Yan Yue’s condition grew worse and worse, her body even going limp.
Could it be an internal demon causing trouble?
But Bai Lian had never heard of Yan Yue being troubled by an internal demon before this.
Bai Lian began to feel disheartened.
Why hasn’t Shifu arrived yet?
Was she going to keep holding onto Yan Yue like this until the end of time?
She wasn’t unwilling to do so.
But she didn’t want to take advantage of someone in such a vulnerable state.
Wouldn’t that make her just like the “Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian” in the game?
Rise up, Master Yan Yue!
Right now.
On the grass.
An Lan, in her bird form, swayed in the evening breeze.
She had already put away the hammer and scissors she held.
She had wanted to severely punish Yan Yue, but seeing her cry like a child made it impossible to bring herself to do it.
That was from long, long ago.
Back then, Yan Yue truly was a child.
Seven years old.
Though she was a small cultivator, a child was still a child; no amount of strength could change that nature.
November 20th.
Heavy snow.
An Lan had been so stifled that day that she lay down for a morning nap on the bamboo bed.
The door suddenly swung open while she slept.
An Lan knew the person who sneaked in was little Yan Yue, wrapped up like a dumpling.
“Daddy said I should be closer to Sister An Lan.”
Little Yan Yue rubbed her rosy cheeks, then tip-toed to the bedside.
She thought An Lan hadn’t noticed her actions.
She secretly lifted the quilt and slipped in beside An Lan.
The outcome was naturally not good.
As soon as little Yan Yue fell asleep, An Lan hung her from the beam.
“Wah!”
Yan Yue woke up crying.
“I dare not, I dare not do this again.”
An Lan merely grumbled coldly.
December 9th.
In the competition hosted by Yan Xiyi, An Lan made Little Yan Yue cry after the child had secretly trained hard for several months, wanting to prove herself to her Sister An Lan.
“Just you?”
Little Yan Yue desperately wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry, I’m just a waste, I’m sorry…”
That sobbing still echoed in An Lan’s ears.
Without realizing it, four hundred and eighty-one years had passed.
An Lan lowered her gaze to her own hands.
“Is it all my fault?”
A sudden tumult of emotions filled her heart.
She simply didn’t want to become entangled with others, nor involve others because of herself.
Why?
“Yan Yue, Yan Yue?”
At that moment, Bai Lian’s voice echoed through the wasteland.
An Lan quickly raised her head.
She saw Yan Yue sleeping against Bai Lian’s shoulder.
Now is…
“It’s four o’clock!”
It’s time.
Bai Lian’s expression grew solemn.
It was the crucial moment – she couldn’t afford to be overly cautious.
“I apologize, Master Yan Yue!”
Bai Lian swiftly found a place to set up camp, and after deploying a magic array, she extended her Divine Sense into Yan Yue’s soul.
She needed to see with her own eyes what kind of dream this was.
“Wait!”
An Lan reached out her hand.
She wanted to stop Bai Lian, not wanting her to discover how “despicable” she had once been as a master.
She was afraid, trembling softly.
It was so cold.
But…
She couldn’t intervene.
“There must be a way.”
An Lan paced in place.
Finally, she left behind a clone and hastily flew to where the earth Qi of Silver Frost Valley was most intense.
