Chapter 38: Jealousy Made An Lan Angry (3)
Just as An Lan furiously stomped on a tree branch to vent her frustrations, Bai Lian finally arrived before Yan Yue.
“This mirror has the ability to foretell the future,” Bai Lian explained to Yan Yue and the Blood Tree Patriarch.
Since they couldn’t unravel the current dilemma, Bai Lian proposed an alternative approach.
“Look to the future! Perhaps there will be clues hidden there that can guide us.”
She fixed an encouraging gaze on Yan Yue.
—
Testing the Future Mirror
Yan Yue hesitated. Could this mirror expose the deepest thoughts buried in her heart?
An Lan, overhearing from her hidden vantage point, sighed in relief.
So, it’s just about the mirror.
Misunderstanding cleared!
She turned to leave but froze after taking a single step.
No, I’ll keep watching.
With such matters, where emotions deepen over time, she needed to be sure.
Yan Yue eventually reached out and touched the Future Mirror.
The mirror’s surface rippled like water before calming, then began to display images, much like a computer screen.
—
The First Vision
Bai Lian exhaled in relief. She had worried that Yan Yue might smash the mirror, but thankfully, the scenes it displayed were coherent and not chaotic, unlike the fragmented futures described by the eldest princess.
The Blood Tree Patriarch leaned in eagerly to see.
Yan Yue’s expression turned strange as she watched the scene unfold.
In the mirror, she was lying on a creaky bamboo bed. To her left sat a cup of some unknown drink, and in her hands was a bag of roasted peanuts.
She tossed a peanut into the air, opened her mouth, and caught it.
Crunch!
She repeated the action, casually sipping from the cup between bites.
Bai Lian blinked, confused.
Is this… raising pigs?
The Yan Yue in the mirror looked noticeably rounder—almost chubby.
No way. She’s at the Transcendency Stage. Can cultivators even gain weight?
Before Bai Lian could process what she saw, Yan Yue quickly dispersed the image.
—
The Second Vision
But the mirror wasn’t done.
A new scene emerged, this one much more ominous.
The Blood Tree Patriarch stood beneath a dark sky, trembling. Its bark began to crack, piece by piece. A gust of wind swept through, followed by roaring flames erupting from within its body.
The fire grew fiercer, painting the night sky in shades of fiery red.
Bai Lian’s heart sank.
This… is foretelling the Blood Tree Patriarch’s failure to pass the Guafeng Disaster.
This wasn’t a scenario she remembered from the game. In most storylines, the Blood Tree Patriarch remained by Yan Yue’s side, facing little adversity. It never reached the Transmigration Stage and ultimately perished along with the East Divine Land during An Lan’s foe’s descent.
—
Denial
Bai Lian retrieved the Future Mirror as Yan Yue clung to her shoulder.
“Fake, that must be fake, right?” Yan Yue’s voice wavered, desperation in her eyes.
“Yes…” Bai Lian began to respond.
But before she could finish, new words appeared on the mirror:
“I never give fake…”
Damn it!
Bai Lian smashed the mirror with a single punch and pointed to the word “fake.”
“See? It admitted it was fake. The mirror must be broken.”
Yan Yue lowered her head, unconvinced.
The forest fell silent, save for the eerie wail of the evening breeze.
—
Regret
Bai Lian regretted her actions. She should have been more decisive earlier.
Avoiding the problem wouldn’t solve anything. If she had involved An Lan from the start, things might not have escalated to this point.
“Master Yan…” she started.
Yan Yue shook her head.
“Let’s leave it for now,” she said firmly.
Bai Lian had no choice but to comply. She returned to Qiongming Peak, her mind preoccupied with the Guafeng Disaster.
Even if the other members of the Duxian Sect wanted to help, their resources were limited. Magic Treasures, Medicinal Pills, and Arrays would do little to assist in this dire situation.
It seems I have no choice but to ask Master An Lan for help.
—
An Lan’s Plans
An Lan, who had been silently trailing Bai Lian, heard everything.
“It’s just the Guafeng Disaster,” she muttered dismissively.
She wasn’t worried. She had many ways to help the Blood Tree Patriarch overcome it.
But she couldn’t act too quickly.
She wanted Bai Lian to come to her first, to kneel and beg for assistance.
“Master, please help me! I’ll do anything you ask!”
An Lan smirked at the thought.
Wait.
Her smirk vanished.
Bai Lian’s begging would be for Yan Yue’s sake?
She clenched her fists.
Am I just a matchmaker now, bringing Bai Lian and Yan Yue closer together?
Her frustration grew, but she soon realized a bigger problem: Bai Lian might not even come to her.
Bai Lian didn’t know she was the Immortal Heavenly Lord, nor was she aware of An Lan’s capabilities.
This… won’t do.
An Lan decided she would subtly hint at Bai Lian later. She also needed to reassert her authority—remind Bai Lian that no matter how strong she became, she must remain obedient to her master.
—
Yan Yue’s Bold Move
As An Lan returned to her cave, she noticed something alarming.
Yan Yue had entered Bai Lian’s room.
“This bitch!”
Yan Yue spoke to Bai Lian, persuading her to accompany her. Together, they left for Silver Frost Valley.
An Lan’s blood boiled.
“Do you even care about your master anymore, you rebellious disciple?!”
She spun in place, fuming, then rushed off after them.
