Chapter 38: Jealousy Made An Lan Angry (1)
The night is a monster that devours people.
Especially for the “children” who have been hurt.
Not everyone’s night is accompanied by an Ultraman who stands up to defeat monsters.
Most of the time, the wounded child curls up in the pitch-black night, licking their wounds while waiting for the darkness to pass.
Unfortunately…
Most of the time, these children don’t live to see dawn silently pierce the night.
The world of the heart cannot be understood through common sense. Without intervention, the black curtain would remain unbroken, and the light might never descend.

Yan Yue’s Nightmare
According to the Blood Tree Patriarch, Yan Yue’s tormenting nightmare began two months ago.
At the time, Yan Yue had led a group of disciples to Silver Frost Valley on orders from the sect leader for a trial.
Initially, everything was normal.
Yan Yue was as lazy as ever, delegating most of the responsibilities to herself and the attendants accompanying them.
But the good times didn’t last.
One night, in the wasteland, Yan Yue fell asleep on her seven-stringed lyre. From that moment onward, she changed.
Her once energetic demeanor disappeared. She became lethargic, her eyes heavy, and yawned endlessly as she trudged along.

The Blood Tree Patriarch grew wary.
It couldn’t stand idly by while its “sister” deteriorated. It immediately asked Yan Yue what had happened.
Her response was dismissive:
“It’s nothing. You don’t need to worry!”
The Blood Tree Patriarch nodded silently, though it didn’t believe a word of it.
But what could it do? It couldn’t tie up Yan Yue with its vines and force her to talk—it wasn’t a pervert!
Everyone has secrets, and protecting them is instinctive.
Seeing that Yan Yue’s condition wasn’t critical, the Blood Tree Patriarch let it go.
“I regret it now. Very much!”
Its rough bark face twisted into a pitiful grimace as it lamented in front of Bai Lian.
Yan Yue, sitting sullenly to the side, no longer tried to stop the Blood Tree Patriarch from speaking. She seemed to have resigned herself to fate.
—
“What Happened Afterwards?”
Bai Lian asked curiously, “What happened afterward?”
The Blood Tree Patriarch continued, “This is exactly what I’m going to say next.”
Not long after returning from Silver Frost Valley, Yan Yue’s condition worsened.
She was downcast every day. Even seeing her disciples misbehave failed to rouse her temper.
Zhuyan Peak fell into chaos.
The Blood Tree Patriarch couldn’t ignore it any longer.
Since Yan Yue wouldn’t speak, it decided to seek help from Jue Yunzi.
Jue Yunzi, the Elder Martial Brother of this generation, bore great responsibility. While he and Yan Yue hadn’t been particularly close in their youth, he had always shown care for her—after all, she was Yan Xiyi’s daughter.
Yet whenever Jue Yunzi tried to help, An Lan always found a way to intervene.
Whether it was “breaking through to a new realm” or “spouting strange lines before laughing away,” An Lan consistently thwarted him.
When the Blood Tree Patriarch mentioned finding Jue Yunzi, Yan Yue immediately stopped it and reluctantly confessed her problem.
She was plagued by nightmares.
—
A Nightmare Without End
Yan Yue revealed that every night, she fell asleep around four in the morning, no matter what she was doing.
Each time, the nightmare began.
It was vivid, intricate, and seemingly endless—its plot twisting and turning. After two months, the nightmare still hadn’t concluded.
Under its weight, Yan Yue grew more despondent. Her days were filled with sighs and groans.
The Blood Tree Patriarch sighed, shaking its head.
“I’ve checked carefully. Her soul shows no signs of damage, nor did I find evidence of anyone scheming against her.”
Unfortunately, it had little knowledge of the soul, and the only person stronger than it in the Duxian Sect, Jue Yunzi, wasn’t much better.
If this continued, Yan Yue would be beyond saving.
The Blood Tree Patriarch could only pin its hopes on Bai Lian.
Not only was she a “reincarnated Immortal Emperor,” but she had also healed the broken-hearted Qing Luan.
“Please, White Emperor Bai Lian!”
Bai Lian nodded. She understood the gravity of the situation.
—
Clues from Silver Frost Valley
She asked, “Could this be related to Silver Frost Valley?”
The Blood Tree Patriarch replied, “I suspected that as well. I personally investigated the valley but found nothing unusual. The most powerful demon cultivator there was at the Golden Core Stage. I even reviewed its history—there haven’t been any suspicious incidents there in the past five thousand years.”
“And before that?”
“It was once a great peak, but a battle reduced it to a deep valley with a stream.”
Bai Lian pondered. She knew her limitations.
Her medical skills had recently improved to 12 points, but they were only suitable for treating common ailments—not extracting someone from a nightmare.
“Let’s do this!”
She lightly tapped her palm, formulating a plan:
“For external matters, rely on Special Effects; for internal matters, ask An Lan!”
—
Yan Yue’s Outburst
Bai Lian stood to leave. “I’ll go find my master right away.”
The Blood Tree Patriarch readily agreed. Many hands make light work. If one person couldn’t help Yan Yue, perhaps more could.
But as Bai Lian took her first step forward, Yan Yue suddenly shrieked.
“Uh-oh!”
She leapt to her feet, her face flushed, her body taut, and her legs pressed tightly together.
“No!”
Her voice was frantic. “Anyone but An Lan!”
Yan Yue dashed forward, pressing down on Bai Lian.
Bai Lian froze.
“Does she want to eat me?”
A task list appeared before her:
Task 1: Stand firm. “Master Yan, it is unwise to reject treatment!” (Reward: +2 Soft Skill)
Task 2: Relent. “I won’t involve An Lan.” (Reward: Secret Medicine – Freedom Wren Tweets Gaily)
Bai Lian hesitated.
Task 1 was straightforward, but Task 2 offered an intriguing reward—a Level 4 Secret Medicine, comparable to a top-tier magic tool, capable of bringing joy.
“Do I need this?” Bai Lian wondered.
