Chapter 36: First Time for Me! (2)
With the master’s personality, if she were to see such a scene, she would definitely teach her a lesson.
Bai Lian decided to take control of the situation.
She walked straight to the stone table and sat down, as if she hadn’t noticed An Lan’s embarrassment.
“Master.”
“Hmm.”
An Lan let out a faint sound, barely audible.
“A woman claiming to be a disciple of Xianyuan Emperor just came to see me.”
“I know.”
“She invited me to join her in search of the Immortal Heavenly Lord.”
“I know.”
An Lan’s voice was void of emotion, almost mechanical, as if she could only say “I know.”
Bai Lian pretended to have noticed nothing.
“I thought about it for a long time, but in the end, I agreed to go with her.”
“I know.”
“At first, I wanted to refuse emphatically, because from what I heard from the Green Dragon’s Skeleton, Xianyuan Emperor is not a bad person!”
Bai Lian decisively shifted all the blame to Yao Xia Bay’s Green Dragon Skeleton. After all, that pile of bones was scattered now, so even if An Lan wanted to investigate, there would be nothing to find. It was a clever move!
An Lan, still bound in the blanket, lifted her head with a serious expression.
The Xianyuan Emperor?
He had created the Heavenly Court and enlisted the Witch Queen, among others, to invade the Rainbow State, causing turmoil for more than a decade. The death toll was immeasurable. If An Lan had been stronger back then, she would have already torn the Xianyuan Emperor apart.
Bai Lian continued,
“The Green Dragon Skeleton told me that even though the Immortal Heavenly Lord has a very bad temper…”
An Lan’s eyes instantly sharpened.
“Compared to Xianyuan Emperor and Green Moon Sword Venerable, she is as kind as a living Bodhisattva!”
An Lan’s gaze softened once again.
Well said!
In her life, An Lan never flattered anyone. Xianyuan Emperor didn’t even have the qualification to lick her feet! The “demonic leader” of the BiYue Sword Sect, who followed the killing path, was even worse. No normal person could view someone who found joy in murder as a positive character.
Green Dragon, huh?
An Lan narrowed her eyes.
Not bad.
It seemed the Green Dragon had passed the right message to Bai Lian!
An Lan mentally took note of the Green Dragon’s accomplishments in her own notebook.
Bai Lian sighed.
“Master, you also know that I’ve always respected those who possess a sense of justice and chivalry. The Immortal Heavenly Lord is a hero of all time, and my respect for her is like an endless river of water…”
She carefully chose only positive words to praise.
“If possible, I would love to meet the Immortal Heavenly Lord in person and express my admiration for her!”
I’m right here lying in front of you!
Respect? That’s enough if you are more filial to me in the future.
An Lan gave a faint smile, but as she did, she suddenly felt something was off.
Bai Lian didn’t know that she was the Immortal Heavenly Lord.
In Bai Lian’s mind, the Immortal Heavenly Lord was “another woman.”
So her disciple was trying so hard to flatter another woman right in front of her?
What was going on?
An Lan didn’t dare to think further.
You rascal, I was just happy a moment ago!
She fixed her eyes on Bai Lian.
At first, Bai Lian didn’t notice anything unusual. However, when An Lan asked in a sinister voice,
“How do you think I compare to the Immortal Heavenly Lord?”
“???”
Bai Lian was completely stumped by the question. What did she mean? Aren’t you the same person?
However, Bai Lian quickly realized the core of the issue—something was wrong with the master’s gaze!
Then the system options appeared, confirming her suspicions.
[Task 1: “Master, what are you doing? The Immortal Heavenly Lord is a Heavenly Lord, and you are just at the peak of the Transcendency Stage, why think about such things?” (Reward: True Text of Pestilence Postponement)]
[Task 2: Are you testing me? (Reward: Changchun Life Pill)]
[Task 3: “You are all people I admire!” (Reward: Light Skill +2)]
[Task 4: “My master is the most respected person in my life!” (Reward: Flower Arrangement +2)]
Bai Lian glanced at the options from top to bottom.
None of them felt safe!
Yes, she understood.
Choosing Task 1 or Task 2 meant getting beaten up for sure. Task 3 also carried risks—An Lan might think she was being insincere. Why even risk Task 4?
After hesitating for a moment, Bai Lian opted for Task 4.
“My master is the most respected person in my life!”
Upon hearing this, An Lan’s expression softened, but she was still dissatisfied.
Why were you just praising the “Immortal Heavenly Lord” in front of me?
Is it comfortable to do such a thing?
How dare you!
I’ll remember this.
Bai Lian discreetly wiped away a bead of sweat.
(〃>皿<)
She decided that she would never talk about the Immortal Heavenly Lord again!
Want praise? Come and beg me!
To avoid further upsetting An Lan, Bai Lian continued her performance.
“I decided to cooperate with Yue Wuyang temporarily because I thought it would be a way to keep track of her whereabouts…”
Bai Lian briefly explained her reasoning.
An Lan gave a slightly disappointed nod.
She didn’t care much about Bai Lian’s plan. She had been hiding in this cave and didn’t believe Yue Wuyang could find her.
Bai Lian’s explanation worked, though. At least An Lan no longer doubted her.
Reasonable.
In truth, while Bai Lian was speaking, she secretly conducted a light check-up on her. It was so gentle and delicate that Bai Lian had no idea it was happening.
Bai Lian’s soul was pure, almost like the model of a good child.
If Bai Lian were a reincarnated Immortal Emperor, she would be the Heavenly Lord’s reincarnation…
Oh.
She is indeed the Heavenly Lord. Never mind.
An Lan glared at Bai Lian.
“What are you doing talking to me so late at night instead of resting?”
Bai Lian felt speechless.
If she had the power of the Earth Immortal right now, she would hold An Lan down and beat her!
But she didn’t.
She could only continue “bribing” An Lan.
“Master, this is from Yue Wuyang for me.”
She pulled out two bags from her chest—one filled with Immortal Spirit Stones and the other with Immortal Spiritual Herbs.
She carefully placed them at An Lan’s bedside.
At a glance, An Lan knew Bai Lian wasn’t hiding anything. She could feel the genuine filial piety.
Good.
She decided not to punish Bai Lian after falling asleep.
Though she had accepted five disciples, Bai Lian was still the one who pleased her the most.
Bai Lian was the most special one!
An Lan stretched out her hand from under the quilt. Using her Divine Sense, she caused a few low-grade Immortal Spirit Stones to float in the air.
In no time, those Spirit Stones formed a necklace that gently rested in Bai Lian’s palm.
“Take it to the peak of the mountain. It will speed up your cultivation and your Martial Sister’s progress.”
“Thank you, master.”
“I’ll keep the other things for you. If you want them, just come and find me.”
“Yes.”
Bai Lian’s plans were simple.
Her alchemy skills weren’t great, and the Immortal Spiritual Herbs were of no use to her.
As for the Immortal Spirit Stones, she could absorb them, but her Martial Sisters’ strength was still too low. If they had them, not only would they be useless, but they might even be harmful.
She decided to wait until they reached the Soul Changing Stage.
After pacifying An Lan, Bai Lian left the cave and bid her farewell.
The moment she left, An Lan quickly jumped out of the quilt.
She gathered the Spirit Stones and Spiritual Herbs, and outside the bamboo forest, she added a small magic array to detect Bai Lian’s location.
Midnight.
A fierce wind blew in from the wastelands behind Qiongming Peak.
Under the moonlight, the shadows of the bamboo leaves swayed like countless claws in the mud.
An Lan slowly raised her head in the center of the open space.
Actually, she didn’t really enjoy looking at the moon.
It wasn’t that she hated it; it was more of an unexpressed feeling deep in her heart.
But tonight, as she gazed at the moon, she suddenly felt completely clear-headed.
She extended her hand. A faint pink glow flew out from her palm, drifting like a ribbon.
The ribbon brushed through the bamboo grove, and the lifeless bamboo leaves straightened as if they had just been bathed in spring rain.
The ribbon flew farther.
The withered trees regained their green, and the dead flowers bloomed anew.
—
At the summit of Qiongming Peak, Su Youwei, who had been cultivating her sword in front of the window, suddenly stopped her movements.
She ran to the window and stared, astonished, at the withered tree, now sprouting tender buds and branches.
At the peak of Yunluo Peak.
After Jue Yunzi finished organizing the sect’s finances for the previous month, he wandered into the backyard for a quiet stroll. At that very moment, the wild grasses that had once withered stood up one by one. Many buds of white and blue flowers bloomed in an instant, filling the air with a fragrant symphony of blossoms.
On Zhuyan Peak, near the meditation tree, the Blood Tree Patriarch lifted his head as he gently fanned the slumbering Yan Yue. A sudden surge of dreadful vitality emanated from the force that pulsed around him. Under its influence, his body continuously split and reassembled, and the old wounds that had plagued him were miraculously healed. In that moment, he also foresaw the arrival of his Guafeng Disaster.
Still within the bamboo grove, a surge of emotions welled up within An Lan. The moonlight that night shone as brilliantly as it did tonight. She had originally stepped outside simply for a walk, but the allure of the moonlight stirred something inside her, compelling her to wander. The idea, once conceived, grew unstoppable.
After a brief moment of hesitation, she soared through the skies, leaving the Duxian sect behind. With no particular destination in mind, she chose a direction at random. Through the night she flew, passed the breaking dawn, until finally, she arrived in a small town bathed in the soft glow of morning light.
She walked slowly down the quiet street, her steps echoing in the stillness. After a long while, she paused at a fruit stand. In that moment, she felt as though she had traveled through four hundred years of time, bearing the weight of thousands of years of wind and rain. Her restless heart finally found peace.
Clad in a white cloud-patterned long robe, she regained her former elegance. The chaotic hum of the world around her faded like the sound of a distant galloping carriage, and the bustling pedestrians scattered, blending into a dull gray-white backdrop.
In her eyes, the only figure that remained was a fifteen-year-old girl standing helplessly in front of the fruit stand. Her body was marked by words of death, which clung to her like a black lace bodysuit.
Their gazes met. They walked side by side.
“Would you be my disciple and follow me to learn the technique of eternal life?”
Their fate was sealed.
An Lan would always remember that moment. It was her first encounter with Bai Lian. A coincidence so perfect, it felt as if it was destined.
