Chapter 35: An Lan’s Secret (2)
Yue Wuyang’s face turned green.
Why was Bai Lian always bringing this up?
It was obvious Bai Lian was doing it on purpose.
But Yue Wuyang, who feared Bai Lian like a tiger, could only curse her silently in her heart.
“I didn’t come to talk about that,” Yue Wuyang said, her voice tense. “What I want to share is something from before the Immortal Heavenly Lord became a Heavenly Lord.”
“Oh?”
Both Bai Lian and An Lan perked up their ears.
Yue Wuyang sighed. “The Immortal Heavenly Lord’s rise was too fast…”
The Yaoguang Star Lord had attained Demigod-level strength in five thousand years, a feat many would call remarkable. But compared to the Immortal Heavenly Lord, it was nothing.
The Immortal Heavenly Lord had mastered the Eight Great Ways of the Great Tao in under ten thousand years, while most cultivators of that age still lingered in the Earth Immortal Realm.
“Eight Ways of the Great Tao! Eight!”
Yue Wuyang’s voice rose in frustration, as if recounting a humiliating defeat in mahjong.
“Alright, alright. I know it’s eight,” Bai Lian said, pushing Yue Wuyang aside with a chuckle.
Yue Wuyang slowed her pace. “But who would believe there wasn’t something strange about it?”
Bai Lian nodded slightly.
It was true.
The game never explained why An Lan had been killed by her nemesis, nor did it even reveal her foe’s name. Bai Lian didn’t know if these were hidden plotlines or if the game developers had simply omitted the details.
“The Immortal Heavenly Lord holds the secret to crossing to the Other Shore,” Yue Wuyang continued. “With that secret, no matter how terrifying the Immeasurable Disaster, we could safely pass through it!”
Bai Lian stared at Yue Wuyang, her expression unreadable.
She was waiting.
Seeing that An Lan had no intention of showing herself, Bai Lian took the lead. “So you’re here looking for the Immortal Heavenly Lord?”
“That’s right,” Yue Wuyang replied. “Most believe the Immortal Heavenly Lord perished, but my master is certain she’s alive.”
—
Bai Lian remained silent.
None of this had been mentioned in the game.
Could Yue Wuyang’s arrival have inadvertently led her foe to discover An Lan’s whereabouts?
For safety, Bai Lian considered imprisoning Yue Wuyang.
The only problem? She couldn’t beat her.
If An Lan wouldn’t intervene, Bai Lian had no choice but to play along.
“How do you intend to trade with me?” she asked.
—
Yue Wuyang hesitated.
“I want to invite you, White Emperor Bai Lian, to join me in searching for the Immortal Heavenly Lord.”
Bai Lian’s gaze hardened. “If you just needed someone familiar with the East Divine Land, there was no need to come here.”
Yue Wuyang let out a self-deprecating laugh. “As expected, I couldn’t fool the White Emperor.”
She recounted a recent encounter with a sworn enemy, explaining how difficult it would be to complete her search alone.
“White Emperor Bai Lian, don’t you want to take a gamble?”
—
Before regaining her memories of the game, Bai Lian might have eagerly accepted the proposal.
Crossing to the Other Shore? It was an irresistible temptation.
But now?
Her priorities had shifted.
Rather than the Other Shore, she cared more about her Shifu and Martial Sisters.
Still, she didn’t outright reject Yue Wuyang. This was an opportunity to get closer and uncover secrets about An Lan.
Bai Lian lightly tapped the desk. “It’s an interesting proposal.”
—
Yue Wuyang’s eyes filled with anticipation.
An Lan, hidden in the shadows, also waited. She could easily have dealt with Yue Wuyang but chose not to act. It wasn’t the right time. Her true enemy wasn’t Yue Wuyang but the person behind her. She couldn’t risk exposing herself prematurely.
After a moment, Bai Lian spoke gloomily.
“Since this is a trade, you need to name your terms.”
—
Yue Wuyang faltered.
She realized her mistake. This wasn’t about what Bai Lian wanted—it was about what she could offer.
With a sigh, she pulled out a bag of Immortal Spirit Stones and another of Immortal Spiritual Herbs.
She couldn’t bring Immortal Artifacts to the lower realm, but these treasures were more than enough to capture Bai Lian’s attention.
“These should suffice,” Yue Wuyang said.
Bai Lian’s eyes sparkled.
With resources like these, her Martial Sisters could level up far faster than in the game.
A rich woman!
The wealthiest rich woman she had ever encountered!
If she didn’t take full advantage of this, she would be a fool.
Bai Lian calmly collected the treasures. “What do you want from me?”
—
“I need to finish inspecting certain places,” Yue Wuyang said. “After that, we’ll discuss further. If you could provide insight into the division of forces in the East Divine Land, that would be even better.”
“That’s simple.”
Bai Lian handed her a book.
Yue Wuyang accepted it gratefully, but as the scars on her body throbbed painfully, she decided to leave quickly.
Just as she turned to go, Bai Lian called her back.
“Your wound is healing too slowly. Let me take a look.”
A brilliant red flower bloomed in Bai Lian’s palm.
—
Yue Wuyang froze.
A sense of foreboding washed over her. “No need. Don’t trouble yourself.”
Tsk. Bai Lian could only watch as Yue Wuyang hurried off.
—
Flying through the mountains, Yue Wuyang suddenly paused.
“That flower… It looked familiar.”
She shook her head.
“Forget it. It doesn’t matter.”
And with that, Yue Wuyang vanished into the clouds.
