Chapter 30: It Was Done by Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian! (1)
The wind howled,
and the leaves scattered into the dust.
Seeing Bai Lian casually toss the bamboo leaf from her hand, An Lan finally snapped out of her reverie.
She raised her hand instinctively, about to rub her nose, attempting to dispel the sour taste that lingered.
But as soon as she remembered that Bai Lian was right in front of her, she quickly crushed the thought.
As a Master,
she must maintain her dignity!
An Lan crossed her arms, slowly turning her body to face Bai Lian, only revealing her profile.
“I can see that you’re starting to get a bit carried away lately, forgetting your place!” she said with a soft hum.
Her stature and presence, however, made it difficult for her words to command the level of fear she intended.
A few moments passed before she spoke again, not giving Bai Lian a chance to respond.
“Forget it… For the sake of you coming to see me first,” An Lan paused before continuing, “I suppose you must have come for something important. I have something to ask you as well. Come into the cave.”
“Yes,” Bai Lian answered obediently.
She knew it would be overstepping to remove the bamboo leaf from her Master’s forehead, even if she had the urge to do so. Any more affection would certainly provoke her Master’s displeasure.
Then, she would not only face the consequences of a spanking.
Bai Lian followed An Lan into the cave.
Despite the winter chill outside, the cave remained damp and cold.
But Bai Lian didn’t mind.
Here, there was no deception, only the “kind” master and her “obedient” disciple.
Here, she didn’t have to worry about being punished while walking.
Here, she was wrapped tightly by her Master’s presence, even the air she breathed carried the scent of her.
Bai Lian sat down beside the bed, glancing over at the freshly changed white socks hanging by the bedside.
Before she could inspect them further, the socks were swiftly stored into An Lan’s storage ring.
“I…”
“I…”
Both of them attempted to speak, only to bump into each other’s words.
The silence stretched for a moment.
Finally, Bai Lian broke the silence.
She pulled out a fiery red medicinal pill from her chest, still warm and steaming.
[Green Glaze Red Fire Pill.]
This was a reward from her mission in Canglong Garden.
She had originally planned to use it for her own escape.
But since she had no injuries from Canglong Garden, it seemed only fitting to give it to her Master.
“Master, this pill should help with your injury. Please, take it.”
An Lan fell silent for a moment.
The mist rising from the pill blurred her vision.
She had initially wanted to use this opportunity to teach Bai Lian a lesson on “How to Respect Your Master,”
but now it seemed unnecessary.
Bai Lian still remembered her.
“…”
As An Lan hesitated, Bai Lian reached out softly, urging,
“Master, shall I feed it to you? The medicine’s energy will dissipate if it’s exposed to the air for too long.”
Bai Lian didn’t intend to use the moment to put her fingers in An Lan’s mouth.
An Lan snapped out of her thoughts and snatched the medicinal pill from Bai Lian’s hands.
But she didn’t take the medicine.
She wasn’t hurt—why should she eat it?
An Lan, sitting on the bed, spoke calmly,
“I appreciate your kind gesture, but my wound has already healed completely in the few days you’ve been away. I called you here just to inform you of this.”
“Hmm?”
Bai Lian’s expression shifted.
It was as if a door had opened, and a wave of surprise washed over her.
“Really?”
She stood up quickly and reached out as if to stroke An Lan’s head.
But after meeting An Lan’s cold stare, she awkwardly pulled her hand back.
This was her Master, not her Martial Sister.
An Lan’s gaze softened slowly,
and she said,
“If there’s nothing else, go and see your Martial Sisters.”
Her voice sounded a bit flat.
Bai Lian nodded gently.
“Okay.”
Before leaving, she took out the Future Mirror and showed it to An Lan, ensuring that no marks from the Taixuan Taoist Sect were left on the mirror.
After confirming it was in perfect condition, Bai Lian walked away, her steps light and quick.
As she reached the mountain road, An Lan suddenly lay sideways on the bed.
When the candle flickered out, the cave grew dark.
An Lan didn’t bother to remove her clothes or shoes.
She simply held the Green Glaze Red Fire Pill up to the faint light trickling into the cave.
She lifted it higher and higher, until her arm could stretch no further.
And so, An Lan stared blankly at the medicinal pill in her hand.
