Chapter 21: Invincible in the World (1)
Everything changes in an instant!
As the people of the Taixuan Taoist Sect retreated near the cave entrance, the Shadow Guards could no longer hold their ground.
With both sides deadlocked, why not make a move?
The Shadow Guard, worried about his brother, gritted his teeth and was the first to draw his long lance. He was determined to dash forward.
Was the entrance blocked?
No, charge ahead as usual!
As long as he rushed fast enough, there was a chance of escaping.
He couldn’t die here!
The killing intent of the Shadow Guards shot out, connecting together like a savage wind blowing through the icy polar region, scraping painfully against anyone’s face.
It was over.
Before the Taixuan Taoist Sect’s arrival, these Shadow Guards had been fierce, but they hadn’t intended to fight to the death.
Bai Lian had believed that even if she couldn’t defeat them, she could still escape using the Teleportation Scroll.
But now, everything had changed.
The presence of the Taixuan Taoist Sect had pushed the Shadow Guards to the edge of madness.
Run?
The path was sealed. They had no choice but to fight.
Bai Lian even suspected that the Taixuan Taoist Sect was deliberately setting her up to die this way.
Damn it!
Though anxiety gripped her, Bai Lian knew she couldn’t show any weakness.
She couldn’t afford to die here.
With the aid of her glass Heart, she remained composed, masking her internal turmoil.
To her relief, the Shadow Guards didn’t rush recklessly; instead, they dispersed and surrounded her.
After all, their opponent was Bai Lian!
Charging straight at her would be suicidal.
It wasn’t that the Shadow Guards overestimated Bai Lian.
On one hand, her brilliant past feats spoke for themselves.
On the other, Bai Lian’s eyes—those eyes—were terrifying.
Detached.
Indifferent.
She swept the area with a gaze as cold as a winter lake. Despite facing hundreds of enemies, her eyes remained calm, almost serene.
That was the look!
Many of the Shadow Guards recalled the famous rumor:
The White Emperor’s eyes held death.
This seemingly nonsensical phrase was filled with terror.
It was said that anyone who met Bai Lian’s gaze had died.
A death sentence. The tolling bell of doom. The call of the abyss!
She moved.
In an instant, the Shadow Guards noticed that Bai Lian’s ice-cold eyes shifted ever so slightly.
Who was she looking at?
Everyone followed her line of sight, turning to see if it was Kite or the Sansheng Stele fragment behind him.
Before they could make sense of it, Bai Lian was reading the task options that had just appeared.
—
[Task 1: Hold the Dirt Free Sword high in the air with your right hand and shout, “Everybody must die!” (Reward: Renewal of Life)]
[Task 2: Laugh and say, “I have an urgent matter to attend to, I will come to kill you next time!” (Reward: Focus +13)]
[Task 3: Shake your head and say, “I didn’t come here to create endless slaughter. If you choose to retreat now, I will spare you today.” (Reward: Green Glaze Red Flame Pill)]
—
Bai Lian quickly dismissed Task 1.
Renewal of Life?
That would be great… if she had even a bone left to spare.
After seeing that the reward for Task 3 was a healing pill, Bai Lian decisively chose it.
This was the best option.
Minimal risk. Big reward.
She raised her head, her eyes landing on the nearest Shadow Guard.
“…I’ll let you go this time!”
Huh?
The Shadow Guard was stunned.
If he didn’t block her path, he might survive!
Normally, he wouldn’t believe such words from anyone else. But this was Bai Lian.
Whether she was an adversary or an ally, Bai Lian was always trustworthy.
However…
He was a Shadow Guard.
If he backed down now, even if he survived, he would be hunted down by Marquis Wu’an and Kite afterward.
Those two were ruthless. They would never let him go, and he’d never escape death.
No way forward, no way back.
What should he do?
As the Shadow Guard hesitated, someone charged at Bai Lian with a lance.
Kill!
The battle finally erupted.
The lance, like a flying dragon, flew straight for Bai Lian’s face.
It was fast.
So fast that Bai Lian only had time to cross the Dirt Free Sword in front of her chest.
Ping!
Bai Lian was furious.
This young man had actually tried to sneak attack her.
Luckily, she was the Snow Spirit Lord with white hair and blue eyes. In the moment the lance and sword collided, she activated her Qianhuan Real Eyes, pulling the Shadow Guard into an illusion.
Die!
Bai Lian poured all her energy into a devastating strike at the enemy’s chest.
Boom.
When the dust settled, Bai Lian swallowed hard.
The enemy had been much stronger than she anticipated. Her last strike had drained all her strength, barely managing to shatter the enemy’s vital organs.
Damn.
The Shadow Guards, once filled with reverence, couldn’t rush forward to finish her off immediately.
But to Bai Lian’s surprise, those who had already rushed halfway stopped.
A heavy silence fell over Canglong Garden. It was unsettling.
Suddenly, the Shadow Guard who had been concerned for his younger brother understood Bai Lian’s intent.
Months ago, Bai Lian had killed a cultivator at the Transcendency Stage, an event witnessed by Marquis Wu’an himself. It couldn’t have been faked.
How could Bai Lian, now fully recovered, fail to kill a cultivator trapped in an illusion?
The truth became clear.
Bai Lian didn’t want to kill him!
She hadn’t even used her spirit Qi.
This proved that her words earlier were sincere.
If they retreated, they would survive…
Understood!
The Shadow Guard’s eyes suddenly lit up.
His excitement took over as he rushed toward Bai Lian, lance raised high.
He was going to gamble!
But just as he was about to reach her, he found himself trapped in the ice-field illusion.
Bang!
After a brief rest, the Shadow Guard opened his eyes, a deep scar marking his chest.
But it didn’t matter. The important thing was that he was still alive. He had bet correctly.
Ha-ha.
He hadn’t been wrong. Bai Lian hadn’t intended to kill them at all. From the start, her focus had been on Kite.
No wonder people called her a Natural Saint.
Her heart was pure—holy, even.
As he thought this, the Shadow Guard opened his mouth and spat blood.
Since he had to pretend that he couldn’t fight anymore, he might as well play the part.
After spitting up blood, his eyes rolled back, and his limbs twitched, resembling a fish flopping on dry land.
…
Someone “smart” quickly realized something was off.
But…
Wow!
So this was the trick.
Not everyone was willing to die for Kite.
And so, a terrible scene unfolded.
A dozen Shadow Guards rushed toward Bai Lian, fury in their eyes, as if they could devour everything in their path.
But how could Bai Lian, the reincarnated Immortal Emperor, fear them?
She moved with grace, like a limping white butterfly amidst the chaos.
Each time her sword struck, blood spurted, and one more guard fell.
In just ten seconds, Bai Lian had taken down twenty Shadow Guards.
