Chapter 17: Bai Lian Is Not Inferior to Anyone! (1)
Bai Lian stood facing the eldest princess, determination in her eyes.
“It seems there’s something wrong with the mirror,” she remarked.
The mirror had broken shortly after she used it. Who could believe it was truly intact?
Yet, Bai Lian was not disappointed. She had never expected it to be flawless in the first place.
There is no formula for the future.
In this world, powerful cultivators can transcend time itself—erasing history, eradicating past lives, and even killing those who have yet to be born.
Future?
If Bai Lian believed in such things, she would have already succumbed to becoming the wicked character in the game.
After all, in the many futures she saw, she and Master An Lan were bound to meet death.
But her life was meant to defy “fate.”
She would cultivate for thousands of years to achieve her true self!
Bai Lian declared firmly, “The eldest princess, when I return, I’ll try to repair this mirror for you.”
The eldest princess nodded.
In truth, she didn’t care much whether the mirror was working or not. What mattered was something else entirely.
She had possessed the mirror for nearly a decade, yet only now had she learned it could communicate!
Something was wrong.
The eldest princess fixed her gaze on the mirror.
When Bai Lian’s Divine Sense fully withdrew, it felt like time itself reversed, and the cracks on the mirror began to heal.
Pop.
The eldest princess clenched her fist, a blinding white light flashing in the air. She rushed over and grabbed the mirror.
“Were you lying to me?”
The mirror remained silent.
The eldest princess stood still for a moment, seething.
Suddenly, she lifted the mirror and slammed it against the ground.
Bang, bang.
After several seconds, the mirror remained intact, with no new words appearing.
Frustrated, she drew a dagger from beneath her clothing and began hacking at the mirror.
Poop, poop, poop.
After dozens of strikes, she paused, breathing heavily.
With her strength, she could continue for three more days without tiring, yet here she was, helpless.
No matter how hard she tried, the mirror only endured silently, as if the phrase “I’m going to die” had been nothing but an illusion.
Bai Lian hesitated for a moment but leaned over.
She thought there would be a task or some Skill Points involved, but to her disappointment, no such task appeared.
Bai Lian patted the eldest princess on the shoulder. “What’s going on?”
The eldest princess expressed her confusion. She had found the mirror on a rainy evening. Was it just good luck, or was it a part of some larger conspiracy?
“I’ll give it a try,” Bai Lian said, taking the mirror.
Her Divine Sense plunged into the mirror like a sledgehammer.
Suddenly, the mirror, once solid and unmoving, cracked again.
Lines of text flashed across its surface:
[Stop, stop quickly]
[You are too powerful for me]
[Spare my life]
Bai Lian pulled her Divine Sense back slightly, refraining from asking immediately. Instead, she repeatedly entered and withdrew, torturing the mirror with her persistent probing.
After a while, the mirror revealed everything.
By the window of the eldest princess’s room, Bai Lian furrowed her brow.
The mirror had been deliberately given to the eldest princess by the Taixuan Taoist Sect. Would they send someone here to retrieve it?
It had become even more troublesome.
And…
Bai Lian glanced back at the eldest princess.
The true trouble was her.
She had barely pulled herself from the depths of despair, only to fall into another abyss within mere moments.
Even Yu Ying, who had been discontent with the eldest princess, now felt pity for her.
Alas, the eldest princess is terribly unlucky.
Poke.
Yu Ying gently nudged the eldest princess’s cheek with the sword hilt in a gesture of encouragement.
“The world gives me a knife, so I can take revenge with hope!”
“I’m fine,” the eldest princess said, shaking her head.
She was lost, overwhelmed by the truth. It felt as if something had struck her, and the world went black.
But when her hand touched Bai Lian’s in the darkness, her confused heart immediately calmed.
Her hands were cold, but her heart was warmed.
She had lost so much, but at least Bai Lian was with her now.
That was enough.
She gently grasped the Yu Ying Sword, a silent gesture of thanks.
