Chapter 13: Bai Lian Is Nothing!
Tianyi City, the capital of Heluo Country, is one of the largest cities in the northwest corner of the East Divine Land. This vast city is the result of centuries of tireless expansion by successive emperors of Heluo Country.
From a distance, the city appears to be just another urban landscape, but up close, it is a microcosm unto itself—a world of its own. This city can sustain a population of ten million people.
Once again, Bai Lian has arrived in Tianyi City, her perspective broadened with more insights. As she walks through the city, the bricks and tiles of the outer walls, beneath the expansive blue sky, merge seamlessly with the magic array. The last time she passed through here, she felt the weight of responsibility on her shoulders. Even cultivators at the Migration Stage would likely struggle to breach the formidable magic array surrounding Tianyi City.
“God’s will is too high to ask,” Bai Lian murmured, recalling a poem. It is said that Tianyi City’s name derives from this very verse. Legend has it that the founding emperor of Heluo Country once dreamed of uniting the world—a vision that now seems almost quaint, lost to time.
Though the founding emperor sought world domination, waging wars and toppling dozens of countries, he was ultimately defeated by the leader of the Taixuan Taoist Sect in the Battle of Mount Damang.
“The will of heaven? Just so-so!” Bai Lian scoffed under her breath, mocking the ambition that had once consumed the emperor. “If you follow the will of heaven, I will rise above it!”
The emperor’s ambition, his life’s work, was incinerated under the fiery methods of the sect leader’s Taixuan Chopping Path. Years later, Heluo Country became prosperous once again, but it still had not managed to conquer the Taixuan Taoist Sect.
With a sigh, Bai Lian entered the city gates, accompanied by the fourth Martial Sister.
Suddenly, Bai Lian felt something break—an invisible barrier, imperceptible to the eye, as if she had crossed from one world into another. She could feel the change, as if the air had become warmer and more alive, far removed from the cold exterior of the city.
The bustle of the city surged around her like a crashing wave. People hawked goods in the streets, children played, and vendors shouted, their voices blending into a cacophony.
“Cakes! Cakes!”
“Grandpa, let me help you push it!”
“The Yuexiang Pavilion is hosting a poetry meeting. It’s said Miss Pingru is brilliant at poetry—her skills are renowned! We’re lucky to witness her poetry battles with these scholars!”
“Out of the way! Get out of the way!”
The noise threatened to overwhelm her, but Bai Lian merely pursed her lips. She had grown accustomed to the peaceful, isolated life on Qiongming Peak. This sudden onslaught of humanity was jarring.
At that moment, Yu Ying, now her sword, flared with warmth, as if responding to her unease.
Bai Lian understood immediately. This place, this city, was a painful reminder for the fourth Martial Sister.
“Let’s visit the nearby teahouses, taverns, and inns to gather information,” Bai Lian suggested. “People’s spiritual lives are often nourished after their material needs are met. And here, where there is demand, there is always a market.”
Tianyi City was a hub of entertainment—listening to books, watching dramas, and witnessing acrobatics were among the most popular activities, and also some of the best ways to collect news.
However, to Bai Lian’s disappointment, she found nothing useful after wandering the city for hours.
“Aha! Canglong Garden! I’ve heard of it,” one vendor remarked. “There’s a Green Dragon Sect nearby. You looking for a man? Those strong guys, they’re the best.”
Yu Ying’s anger flared, her sword visibly trembling as though it wanted to strike the man down for such insolence.
“Who dares to speak so to Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian?” she fumed. “Anyone who dares to think like that will be the enemy of Qiongming Peak!”
Bai Lian, with a slight chuckle, stepped away from the vulgar house. Her only hope now rested with the eldest princess, who might possess some useful information.
A sigh escaped her lips. How would she repay the princess for this favor?
Dressed in a blue robe, Bai Lian appeared like a handsome swordsman. She reached the eldest princess’s residence outside the imperial city, only to find herself being watched by many hidden eyes.
A guard at the door, his gaze fixed, asked coldly, “What is your business here?”
Bai Lian immediately noticed new task options:
Task 1: Admit you are Bai Lian. (Reward: the spell – Zhengqi Formula)
Task 2: Make up a random identity and claim you are here to visit the eldest princess. (Reward: Focus+2)
Task 3: Leave immediately. (Reward: Soft Skill+1)
Bai Lian could not simply walk away. After all, she had yet to gather any useful information about Canglong Garden. But revealing her identity outright felt inappropriate.
She decided on Task 2.
“I have always been friendly with the eldest princess,” she said with grace. “I passed through Heluo Country and thought I might visit her.”
The guard responded stiffly, “Unfortunately, the eldest princess is not in the mansion today.”
“When will she return?” Bai Lian inquired.
“I do not know,” the guard replied.
Bai Lian was disappointed. Why hadn’t the princess responded to her message? Was she playing games?
No, no. She is the eldest princess, after all.
The guard offered, “You can leave your name. When the eldest princess returns, I will inform her.”
“No need,” Bai Lian replied, shaking her head. She was confident that with her cultivation level, if the eldest princess were here, she would have sensed her presence immediately.
She decided to wait.
Bai Lian then withdrew a jade slip and sent a message to the eldest princess.
Turning to the anxious fourth Martial Sister, she reassured her, “Though we haven’t found any useful information yet, don’t worry. I’m 90% sure the developments will follow the course I expected.”
Her smile was serene, as though nothing could escape her control.
Of course, Bai Lian was simply reassuring her Martial Sister. In truth, she wasn’t even 10% sure of anything at the moment.
In the game, the accident at Canglong Garden had been caused by Marquis Wu’an breaking the ancient magic array surrounding it—but that wouldn’t happen for several more years.
No, Bai Lian was certain it had nothing to do with that.
If Emperor Xu Pan and Marquis Wu’an had the ability to break the array, why would they have delayed for so long?
The Yu Ying sword grew warm again, responding to Bai Lian’s touch. She smiled gently, stroking its hilt.
“Good girl.”
“If this road is blocked, I’ll carve my own path!” she whispered, stepping forward.
Meanwhile, in the Canglong Garden, rain poured heavily. Kite, after consulting with Marquis Wu’an, received news from Tianyi City and burst into laughter.
“The eldest princess is so foolish. Does she think we will be fooled by such a simple disguise?” he mocked.
His tone was dismissive. “Bai Lian is nothing! We don’t need to concern ourselves with her.”
Marquis Wu’an, ever the calm one, remained unaffected, his expression unreadable. “Do not underestimate her. June Snow reported that Bai Lian claimed she was 90% sure she had uncovered everything.”
Kite dismissed it. “She’s just bluffing.”
Marquis Wu’an, with his cold voice, warned, “Always exercise caution. Bai Lian is not as simple as you think. She may be plotting something in secret.”
His mind churned, remembering the immense losses he had suffered at the hands of the Duxian Sect. He couldn’t afford to repeat that mistake.
“She’s a reincarnated Immortal Emperor. Her methods of disguise cannot be so easily seen through by Tianyi City’s magic array,” he reasoned, deep in thought. “She must have planned this intentionally!”
Kite scoffed. “You really think she’s trying to warn us?”
“No,” Marquis Wu’an grunted in denial. “I won’t be intimidated. I am destined for greatness. Even an Immortal Emperor can’t stop me.”
Kite shook his head. He didn’t believe such nonsense, but his position as deputy commander forced him to remain silent in the face of Wu’an’s cold confidence.
“Should we kill Bai Lian?” Kite suggested. “She’s caused a lot of trouble in the East Wilderness, but her true strength is probably just at the Transmigration Stage.”
Marquis Wu’an shook his head. “Not yet. Her strength in the East Wilderness was only a temporary surge. But who knows? She may have more hidden power.”
“After the Saint Casting Plan succeeds, we will take care of her,” Wu’an added.
Kite nodded. “I’ll have Morning Glory and Wu Zhuyu send someone to watch her.”
“But for now,” Wu’an said, his voice low and firm, “we must focus on the Taixuan Taoist Sect. They are the real threat.”
As the rain poured, Marquis Wu’an stood before the cliff, exuding an air of authority.
“When the Gate of All Living Beings is completed, I’ll personally make Bai Lian experience endless rebirth with the Life and
When the Gate of All Living Beings is completed, he must personally use the Life and Death Wheel of Longevity to bring Bai Lian into endless rebirth, so that she would die in endless pain!
When the Gate of All Living Beings is completed, I will personally make Bai Lian experience endless rebirth with the Life and Death Wheel of Longevity.
She will be trapped in an eternal cycle, suffering death after death, enduring endless pain.
