Chapter 7: I Can Be Your Mother! (1)
In interpersonal communication, “reading the room” is a vital skill.
It helps you determine when to step forward and when to step back.
While walking, Bai Lian noticed something unusual.
The cave felt uncharacteristically hot. The pool in the corner was brimming with moisture, saturating the air with humidity.
At first glance, it seemed like the temperature control magic array had malfunctioned.
But…
Bai Lian’s gaze shifted to An Lan’s face.
Shifu was smiling!
Shifu didn’t always wear a stoic expression, but even when she smiled, it was usually restrained.
Her usual smile was subtle—her eyebrows and eyes remained still, the corners of her mouth barely lifted, and her teeth were never exposed.
But today, Shifu’s demeanor was completely off.
Her smile looked a little out of control—wild and unrestrained.
It was as though a different person had taken her place.
Her white teeth gleamed like fresh snow, and her eyes curved into lively crescents.
In short, it was… adorable!
But calling An Lan “cute” felt absurd to Bai Lian.
This was the Immortal Heavenly Lord! How could someone of her stature be described as cute?
Bai Lian felt a shiver of unease.
When something appears out of the ordinary, there’s always a reason.
She slowed her steps ever so slightly.
Suddenly, the system interface popped up before her.
[Task:1 It’s not safe to stay here. Turn around and run away.
Reward: Broken Jade Flying Scripture.]
[Task: 2 “Shifu, you’re still injured. You should teach me later.”
Reward: Slim Cloud Wand (a best-grade magic tool).]
[Task:3 “I respect my master and value morality. How could I disobey her?!”
Reward: Golden Wind and Jade Dew.]
The situation was dire. [* dire means extremely serious or urgent.]
The Broken Jade Flying Scripture was slightly less valuable than a top-grade Spirit Tool. Considering Bai Lian’s current strength, it would be incredibly risky to handle this situation without using her Qianhuan Real Eye.
Without hesitation, she chose Task 3.
The reward—a powerful healing medicine—was invaluable. Stockpiling such resources was always a wise decision.
Besides, the system wasn’t wrong. Bai Lian truly respected her master and valued her sense of morality!
“Master.”
Bai Lian stood obediently before An Lan, her expression composed and deferential.
An Lan nodded in satisfaction.
Her eldest disciple was still as dependable as ever.
An Lan had meticulously prepared for this moment. She had repaired the damaged magic array shield earlier, reinforcing it with her spirit Qi. To ensure complete privacy, she had also added an additional layer of spirit Qi to seal the cave entirely.
Hum!
How dare you think about running after entering my cave?
If you even try, I’ll cut off your head!
An Lan was seething with irritation. She said sharply, “Hold out your hand.”
“Yes, Shifu.”
Bai Lian obediently extended her right hand.
An Lan reached out and gently pinched her middle finger.
For a moment, she was distracted. Was this the hand that had done something inappropriate earlier?
It felt cold—too cold. Even An Lan, who was usually indifferent to such things, found it unpleasant.
How annoying.
She glared at Bai Lian’s hand. I should just chop it off!
An Lan raised her right hand high.
Gather strength. Aim. Boom!
I’ll teach you a lesson, you disobedient disciple who sneaks around doing questionable things!
Pa. Pa. Pa.
The sound was rhythmic, like a deadly chant.
It was supposed to be a powerful strike, yet when her hand finally descended, An Lan held back most of her strength. Instead of a harsh punishment, she merely slapped Bai Lian’s palm with her small hand.

“Eh?”
Bai Lian was utterly baffled.
What exactly was her Shifu trying to do?
First, she grabbed her finger and kneaded it like dough. Then, without warning, she started smacking her palm.
But the strangest part was that Shifu wasn’t even hitting hard.
It sounded dramatic enough, but the actual strikes were lighter than a cat brushing its paws against her skin.
Is this… a new spell?
No way, right? No way!
Bai Lian almost wanted to shout, “Shifu, could you at least hit harder?!”
After a while, An Lan finally let go of Bai Lian’s hand.
She remained sitting cross-legged, her arms folded tightly across her chest. After shifting slightly, she turned her body away from Bai Lian, clearly frustrated.
Her irritation had only grown worse after her so-called punishment.
She wasn’t just angry with Bai Lian—she was also angry with herself.
But no matter how upset she was, the memory of Bai Lian trekking all the way to the Snow Sea to retrieve the Immortal Spirit Stone for her kept surfacing.
Her heart softened against her will.
How pathetic.
I can’t even properly discipline my own disciple. No wonder I failed in my battle against that enemy.
She began to wonder if the so-called “accident” she suffered wasn’t just an unfortunate twist of fate.
An Lan sighed deeply. Regret bubbled to the surface.
If only I hadn’t taken Su Youwei as my disciple.
Without Su Youwei, the internal demon wouldn’t have come into existence. Without the internal demon, Bai Lian wouldn’t have been led astray.
Damn it.
She needed to find a solution—a practical one.
Suddenly, she pointed at Bai Lian and commanded, “Punch me!”
“Punch… you?”
Bai Lian’s thoughts raced.
She couldn’t forget the last time she had accidentally punched Shifu across the room. That had somehow escalated into an awkward fight, which then ended with Shifu inexplicably giving her a first kiss.
