Chapter 5: I’m Willing to Be Addicted to Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian! (2)
The internal demon turned her head away.
Do you hate me this much?
Bai Lian was taken aback.
But what had she done wrong?
As far as she could recall, nothing bad had happened between them. When Shifu was injured, she and the internal demon had gotten along just fine. After that, she had left the Duxian Sect.
Wait, I understand!
A flash of realization struck Bai Lian.
To save her, the internal demon had rushed out with all her heart. Yet, Bai Lian had been completely focused on An Lan and hadn’t said a word to the internal demon afterward.
Shifu was injured, and the internal demon might have been hurt too.
In such a situation, it was only natural for the internal demon to feel dissatisfied with “Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian.”
Bai Lian pinched her thigh in frustration. She had vowed to care for every Martial Sister of the Qiongming Peak, ensuring they would never experience the tragedies of the game. And yet, she had failed.
What a terrible mistake! What a sinful woman I am!
Without hesitation, Bai Lian apologized.
“Younger Martial Sister, I’m sorry. I ignored you, and now you hate me. I know words alone aren’t enough, so I’ll show you my sincerity through my actions!”
“I don’t hate you!”
The internal demon blurted out, only to quickly cover her mouth. Why was she talking to this illusion?
Bai Lian shook her head.
“I understand. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have ignored you back then.”
She shared her thoughts with the internal demon.
“This is on me. But don’t hurt yourself because of me. Youwei is worried about you—she asked me to persuade you. Please go and talk to her later.”
Bai Lian gently released the internal demon, sensing that continuing to hold her would be inappropriate.
The internal demon remained curled up.
Could I be mistaken? Is this Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian the real Bai Lian?
If so, had she made Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian feel guilty?
She had vowed to protect Bai Lian, who had saved her from a sea of killing.
But now…
The internal demon felt even more distressed.
Whatever the case, I should apologize first.
“No, Elder Martial Sister, this isn’t your fault.”
She wrapped her arms around Bai Lian’s waist and said,
“The reason I’m hiding here has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s all my fault.”
The internal demon began to confess her worries.
She feared losing her sense of self and becoming a burden to Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian.
And she blamed herself deeply.
“There are always illusions in front of my eyes… in which I do terrible things to everyone.”
The internal demon looked up, her red eyes brimming with tears.
Bai Lian asked in surprise, “What kind of illusions?”
“Well…”
The internal demon hesitated, turning her head away.
It was too humiliating to reveal the nature of these illusions to Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian.
When Bai Lian pressed her gently again, the internal demon finally chose a few of the less horrifying ones to share.
Bai Lian’s eyes widened.
If she remembered correctly, weren’t all these scenes from the game?
And not just one—they were from entirely different storylines.
How can the internal demon see these images?
Bai Lian was bewildered.
Why does this world exist in the way it does?
She realized she had underestimated its complexities.
But first, she needed to comfort the internal demon. After all, the root of the issue lay with that “Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian” from the game.
“They aren’t real,” Bai Lian said gently. “Even if they were, it’s not your fault. I’m the one who hurt you first.”
The internal demon looked at Bai Lian earnestly. “No, Elder Martial Sister could never do such a thing!”
Bai Lian felt a pang of guilt.
Though she hadn’t committed any wrongs in this world, she couldn’t forget her actions in the game.
There, she had done all kinds of terrible things.
Even when her Martial Sisters cried out in pain, she had ignored them, single-mindedly “charging” toward the “endgame.”
Maybe it was this lingering guilt that had driven her to want to help her Martial Sisters after meeting them in this world.
Bai Lian fell silent.
The internal demon also remained quiet.
After a long pause, the internal demon shyly looked up and asked,
“Elder Martial Sister, is… is it really fun to do those kinds of things?”
“What kind of things?” Bai Lian asked, startled back to reality.
A new task appeared before her eyes:
[Task 1: Pretend you didn’t hear anything. (Reward: a secret medicine – Jade Oven Ice Mat)]
[Task 2: Leave immediately. (Reward: a high-grade magic tool – Sky Monkey)]
Bai Lian froze, unsure of what to choose.
Before she could decide, the system automatically selected Task 1.
“It’s…” Bai Lian began hesitantly.
The internal demon suddenly grabbed Bai Lian’s hand and held it close to her.
In the internal demon’s soul world, it was as if “white clouds” floated above a trembling “volcano,” one that seemed ready to erupt at any moment.
Bai Lian froze.
The internal demon froze as well.
Though it had been a simple gesture, the internal demon now understood why she had acted that way in her illusions.
No wonder Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian often said, “Practice leads to true knowledge!”
This feeling was like a bottle of poison.
A poison named Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian.
And she wanted to drink it.
The internal demon felt as though she were melting.
“Elder Martial Sister,” she whispered, her voice trembling, “I want…”
She wanted to merge with Bai Lian completely.
But just then, the world began to change.
The Ten Thousand Poison Pearl shook violently, as though it were about to shatter.
Bai Lian’s expression turned serious. She quickly pulled her hand away and gently patted the internal demon’s head.
“Stay here. I’ll go see what’s happening outside.”
“Oh…”
The internal demon lowered her head, her cheeks burning with shame.
The memory of what had just happened made her wish she could bury herself in the ground.
Bai Lian hurriedly left the Ten Thousand Poison Pearl.
Once outside, she realized the entire Qiongming Peak was shaking.
The *commotion had not only alarmed the other Martial Sisters but also everyone else in the Duxian Sect.
[*a state of confused and noisy disturbance.]
