Chapter 3: Bai Lian’s Taste (2)
Bai Lian grabbed An Lan’s middle finger.
“…”
An Lan recoiled like a frightened rabbit.
“Let me help you put it in the box,” she said, deliberately avoiding Bai Lian’s gaze. She sealed half of the Immortal Spirit Stone into a box and pushed it firmly against Bai Lian’s chest.
Bai Lian took the box and put it away. Glancing up, she noticed that An Lan had threaded a dragon tendon through the other half of the Immortal Spirit Stone, turning it into a pendant that now rested against her chest.
When Bai Lian thought about it, she realized that the Immortal Spirit Stones they carried were now positioned in the same place. Her mood lifted instantly.
An Lan rose from Bai Lian’s side, looking refreshed and showing no trace of her earlier injuries.
“That tree is looking for you,” she said. “If you don’t have anything else to do, go on. I’m going to rest.”
“Yes.” Bai Lian got out of bed and straightened her rumpled clothes. Although the process had been a little awkward, Master had still accepted her gesture of kindness. That was enough.
She left Master’s cave with a spring in her step.
The cave quickly fell silent again.
An Lan sat cross-legged on the bed. The lingering scent of Bai Lian filled the room. After Bai Lian had rolled around on her sheets, the fragrance had grown stronger.
When she closed her eyes, An Lan could almost imagine being held in Bai Lian’s arms. It was so warm. So comforting.
In the darkness, a distant memory stirred—a sensation she hadn’t felt in a long time. Was it déjà vu? Or a glimpse of a past life she had forgotten?
An Lan shifted uneasily. She hated not being in control, and this unfamiliar feeling of uncertainty unsettled her.
This is annoying.
She opened her eyes, noticing a faint glimmer on her index finger. It was sweat. If she remembered correctly, she had accidentally wiped it off Bai Lian earlier.
The droplet of sweat reflected the candlelight, sparkling like a gem. Oddly enough, she found herself more fascinated by this than the Immortal Spirit Stone pendant hanging around her neck.
Can this really bring joy?
She doubted it. Yet, driven by curiosity, she decided to find out.
An Lan suddenly ducked under the quilt, pulling it completely over herself. Hidden away, she felt safer.
A soft white glow emanated from her palm, lighting up the darkness beneath the covers. She didn’t do anything—just watched the light quietly.
And as she did, a strange sensation washed over her.
To be precise, it was the unique smell that stirred strange memories.
Boom.
An Lan suddenly found herself in a white world.
The world was originally empty.
There was neither chaos nor existence.
No rules. No life.
After what felt like an eternity, a familiar voice echoed.
“An Lan~”
An Lan jolted awake. She realized her index finger was pressed against her lips.
Oh no, I’m a pervert too!
Then she thought, That’s fine. A perverted disciple and a perverted master—it’s a perfect match.
With that comforting thought, An Lan lay back down, pulled the quilt over herself, and quickly drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, outside the cave, Bai Lian encountered the jade rabbit wandering through the bamboo forest.
The autumn wind lifted the edges of her clothes as she bent down to scoop the jade rabbit into her arms from behind. Stroking its head gently, she said,
“Jade Rabbit, with that Immortal Spirit Stone, Shifu will recover soon!”
“Haw haw!”
The jade rabbit kicked its legs a few times before finally giving up its struggle. Still, confusion clouded its eyes.
Why were you both in bed when you gave her the Immortal Spirit Stone? The world of adults is really complicated!
“Let’s go meet the Blood Tree Patriarch,” Bai Lian said, heading toward the cold pool at the back of the mountain.
When they arrived, Bai Lian eventually put the jade rabbit down because the Blood Tree Patriarch wanted to discuss something else: the relationship between Yan Yue and An Lan.
It seemed An Lan’s unexpected injury had softened Yan Yue’s attitude. Though brief, there was a moment when Yan Yue’s hostility seemed to fade.
She used to refer to An Lan as “bitch,” but now she simply called her “that woman.”
“Thank you!”
Bai Lian responded humbly, “It’s what I should do.”
The Blood Tree Patriarch, pleased, gave Bai Lian a generous supply of medicinal pills.
“Don’t tell Yan Yue I stole them from her room,” the Patriarch added.
“…”
Got it. I understand!
Bai Lian shook hands with one of the Blood Tree Patriarch’s extended branches and bid him farewell.
Now, it was time for a new round of night classes!
