Chapter 28: Because She Is Bai Lian! (1)
The sun dipped toward the western horizon.
When Yu Niang disappeared from his sight, Gu Jiu felt himself plunging into boundless darkness once again.
He could barely breathe.
It had been so long. He had lost count of how many times he had lost his sister.
The process differed, but the outcome was always the same.
He was trapped in that recurring nightmare, a torment that refused to let him go.
He wandered through the nightmare like a lone wolf, isolated and aimless.
When night fell, he would curl up in a cave, holding his breath to evade the fiercer beasts lurking in the shadows of this dark world.
He longed for dawn, hoping it might shatter the darkness and free him from the nightmare.
But whenever the sun rose, it only revealed that he was still trapped, still wandering aimlessly like a homeless, wandering soul.
Wasn’t that his reality?
He had no home—not since the nightmare began.
Why had his life turned out this way?
Gu Jiu desperately wanted an answer. Perhaps, if he could find it, he might finally wake from this torment.
So he began to run.
The road ahead seemed endless. He knew he might collapse before reaching its end.
But that didn’t matter.
He crossed mountains and glaciers.
Whenever exhaustion threatened to consume him, a mysterious strength welled up from deep within, pushing him forward.
Fueled by this strength, he traveled thousands of miles until, at last, he caught up to the figure he thought was Yu Niang.
“Yu Niang!”
Gu Jiu reached out his trembling right hand.
Was this the answer he had been seeking?
He stood there, trembling, hesitant to speak. Though words fought to escape his lips, he ultimately remained silent.
But as he observed the figure more closely, something felt off.
Though the silhouette was strikingly similar, the clothes didn’t match anything Yu Niang would wear.
When the little fox turned around, the smile on Gu Jiu’s face froze completely.
It wasn’t Yu Niang.
This was a stranger he didn’t know.
Just as he could never escape his nightmare, the answer he sought would never appear before him.
In that moment, Gu Jiu seemed utterly defeated.
He glanced around, realizing he had emerged from the endless snowfield.
Now, he stood in a vibrant, lush land filled with colorful birds, fragrant flowers, and verdant trees.
In the distant sky, Bai Lian—who had beaten him to the ground like a mangled dog not long ago—was ruthlessly destroying the terrifying Blood Demons.
Gu Jiu lowered his gaze.
In his hand, he held his Heart Reading Sword.
The sword felt as cold as ever, its surface smooth and unmarred by any cracks.
“But…”
Hadn’t Bai Lian shattered the Heart Reading Sword?
Gu Jiu was consumed by confusion.
The sudden silence offered the little fox a moment of relief.
After Bai Lian had explained everything earlier, the little fox didn’t know how to face Gu Jiu.
Gu Jiu was her savior—she owed him her gratitude.
But Gu Jiu wasn’t a good person. He indiscriminately slaughtered innocent magical beasts and projected his pain onto others.
If her brother were still alive, Gu Jiu wouldn’t have spared him either. After all, her brother was a fox demon.
Perhaps it was for the best.
Though the atmosphere between them was tense and strange, at least she didn’t have to figure out how to interact with him right now.
…
Time crept by slowly.
In the sky, Bai Lian’s expression grew increasingly grave.
Half a quarter of an hour ago, she had been beating these Blood Demons to death.
Each time she killed one, she recited phrases like, “How lonely invincible is,” “Bai Lian looks like a great Immortal Emperor,” “I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body, and fire is my blood…” and so on.
But half a quarter of an hour later, Bai Lian panicked.
Her nose wrinkled slightly, and her eyes widened as she stared at the crack she had widened.
It’s over!
Bai Lian was so worried that she felt a headache coming on.
She had punched deep into the small world, and no Blood Demon could withstand her heavy strikes.
The problem was, there were just too many Blood Demons.
For every thousand she killed, another thousand appeared.
How many offspring have these Blood Demons had in the past ten thousand years?
Bai Lian’s lips turned pale.
There’s no way.
She’s dying!
These Blood Demons are far too “enthusiastic.” Even if she were made of iron, she couldn’t withstand the endless fights. Eventually, they would slowly wear her down and kill her.
If this goes on, once her Dragon Qi runs out, she’ll be devoured by these ferocious Blood Demons.
“Should I withdraw now?” Bai Lian wondered.
But when she remembered the words, “Younger Martial Sister, I will return soon,” that she had said to the Fifth Martial Sister before leaving, she felt a pang of depression.
If the Fifth Martial Sister found out she was retreating, what would she think?
If she had known, she wouldn’t have come here.
She didn’t want to leave a bad impression on the Fifth Martial Sister.
Sigh.
She’s really a terrible woman.
Bai Lian felt a bit ashamed. What Natural Saint? She couldn’t even consider herself a hero.
Now, she had no choice but to gamble on one last attempt.
Bai Lian gritted her teeth.
Although she felt a little tired…
Do it again, Bai Lian!
Show your tenacious spirit, move forward bravely, hit the end, and let the most explosive force of the Green Dragon Qi break out in the depths of the small world!
If she was lucky, she might be able to kill all the Blood Demons there.
Even if she couldn’t kill them all, scaring them into hiding would work just as well.
In that case, she could wait for the people from Thousand Sword City to come and clean up the mess.
If that didn’t work…
Then she’d run.
“I’ll go and cure my Shifu, and then bring her back to kill you!”
In the end, there’s hope as long as she lives.
If she dies, everything will have been in vain.
“Let’s get started!”
Bai Lian took a deep breath.
Boom!
The Dragon Qi surrounding her body suddenly surged as if she had taken some magical elixir.
It roared.
It burned.
It burst forth from Bai Lian’s body like a long, straight lance.
At that moment, the sky above the East Wilderness was bathed in bright golden yellow.
The previously dazzling blood-red color seemed to melt away in an instant, as though ice and snow had met a blazing furnace.
The light in the sky was no ordinary light.
It formed a massive map of the world in the heavens.
With the help of the Dragon Qi, Bai Lian soared into the air. She resembled a goddess stepping onto the waters of the East, her presence majestic!
People from Thousand Sword City paused.
“It’s Bai Lian!”
Bu Qingxiao looked up at Bai Lian, astonished in just a few days.
A female disciple of Thousand Sword City beside her raised her right hand.

“If she is not a Saint, then what is a Saint?”
Her voice was filled with shock, so much so that even her sword seemed nearly bent by the weight of it.
Under their gaze, Bai Lian sped toward the dark crack at the entrance of the small world.
At that moment, she became a beam of light.
Like a falling star, the light plunged into the depths of the small world.
This light set the small world ablaze and illuminated the land of the East Wilderness, which had been sinking into boundless night!
Suddenly, someone murmured, “Is she not afraid?”
Elder Chen Fu appeared and said, “Maybe… but…”
“But?”
“But she’s Bai Lian.”
As soon as those words were spoken, Chen Fu’s figure had already disappeared into the vast darkness.
His voice seemed distant, as if echoing through the mountains.
Although it was not entirely clear, there was a special lingering quality to it that made people ponder endlessly.
Because she’s Bai Lian!
The disciple of Thousand Sword City was deep in thought.
Putting aside the phenomenon, one could see the essence.
At least, so far, Bai Lian had never let down anyone who had expectations of her.
How powerful she is!
