Chapter 23: Yaoguang Star Lord
The world is both absurd and insane.
It is filled with dangers, making Bai Lian feel that she could be killed by a random demon falling from the sky while merely walking along the road.
But it is also brimming with opportunities. A world buried by time might be hidden within the flowers and plants encountered casually by the roadside.
As a result, Bai Lian’s heart is always at odds with itself.
On one hand, she wants to protect An Lan with all her might; on the other hand, she desires to tear down all of An Lan’s pride and trample on it.
Perhaps this is the essence of being human.
Contradictions are an inseparable part of life.
While she was anxious about being entangled in more rumors, Bai Lian was also immensely excited at this moment.
This was a real dragon!
Not some “inferior” creature like a snake dragon.
When she first arrived in this world, she never imagined she would one day ride the Qing Luan Divine Bird and then sit on the back of a green dragon.
I’m a dragon knight!
Bai Lian gazed proudly into the sky, her stance making Ling Xuan feel a twinge of self-consciousness.
Sister Bai Lian is truly incredible, she thought.
I will study diligently under her guidance!
However, Ling Xuan’s admiration was soon diverted by the breathtaking vision created by the green dragon as it soared through the heavens.
The green dragon’s flight across the sky resembled a vibrant green sword slicing through the darkness, leaving behind a glowing “sword mark” in its wake.
This mark was soft yet striking, its beauty almost poetic when viewed from a distance.
As the dragon’s path stirred the winds, the breeze began at the sea and flowed inland to Yao Xia Bay.
Golden particles slowly began to fall from the dragon’s claws and whiskers as it ascended higher into the sky.
“The flowers are blooming!”
The two scholars at Yaotai Pavilion dashed to the edge of the platform.
They stared upward, their mouths agape in amazement.
It wasn’t their fault—what lay before them was simply too extraordinary.
Look!
The spring vines hanging from the Yaotai Pavilion had inexplicably turned lush and green despite the late autumn night.
Yellow flowers, resembling golden chrysanthemums, blossomed quietly.
In an instant, the entire pavilion was suffused with a refreshing fragrance.
One of the scholars approached the fence, extending his hand. A golden speck, soft as a snowflake, gently landed on his palm before melting into his body.
“This is…”
After a brief pause, a look of astonishment crossed the scholar’s face.
A setback that had once seemed insurmountable was now gone. He stood tall once more, stronger than before!
The scholar murmured, “What is this?”
The transformation of the Yaotai Pavilion was astounding, but even more astonishing was the change unfolding across all of Yao Xia Bay.
Under the baptism of golden light, Yao Xia Bay had become a true city that never sleeps.
“It’s broken, it’s finally broken!”
At the Ten Thousand Years Hall, a Qi Refining cultivator in underpants burst out from behind the curtain, screaming with joy.
“Ha ha ha!”
He laughed uncontrollably, like a monkey suddenly tasting freedom.
“Ten years! Ten years!”
After a decade of effort, he had finally broken through the Qi Refining Stage and entered the Foundation Establishment Stage.
Now in his forties, he wasn’t cultivating for immortality—he was doing it to fulfill his obsession.
And now that he had achieved his goal, he couldn’t contain his happiness.
No one mocked him.
It wasn’t because they feared his temper. Most had experienced similar struggles and understood his joy.
Within seconds, more and more people joined the celebratory frenzy.
“I’ve reached the Ninth Floor of the Qi Refining Stage!”
“My leg is healed, and I can run again!”
“The sea of my Divine Sense is stirring. I’m about to be struck by lightning! Yes, yes!”
“Ha ha! The Eagle’s Claw Kung Fu I’ve been practicing for 20 years has finally reached perfection. Amazing!”
The entire city erupted in cheers.
A wave of heat rose from Yao Xia Bay, condensing into a force so immense it rivaled the strongest attack of a Golden Core Stage cultivator, shooting straight toward the moon.
Bai Lian had no time to pay attention to any of this.
Her body was undergoing a dramatic transformation.
The golden light falling from the green dragon’s body could rejuvenate all of Yao Xia Bay. So what about Bai Lian, who was entirely wrapped in the light emanating from the burning dragon skeleton?
Naturally, she grew stronger!
Bai Lian felt as though she were wrapped in something warm and compact. It was so comfortable she nearly let out a charming hum.
This is the power of the dragon!
The spirit Qi in Bai Lian’s body began to flow automatically, as if countless dragons were colliding within her, their roars as loud as thunder.
Her Water Spirit Special Effect and Fu Zhu Special Effect also activated automatically. The water spirit Qi was so powerful that the green dragon seemed to be gliding through a luminous river in the sky.
Wherever the green dragon passed, the seas churned, water columns rose to the heavens, and finally, heavy rain began to pour.
In that moment, Bai Lian’s cultivation base surged rapidly, stopping only when she reached the late stage of the Soul Changing Stage.
One system notification after another appeared:
[Hard Skill +2]
[Light Skill +1]
[…]
When the system finally went silent, Bai Lian checked her basic skills and found they had undergone an earth-shaking transformation:
[Hard Skill: 503]
[Soft Skill: 532]
[Light Skill: 486]
[Focus: 561]
Her body had become so strong that she could now fight an ordinary cultivator at the late stage of the Soul Changing Stage without even using her spirit Qi.
Even without relying on her Qianhuan Real Eyes, Bai Lian no longer feared Gu Jiu’s sharp sword!
What an adventure!
Bai Lian laughed.
If she had gained so many benefits, surely her fifth Martial Sister—being the protagonist—would reap even greater rewards?
She turned back eagerly in the golden light, but what she saw left her stunned.
The fifth Martial Sister hadn’t changed much. Her body merely appeared more solid.
At that moment, Ling Xuan blinked her big, intelligent eyes and gazed at Bai Lian as though she were a fairy.
“…”
Bai Lian was speechless.
What was going on?
Just then, the green dragon flew over Yao Xia Bay.
Through the roaring wind, she heard voices shouting from below.
“It’s Bai Lian! White Emperor Bai Lian is preaching!”
“Brothers, let’s go on a pilgrimage!”
“Ah, is this the water blessed by White Emperor Bai Lian?”
“It’s holy water!”
Damn it!
The sky was so vast—why did the green dragon have to hover over Yao Xia Bay?
Bai Lian seriously suspected it was deliberate.
Under the radiant golden rain, all her disguises were stripped away. Any cultivator with functioning eyes could now see her true appearance.
Her worst fear had come true.
Bai Lian’s expression turned serious.
She followed the green dragon as it soared into the sky. It danced beneath the bright moon, its movements accompanied by Ling Xuan’s cheers.
But this situation didn’t last long.
When the green dragon descended again, Bai Lian felt as though she had broken through an invisible barrier alongside it.
Buzz.
Suddenly, Bai Lian found herself falling. Below her stretched a river of brilliant stars.
At that moment, a voice full of dignity echoed in her ears:
“The [Field] in the corner of your eye—does it belong to the [Yaoguang Field] bestowed by Yaoguang Star Lord?”
Bai Lian understood immediately.
“Are you the green dragon?” she asked.
“Indeed.”
Bai Lian’s chest trembled. The waves rippled, resembling the Milky Way beneath her feet.
The green dragon isn’t dead!
Could its true form reside in the Immortal World?
Maintaining her composure, Bai Lian replied, “I’m not entirely sure, but I believe this ★ in the corner of my eye has some connection to Yaoguang Star Lord.”
The green dragon’s voice resounded again.
“I didn’t fully understand it either, but after seeing your heart, I realized it aligns closely with the choices Yaoguang Star Lord would make.”
Huh?
Bai Lian raised her head in confusion.
The choice Yaoguang Star Lord would make? What do you mean?
The green dragon replied, “Your heart is like a mirror, unstained by dust.”
Crap.
Of course, it was her Glass Heart, a reward from the system. Even the most malevolent forces hidden within top immortal tools couldn’t corrupt it.
The green dragon continued, “What I did just now was a gesture of gratitude to Yaoguang Star Lord.”
So you really did it on purpose?
Please give me a break… Don’t be such a meddlesome dragon!
Bai Lian felt a surge of frustration.
The green dragon quickly added, “You don’t need to thank me, just thank Yaoguang Star Lord!”
“…”
Bai Lian was speechless.
Seriously, could you be a little less kind? I can’t afford this much generosity. I just want to do something good—why does it have to be so difficult?
With a sigh, Bai Lian asked, “Is Yaoguang Star Lord doing well now?”
After all, Yaoguang Star Lord was the ancestor of the jade rabbit. Bai Lian couldn’t help but feel curious.
The green dragon replied, “I don’t know. I haven’t seen Yaoguang Star Lord for thousands of years. Perhaps you should ask her yourself.”
Ask her in person?
You must be kidding. Where would I even find Yaoguang Star Lord?
But before Bai Lian could voice her doubts, the green dragon disappeared abruptly, as if its connection had been severed. No matter how much she called out, there was no response.
Not long after, Bai Lian realized she was finally descending.
She landed gently on the Milky Way, her toes barely touching the sparkling water.
“This is…”
Bai Lian looked around.
There was a river of stars, fishing boats drifting idly, black earth stretching into the distance, and a laurel tree standing tall.
Isn’t this the scene I saw near the laurel tree in the Flying Fog?
Her heart skipped a beat.
With a mix of nervousness and curiosity, she stepped lightly onto the water. As she circled halfway around the laurel tree, a white rabbit with long, pale-blue ears came into view.
The rabbit sat quietly, gazing up at the celestial river in the sky like a statue.
“The jade rabbit?”
No. That wasn’t right.
The overwhelming sense of timelessness radiating from the rabbit was far beyond anything the jade rabbit could possess.
This must be the real Yaoguang Star Lord!
Bai Lian watched as Yaoguang Star Lord turned her head.
Their gazes met, like stars in the sky meeting their reflections in the water at the horizon’s edge.
Their shared gaze seemed to transcend time itself.
Then, a sigh broke the silence.
A long, melancholic sigh escaped from Yaoguang Star Lord’s lips.
In her eyes, Bai Lian saw pain and pity, emotions so raw and profound that they left her feeling utterly overwhelmed.
Bai Lian vividly remembered Yaoguang Star Lord averting her gaze the last time they met.
Suddenly, something extraordinary occurred.
Under a soft green glow, Bai Lian watched in astonishment as Yaoguang Star Lord transformed. She became a lovely girl in a blue dress, her rabbit ears drooping gently and her snow-white hair glistening.
Boom!
It felt as though something had exploded in Bai Lian’s mind.
Isn’t this… the jade rabbit’s human form from her inner world?
Bai Lian had always thought the jade rabbit and Yaoguang Star Lord looked somewhat alike, but she had dismissed it, thinking all rabbits shared similar features.
But this resemblance—this was far too uncanny.
There had to be a connection between them.
As her thoughts raced, Bai Lian noticed Yaoguang Star Lord suddenly running toward her.
She was fast.
After all, she was a rabbit.
Thud. Hug.
But Yaoguang Star Lord’s body passed straight through Bai Lian.
They could not truly connect.
Bai Lian stared at Yaoguang Star Lord’s retreating figure as she walked farther and farther away.
Bai Lian called out, “What is your relationship with the jade rabbit? Is she your reincarnation?”
Yaoguang Star Lord didn’t respond. She continued walking toward the point where the sea met the sky, disappearing into the horizon.
Bai Lian’s world began to collapse.
As the stars fell and the waters evaporated, chaos enveloped her vision.
When everything finally returned to normal, Bai Lian found herself high above the clouds, following the green dragon.
Looking down, she saw the small, dust-laden Yao Xia Bay far below.
Her heart surged with lofty determination.
Exactly—
The mountains and rivers are all within my sight, and the world is as vast as my Dharma body!
I just need to grow stronger. If I am strong enough, I will uncover the truth about the relationship between the jade rabbit and Yaoguang Star Lord!
Bai Lian clenched her fist.
Turning around, she saw a harsh blood-red curtain rising in the eastern sky.
