Chapter 21: Invite White Emperor Bai Lian! (1)
After washing Bai Lian’s back, Ling Xuan played with her in the hot spring pool.
“Splash—”
“Poof, poof, poof!”
“Ah, Sister Bai Lian, you hurt me.”
“Alright, I’ll be more careful.”
The white mist surrounding the pool veiled the scene within.
On this chilly autumn night, it felt as if a small, warm flame had been kindled.
When Bai Lian emerged from the pool, holding Ling Xuan’s hand, the maid waiting by the door looked at her shyly before quickly averting her gaze.
“Thank you for your patronage, honored guests,” the maid said timidly.
Bai Lian smiled and nodded.
She noticed the maid’s nervous demeanor but thought nothing of it.
Quite normal!
After all, the maid was only at the Seventh Floor of the Qi Refining Stage. It was natural for someone of her level to feel anxious in the presence of a Soul Changing Stage cultivator.
Bai Lian glanced at herself.
How time flies!
Unconsciously, she had grown so powerful. She remembered the days when she was just a weak cultivator at the Foundation Establishment Stage, struggling to piece together memories from the game.
“Anyway, we’re not in a hurry. Let’s check out the night market at Yao Xia Bay,” Bai Lian said, patting Ling Xuan’s head.
“Hm!” Ling Xuan nodded enthusiastically.
Soaking in the hot spring together had brought them much closer.
The two walked out of the Ten Thousand Years Hall with light steps.
“Phew…”
The maid let out a deep breath.
Hearing the peculiar noises from inside earlier, she had feared Bai Lian might summon her to “explore the mysteries of the human body.”
Cultivators at Bai Lian’s level were often eccentric, and even the smallest misstep could annoy them. Keeping a safe distance was usually the best option.
Not bad!
This “pervert” had finally left!
The nearest place to the stars is Xingluo Fortress.
The nearest place to the moon is Yao Xia Bay.
But Yao Xia Bay is at its most breathtaking when the moon rises over the sea.
A full moon occupied half the sky.
The moonlight rippled, shimmering in the cool night air.
If one were to describe this beauty in terms of art, it might resemble the scene at Yaoye Bay in Gujian3.
(Translator’s note: Gujian3 is a Chinese cultivation-themed game. It’s available on Steam if you’re interested.)
It was already midnight.
The moon illuminated the heavens, casting its glow across Yao Xia Bay.
But the bay hadn’t succumbed to slumber; this was a city that never slept.
Long time no see!
Walking amidst the bustling crowd, Bai Lian’s system beeped repeatedly, as though it had just consumed a vial of secret medicine. New tasks popped up one after another.
“Wait for me!”
After kneeling to fix Ling Xuan’s windblown hair, Bai Lian dived headfirst into the great work of earning skill points.
Ling Xuan looked up at the sky.
The moonlight was unusually bright that night.
She watched as Bai Lian unloaded goods for laborers at the port, cared for a man’s ailing wife, and dealt a swift lesson to a blackguard causing trouble in a wine shop.
The scene left Ling Xuan in awe.
“They’re right,” she murmured. “Sister Bai Lian really is a fairy!”
When Bai Lian returned under the moonlight, Ling Xuan ran to her excitedly.
“Sister Bai Lian, hold out your hand!”
“Hm?”
Although puzzled, Bai Lian extended her hand.
Ling Xuan eagerly used a carbon stick she had just purchased to write two “正” characters on Bai Lian’s wrist.
It’s just like the rumors! Ling Xuan thought excitedly.
“This…” Bai Lian’s expression became a bit awkward as she looked at the characters.
Ling Xuan hesitated. “Does Sister Bai Lian not like it?”
Bai Lian shook her head quickly. “No, no.”
She silently chastised herself for letting her mind wander into inappropriate thoughts.
Ling Xuan suggested, “Sister Bai Lian, if you don’t want to dirty your body, I can write the characters on mine instead.”
“Forget it,” Bai Lian said, stopping her at once. “It’s fine to write them on me. But…”
She paused before adding, “There’s really no need to dwell on these things. I only did what I did because I happened to have the ability to do so.”
Ling Xuan appeared thoughtful.
By now, it was almost morning. Bai Lian retrieved the map from the snake dragon. After confirming the location of Yaotai Pavilion, she led Ling Xuan toward it.
The Green Dragon Relic was located in Yao Xia Bay, but gaining access wasn’t easy—it existed in a separate space.
Bai Lian currently lacked the power to tear open the fabric of space and pinpoint the relic within the chaotic flow of dimensions.
Therefore, she had to rely on the method provided by the snake dragon:
The Ceremony of Inviting Immortals!
The Green Dragon, one of the four celestial spirits, was said to have godlike powers. Some even claimed it created 500 million heavens. However, these claims were unsubstantiated. Even the Green Dragon known as “Primordial Dragon” was merely an Immortal Emperor.
While it could create worlds, these were only small, imperfect worlds lacking the complete laws of the Great Tao.
In her previous life, An Lan had shattered hundreds of such small worlds. If the Primordial Dragon was a Creator God, then An Lan could only be called the Goddess of Darkness and Destruction!
Bai Lian was certain that this relic wasn’t connected to the true Primordial Dragon. That relic was tied to her fourth Martial Sister, Yu Ying, and would only appear after Yu Ying passed the Primordial Dragon’s trial.
Yaotai Pavilion stood atop a cliff, offering a panoramic view of Yao Xia Bay.
Even though dawn was approaching, many people were still lingering in the area.
To avoid drawing attention, Bai Lian set up a magic array after confirming the location.
She then placed the ritual materials she had purchased en route to Yaotai Pavilion on the ground.
The moment she placed the final piece of copper, a pentagonal golden light appeared, radiating from Yaotai Pavilion.
The light ascended into the sky, illuminating a series of mysterious symbols that floated in the air.
Buzz—
As Bai Lian infused her spiritual Qi into the array, the symbols began to glow one by one.
The orange light connected to form a path that extended toward the silver sea in the distance.
“Ah!” Ling Xuan exclaimed.
Bai Lian had led her past the wooden fence of Yaotai Pavilion and into open space.
Panicking, Ling Xuan grabbed Bai Lian’s legs tightly, clinging to her thigh.
“…”
Bai Lian cleared her throat and reassured her. “Don’t worry, Younger Martial Sister. You won’t fall.”
Ling Xuan cautiously tested the invisible platform beneath her feet. After realizing she could indeed stand on it, she blushed.
“Oh, I made a mistake,” she murmured, releasing Bai Lian’s thigh.
Glancing at the other tourists in Yaotai Pavilion, Ling Xuan was surprised to see that none of them seemed to notice her. Even two scholars nearby, who were looking in her direction, were merely engrossed in reciting poetry.
“They must be good friends,” Ling Xuan remarked with a sigh of relief.
Since no one mocked her timid behavior, she quickly set her embarrassment aside and followed Bai Lian along the path of glowing orange symbols.
Step by step, they traversed the sky over Yao Xia Bay, walked through the moon’s shimmering reflection on the sea, and finally passed through a gate arched by white clouds.
Buzz!
With a burst of energy, a massive, invisible gate above the sea swung open. The orange symbols dissolved into the air, and the magic array Bai Lian had created vanished without a trace.
Yao Xia Bay appeared unchanged. The people there continued their activities as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
On the other side of the gate, however, Bai Lian and Ling Xuan found themselves in a strange space filled with enormous skeletons.
Looking up, Ling Xuan saw countless pale ribs extending into the sky.
“Is this… a dragon?” Ling Xuan asked in astonishment.
Since following Bai Lian, she had encountered countless wonders, each more awe-inspiring than the last.
“Probably,” Bai Lian replied with a serious nod.
Even after thousands of years, faint spiritual Qi still lingered around the ancient skeleton.
