Chapter 2: The Master Is Affectionate and the Disciple Is Dutiful (2)
Just as An Lan was about to sit up, Bai Lian suddenly extended her hand. One hand rested gently on her shoulder, the other on her arm.
“Master, be careful,” Bai Lian said softly.
An Lan stiffened. She resisted the urge to slap Bai Lian’s hand away.
Calm down. She’s just helping me sit up. This is normal.
“What time is it? How long have I been sleeping?”
Leaning against the wooden railing, An Lan tried to appear as if she had only just woken up.
“Shifu, it’s 9 o’clock now,” Bai Lian replied.
“Oh,” An Lan nodded gravely. “I must have slept for seven hours.”
The weight of that statement tugged at Bai Lian’s heart.
An Lan, whose cultivation base was at the peak of the Transcendency Stage, had no need for sleep under normal circumstances. Yet, now she had slept for seven full hours—and seemed so disoriented that she couldn’t even discern the time on her own.
“Shifu, I’m sorry. It was all my fault!”
Bai Lian lowered her head, biting her lip. This time, she wasn’t pretending.
Huh?
An Lan blinked in surprise.
Why is she suddenly apologizing?
“Master.”
At that moment, Bai Lian reached into her chest and pulled out a small, exquisite box. Holding it carefully in her left hand, she presented it to An Lan.
An Lan’s gaze fell on the delicate metal box, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.
What’s that?
A faint sense of foreboding crept over her. Whatever was inside, she had a feeling it was going to be something extraordinary. Her heartbeat quickened involuntarily.
It’s finally time.
Bai Lian let out a quiet sigh, her expression full of resolve.
Inside the box lay the Immortal Spirit Stone, a treasure capable of postponing An Lan’s declining period for a full hundred years.
A hundred years.
That was enough time for everyone on Qiongming Peak to mature and grow stronger. By then, even if Shifu faced another period of decline, her disciples would have the strength to help her overcome it.
Bai Lian’s right hand rested gently on the box as she spoke.
“Master, please accept this.”
With utmost care, she opened the box.
The moment the lid lifted, a dazzling white light burst forth, enveloping An Lan’s face in brilliance.
Wow! A golden legendary!
When the box was fully opened, An Lan’s eyes lit up as she gazed at the crystal-clear Immortal Spirit Stone resting on the cork inside, gleaming like a star diamond.
She had known that Bai Lian was out searching for something to help heal her, but she never expected her to bring back a top-grade Immortal Spirit Stone.
No wonder Bai Lian seemed to have more “Death” words surrounding her lately!
An Lan tentatively placed her small hand on the Immortal Spirit Stone.
It’s warm…
The warmth felt oddly familiar, as though it carried the temperature of Bai Lian’s body.
After a long hesitation, she pushed the Immortal Spirit Stone back toward Bai Lian.
“I don’t want it. Keep it for yourself.”
“What?!” Bai Lian exclaimed, panicked.
“Master, I found this for you. You must accept it!”
She firmly extended the box toward An Lan again.
An Lan’s face turned cold. “I don’t want it. It’s useless to me!”
It’s just an Immortal Spirit Stone. If she could break through with it, she would have done so long ago. She didn’t need to rely on such things.
Push.
And push again.
Bai Lian, refusing to back down, immediately shoved it back into her Shifu’s hands.
An Lan’s irritation spiked.
What’s wrong with this child? Why doesn’t she listen to her Shifu’s words?!
This time, An Lan pushed the box hard, slamming it against Bai Lian’s chest with all her might. She even pressed it tightly with both hands.
“Take it away! Use it for yourself!”
Her annoyance was palpable.
Why are you so disobedient?!
Determined, Bai Lian pushed An Lan back onto the bed.
“Master, open your mouth!” she demanded.
If you’re sick, you need treatment.
To keep An Lan from resisting, Bai Lian pressed her legs against her Shifu’s thighs, pinning her down.
How dare you!
A fiery anger ignited within An Lan. She pushed aside the lingering feelings of guilt and tenderness from earlier.
Bai Lian had changed. She had become a disobedient and brazen disciple—bold enough to bully her own master!
When Bai Lian managed to press the Immortal Spirit Stone into An Lan’s body, An Lan retaliated by jabbing a finger into Bai Lian’s stomach.
The sudden jab left Bai Lian reeling, and she collapsed onto the bed. Before she could recover, An Lan seized the opportunity to climb onto Bai Lian’s waist and pin her down forcefully.
“Rebel!” An Lan barked.
She grabbed the box and slammed it back onto Bai Lian’s chest with enough force to flatten even her “peaks.”
“Ah.” Bai Lian winced.
I’m still your master!
Suddenly, a small voice echoed from the cave entrance.
“Haw haw?”
An Lan froze.
Her head whipped around, and there stood the jade rabbit on its hind legs, huddled against the wall. Its forepaws and ears were raised high in alarm, its wide eyes filled with confusion and fear.
An Lan’s face darkened.
…This isn’t what it looks like!
