Chapter 15: You Are Possessed! (2)
But her strength was still not as mysterious as Bai Lian’s spirit Qi.
When Ling Xuan regained consciousness, she found herself behind Bai Lian, enclosed by a protective barrier made of a flowing water curtain.
“Hey!”
Ling Xuan pounded on the water curtain forcefully, but her voice couldn’t break through.
Bai Lian, standing ahead, took a step forward.
The swordsman, sensing Bai Lian’s spirit Qi, gave a slight nod. “Two opponents? Not much of a challenge.”
The snake dragon glared at him in silence.
Bai Lian waved her hand dismissively. “This is between him and me. You’d best stay out of it.”
“Huh?”
The snake dragon was momentarily stunned.
Even the swordsman cracked a faint smile, intrigued by the prospect of witnessing Bai Lian’s true strength.
The wind ceased.
The rain paused.
The clouds parted.
It was a brief calm, the ominous prelude to a greater storm.
Just as the swordsman prepared to attack, two streams of light streaked across the distant sky. They revealed two young women—one clad in black, the other in white.
The woman in white carried a sword at her waist.
Bai Lian asked, “Are you from Thousand Sword City?”
The swordsman responded with calm affirmation, “Yes.”
“No wonder,” Bai Lian remarked, comprehension dawning on her face. “There are few normal people in Thousand Sword City!”
In this world, many cultivate swords. Yet only one sect trains themselves as true Sword Persons—the residents of Thousand Sword City.
It’s said that the city’s founder fell in love with a sword. Instead of transforming the sword into a woman, as most might, he devised a cultivation method that allowed him to merge with the sword itself.
The tale was odd, even by Bai Lian’s standards.
For instance, Bai Lian adored the jade rabbit, but she had no intention of turning herself into another rabbit.
The swordsman, unoffended by her remark, remained composed.
Hovering mid-air, he summoned three swords, which began to orbit him. Mysterious runes illuminated the sky.
“Elder Martial Brother!”
A voice suddenly called from outside Cao’s mansion.
It was the female disciple in white, the one who had just arrived.
She had followed the Blood Demon to the East Wilderness, only for the swordsman to abandon the group halfway through.
The swordsman ignored her, focusing solely on Bai Lian.
The woman in black remarked dryly, “Our Elder Martial Brother has lost his mind again.”
“What should we do?” the woman in white asked anxiously.
The woman in black chuckled. “Wait for him to calm down, or beat him into submission.”
The woman in white glared at her. “Can’t you offer a better solution?”
“What else is there?”
“Fine, I’ll call my master!”
The woman in black shook her head, unconvinced. “That probably won’t help.”
The woman in white fell silent before finally whispering, “How did he end up like this?”
The woman in black began to recount the story.
“Before entering Thousand Sword City, he lived in a small mountain village. One winter, while wandering the mountains, he rescued an injured white fox with a broken leg.
“He nursed it back to health, asking for nothing in return. Over time, the fox recovered.”
She paused, her tone growing darker.
“But one evening, as he returned home with firewood, the scent of blood filled the air.
“He rushed into the village, only to find carnage—bodies of his loved ones and neighbors strewn everywhere.
“And in the village head’s house, he found the white fox… devouring a corpse.”
The woman’s voice dropped to a chilling whisper.
“The fox looked at him and spoke, ‘You saved my life. For that, I’ll spare yours. Leave.’
“But he didn’t leave. Instead, he charged at the fox in blind rage.”
The woman in black smirked grimly. “I guess that’s when his mind broke.”
“Can’t you phrase it better? Like, ‘his heart shattered’ or ‘his world crumbled’?” the woman in white interjected angrily.
“Whatever you call it, bad things happen to good people,” the woman in black replied coldly. “His master saved him from the fox, and since then, he’s sworn to kill every magic beast in the world.”
The woman in white whispered sadly, “Elder Martial Brother is a tragic figure.”
The woman in black scoffed. “And what about the magic beasts he’s slaughtered? Aren’t they pitiful too?”
“…”
“With his personality, Thousand Sword City’s cultivation suits him perfectly. But strength is limited. He can’t exterminate all magic beasts, so…”
The woman in black suddenly turned her head, a sinister smile exposing her pale teeth.
“He’ll die.”
The woman in white stepped back, silenced by the bleak prediction.
The woman in black patted her companion’s shoulder. “Don’t follow his path. If everyone in Thousand Sword City were as mad as him, it’d be unbearable.”
“…”
The woman in black turned her gaze toward Bai Lian, noticing her calm demeanor.
“You’re possessed,” she remarked coldly to the swordsman.
“You don’t understand,” he muttered, shaking his head.
“It doesn’t matter,” Bai Lian said with a faint smile. “I’ve seen countless people like you who can’t be reasoned with. The cure? A beating. And if that fails, I’ll kill you myself.”
“Then try it.”
Bai Lian narrowed her eyes. She wasn’t sure she could defeat the swordsman without exerting herself.
But she had to try.
In her eyes, he was a patient.
And if the patient was beyond saving, the doctor’s duty was to eradicate the disease at its root.
A pillar of white light shot into the sky.
Bai Lian’s Dirt Free Sword emerged from her chest and spun above her head.
Frost and snow materialized from thin air, spreading rapidly. Moisture in the atmosphere transformed into a swirling blizzard.
Yet, under Bai Lian’s control, the snow didn’t touch Gucheng County.
“This style…”
The woman in black squinted, sensing familiarity.
Using a spell, her eyes glowed with blue light as she peered past Bai Lian’s disguise. A knowing smile spread across her face as she spotted the ★ mark in Bai Lian’s eyes.
Meanwhile, the woman in white fretted. “If Elder Martial Brother harms civilians, Thousand Sword City will be held accountable!”
“Don’t worry,” the woman in black said dismissively. “Your Elder Martial Brother isn’t as powerful as you think.”
“?”
“That’s Bai Lian,” she continued smugly. “Even your master couldn’t rival her—she’s the reincarnation of an Immortal Emperor!”
The swordsman and Bai Lian clashed, their swords streaking through the air like blazing comets.
Moments later, Bai Lian charged forward, breaking through the blizzard. With a single punch, she knocked the Sun Covering Sword away and landed a powerful blow on the swordsman’s face.
Bang!
The battle had truly begun began.
