Chapter 15: You Are Possessed! (1)
For ordinary people, what they saw was merely the intersection of light and shadow.
Under the dark clouds, purple lightning clashed with white sword light, like two serpents entwined in combat.
The impression left was far from wonderful—it exuded an eerie and foreboding atmosphere.
Just looking at it filled people with fear.
The residents of Gucheng County had never witnessed such a terrifying phenomenon.
The dark clouds loomed ominously, appearing as though they were about to crush the city.
Gradually, the clouds grew darker and darker until they fully merged with the sky, forming what resembled a black abyss.
The rain, which had started abruptly, now poured down like a torrential waterfall.
Whoa——
In no time, the river coursing through the city overflowed, and it seemed inevitable that the entirety of Gucheng County would soon be submerged.
The air was thick with moisture and dread.
The people standing outside Cao’s mansion were paralyzed with fear.
If this continued, they were certain they would all perish!
The chilling sensation caused everyone to huddle together, trembling.
A single thought reverberated in their minds:
“The water is too cold… the head is too cold!”
Bai Lian’s expression grew solemn.
Her spiritual Qi formed an invisible barrier that enveloped the entirety of Gucheng County.
Within seconds, the city was spared from the impending flood.
The surging waters receded, diverted by Bai Lian’s spiritual Qi, which transformed them into a fine, drifting mist.
Thus, as the battle in the sky intensified, Gucheng County was suddenly shrouded in an ethereal white fog. The light from the clash above painted the mist with hues as dazzling as the aurora.
Bai Lian observed the scene intently.
The swordsman was undeniably powerful.
With just two swings of his sword, he had forced the snake dragon to retreat several steps.
The purple lightning striking the invisible barrier clearly carried the aura of burning blood.
If this continued, the snake dragon would inevitably be slain by the swordsman.
But something about this didn’t feel right.
In Bai Lian’s memory, the snake dragon wasn’t supposed to die so soon.
After all, her fifth Martial Sister was only ten years old at this time, and it would still be seven years before she joined the Duxian Sect in the game.
The snake dragon’s death wasn’t meant to occur for another ten years.
Perhaps the snake dragon possessed some special means of survival.
Or maybe this battle hadn’t existed in the game at all—it could have been Bai Lian’s actions that altered the future.
For a moment, all was still.
Then, a pair of golden eyes pierced through the dark clouds.
The snake dragon had opened its eyes.
A blazing light descended from the heavens. Under its golden radiance, the swordsman ceased his attack.
His face looked dignified.
This was a [Field] called “The Dragon’s Stateliness.”
This snake dragon was no ordinary creature.
It seemed impossible to kill the snake dragon with just two swords.
The swordsman also possessed the Heart Reading Sword.
This sword was different from the other two—it had been forged with his heart’s blood.
It was a [Human Sword].
When refined to its peak, the swordsman could merge his body with the sword, break through the Heavenly Disaster, and ascend to the Immortal World.
Because this sword was so extraordinary, the swordsman rarely used it in battle.
But now, there was no other choice.
He had only been passing through the area, with other important matters to attend to. He needed to resolve this quickly.
Green Thunder Sun Chaser, the snake dragon, was growing anxious.
It tapped into its Source Power to wield the Dragon’s Stateliness.
In the past, this power was enough to make opponents retreat immediately.
But this swordsman didn’t retreat.
He was overly confident.
Not only did he refuse to back down, but he was determined to fight.
The snake dragon noticed the swordsman reach for the last sword at his back.
When the swordsman drew the blade, it appeared ordinary at first glance.
But the killing Qi emanating from it was so intense that it seemed tangible, slicing the clouds and rain into pieces as it moved.
“This is bad,” thought the snake dragon.
It realized it might not be able to protect the cat demon—or even itself.
Run?
The snake dragon hesitated, recalling the demon who had saved it during its weakest moment.
To rescue the snake dragon, the renowned cat demon had sacrificed her ability to cultivate further.
And now, her daughter was in danger…
Alas.
Perhaps this was a cycle of fate.
Resolving itself, the snake dragon’s golden eyes in the clouds began to blaze even brighter.
At the same time, the beggar hiding in the corner, watching the scene, felt a surge of vitality.
He must learn from this powerful swordsman!
As the swordsman prepared to strike the fatal blow with his Flying Sword, Bai Lian saw a new task prompt appear:
[Task 1: Stand by and watch. (Reward: Soft Skill +17)]
[Task 2: Intervene and shout, “Don’t fight again!” (Reward: Magic – Blooming Moments)]
Bai Lian frowned in confusion.
Were the rewards for these two tasks swapped?
Upon questioning the system, she received a firm reply:
[There is no bug in this system. Please rest assured!]
Bai Lian reviewed Task 1 again.
Soft Skill +17—this was the highest skill point reward she had ever encountered.
But the risks were apparent.
Her eyes then shifted to Task 2.
The magic reward, Blooming Moments, was valuable. It could serve as a precursor to Thousands of Flowers, a skill she could use immediately.
Furthermore, mastering this magic would allow her to quickly “ripen” her fifth Martial Sister, transforming her into a girl of seventeen or eighteen.
Of course, Bai Lian had no intention of doing that.
Wasn’t it better to raise a little sister who could act cute and playful?
She chose Task 2.
Not only was it less risky, but she couldn’t stand idly by while the swordsman killed indiscriminately.
Bai Lian stepped forward decisively. “Don’t fight again!”
The swordsman and the snake dragon halted.
Bai Lian turned to the swordsman. “Did you threaten my Martial Sister just now?”
The swordsman narrowed his eyes.
The snake dragon, sensing a reprieve, seized the opportunity to recover.
“You dare stop me again?”
The swordsman’s expression darkened.
Fool, I’ll smash your head with my fist!
Bai Lian prepared to step forward, but someone suddenly tugged at her clothes.
“?”
She turned to see Ling Xuan stepping in front of her, arms spread wide as if shielding her.
“I’m not your Martial Sister,” Ling Xuan said, her voice trembling as she stared at the swordsman.
She whispered to Bai Lian, “Besides, you have nothing to do with me. You don’t need to worry. Just go away.”
Her tone was low, her spirit subdued, but Bai Lian could clearly see her body trembling slightly.
After all, the swordsman was a “madman” capable of cutting down a snake dragon with his sword.
Even so, Ling Xuan stood her ground.
This was Bai Lian’s fifth Martial Sister!
Bai Lian’s heart warmed.
She gently turned Ling Xuan’s head and patted it.
“You’ll be my Martial Sister soon. Don’t worry—I’m much stronger than you think!”
Bai Lian clenched her fist playfully in front of Ling Xuan.
“…”
Ling Xuan pouted. “Don’t be a liar!”
Even as she protested, she continued to clutch Bai Lian’s dress tightly.
