Chapter 14: Affectionate (2)
Ling Xuan couldn’t speak, but her stubborn gaze remained fixed on the swordsman.
Her grandfather always said, “If you lack the strength, step back.”
He wasn’t wrong. Yet she felt an unshakable reluctance to stand by and let the swordsman kill the big sister.
The swordsman’s voice cut through her hesitation.
“I don’t enjoy killing people, but if you interfere again, I’ll kill you as well.”
His tone left no room for doubt. He was serious.
Ling Xuan looked down at her hands.
They were no match for a sword.
Just then, a hand gently rested on her head. It pressed softly, kneading in a soothing motion.
Ling Xuan tilted her head upward and saw Bai Lian approaching.
Why are you here again?
Bai Lian smiled down at her.
That smile—it was a warmth Bai Lian reserved only for her younger Martial Sisters. Even in front of An Lan, her demeanor was mostly an act of deference.
A new task option appeared before Bai Lian.
This time, she didn’t hesitate. She chose Task 1, which would reward her with Hard Skill +8.
You dare bully my fifth Martial Sister? Absolutely not!
Bai Lian’s gaze shifted to the swordsman.
Where he exuded the chilling presence of ice and snow, Bai Lian radiated something altogether different.
She seemed like a void—an emptiness that drained all warmth, leaving nothing in its wake. A glance at her made people feel hollowed out.
The swordsman’s calm voice challenged her.
“Do you intend to stop me?”
Bai Lian’s reply was firm.
“I’ll stand here and see if you can lay a finger on my Martial Sister.”
At her words, the light in the swordsman’s eyes sharpened into blades, hurtling toward Bai Lian.
But even without activating her Qianhuan Real Eyes, Bai Lian effortlessly deflected the onslaught.
Buzz.
Thunder rumbled in the gray sky, and lightning flashed.
For the first time, a flicker of seriousness crossed the swordsman’s calm face.
“You’re worthy of witnessing my Sun Covering Sword.”
Hiss!
Taoist Ma drew a sharp breath.
What… what terrifying power!
The sheer momentum almost brought him to his knees.
This was no ordinary swordsman.
Even the onlookers, unfamiliar with cultivation, could sense his strength. His confidence alone was proof of his immense power.
Hum.
Bai Lian met the swordsman’s gaze with indifference.
Let’s see which is stronger—your sword or my fist.
She was eager to test the power of her Qianhuan Real Eyes.
Before Bai Lian could make her move, the sky erupted.
Crash!
The heavens split open, and a massive snake dragon emerged from a crack in the clouds, its form illuminated by brilliant yellow lightning.
It was enormous—immense beyond belief.
The creature’s sheer size left everyone speechless.
The Green Thunder Sun Chaser spanned over a hundred meters, its colossal body coiled beneath the dark clouds. Four mighty limbs ended in five razor-sharp toes. Beside its beard floated a purple thunder orb, eerily suspended in the air despite the absence of wind.
A low growl rumbled from its throat.
The purple electric cage that had suppressed the Cao Mansion shattered effortlessly under its presence. The swordsman’s intimidating momentum dissolved into nothing.
As the colossal dragon loomed above, the sky transformed. Clouds stretched for miles, and heavy rain *poured down in torrents.
[*means heavy rain fell down in a sudden and uncontrolled way.]
Whoa——
Countless droplets of water cascaded onto the earth. The rain roared down, wilder than the fiercest summer storm.
It was already morning, yet after the deluge, Gucheng County seemed to plunge into night once again.
Green Thunder Sun Chaser spoke, its voice deep and resonant.
“I had no intention of meddling in such trivial matters, but your actions have thoroughly provoked me.”
The swordsman let out a sharp laugh.
But his eyes betrayed no humor. They were cold and piercing.
“If your displeasure brings me joy, then I welcome it!”
He drew two swords.
One was the Sun Covering Sword, capable of summoning thunder from the void.
The other was the Ground Chasing Sword, which conjured winds from nothingness.
As he wielded both weapons, a scene of apocalyptic devastation unfolded over Gucheng County.
The people of the Cao family were paralyzed with fear.
Young Master Cao and his cousin exchanged horrified glances. Their lips turned pale, and their legs trembled uncontrollably.
“This can’t be happening. It just can’t…”
They had never imagined events would spiral to such a terrifying level.
The darkness above wasn’t just the stormy sky—it mirrored the abyss in their hearts.
Was this still Gucheng County?
No.
This was hell.
“Green Thunder Sun Chaser!”
At that moment, the cat demon burst out of the room.
The torrential rain poured onto her face, mingling with the rolling tears streaming down her cheeks.
She shivered under the weight of the swordsman’s murderous Divine Sense, which locked onto her like a predator.
But her greatest fear wasn’t her own death. It was the thought of leaving the eldest lady vulnerable and without protection.
Memories flashed in her mind—how she had once ventured to Thunder Swamp, desperately begging Green Thunder Sun Chaser to save the eldest lady. Though Green Thunder Sun Chaser had scolded her at the time, it had still bestowed upon her the Essence of the Thunder Swamp, a miraculous remedy capable of curing the eldest lady.
The cat demon had never imagined that in her final moments, Green Thunder Sun Chaser would come to her aid once more.
The majestic dragon cast a deep, thoughtful look at the cat demon.
Sigh…
Its bright, glowing eyes turned to the swordsman.
“Stop and leave,” Green Thunder Sun Chaser commanded.
The swordsman’s defiance was unwavering.
“Today, I will slay the purple dragon in this nameless city!”
“You are too arrogant,” rumbled Green Thunder Sun Chaser, its voice as deafening as thunder itself.
Lightning crackled across the heavens, illuminating the battlefield.
The swordsman wasted no time. He summoned a blade of radiant light and launched himself straight at Green Thunder Sun Chaser.
The Sun Covering Sword and Ground Chasing Sword were weapons forged for one purpose: to slay demons.
