Chapter 38: For My O’Good! (2)
He bowed deeply and spoke with urgency.
“My Lord, I have just received news that the disciples of the Duxian Sect have been sighted at the edge of the Snow Sea. It seems likely they have come in search of Bai Lian.”
The Lord of the Hades Hall waved his hand dismissively.
“Bai Lian is not here. You have no reason to worry.”
Suddenly, a thought struck him—a memory of another disciple from the Duxian Sect held captive in his prison.
“Release the woman in the cell,” he ordered.
Keeping her locked away serves no purpose. She’s just wasting food.
The Lord of the Hades Hall turned his gaze to the Black Spirit Lord, narrowing his eyes in suspicion. When had the Black Spirit Lord come so close? He was now mere feet away.
“Lord, please, don’t release her!” the Black Spirit Lord pleaded anxiously.
“Why not?”
“I will explain,” the Black Spirit Lord replied, his tone grave. “The woman in the cell may very well be your illegitimate daughter.”
“What?”
The Lord of the Hades Hall shot up from his seat, his expression a mixture of disbelief and agitation.
The Black Spirit Lord proceeded to recount the tale of Tong Yao’s escape from prison and her eventual recapture.
Without hesitation, the Lord of the Hades Hall rushed toward the prison.
Behind him, the Black Spirit Lord turned and exchanged a knowing glance with You Gui, who stood quietly in black robes.
“Though we have lost Bai Lian,” the Black Spirit Lord remarked, “this might still turn out to be a blessing in disguise.”
As always, You Gui remained silent, as was his nature.
The Hades Hall was home to extraordinary individuals. While they had failed to conquer the Wuheng Snow Valley, their lord had stumbled upon an unexpected fortune: his own bloodline.
Tong Yao—soon to be renamed Zhao Yao—possessed a purer Nether Bloodline than even the Lord of the Hades Hall himself.
Not only that, but she was also exceptionally talented. Within half a day, she had grasped the cultivation method recorded in the Youming Scroll.
The Lord of the Hades Hall laughed heartily and declared before everyone present,
“My daughter has the potential to revive the glory of the Youming Emperor!”
“Congratulations, my Lord!” the crowd echoed.
A wide smile spread across the Lord’s face.
Bai Lian? She is of no use anymore.
So what if she’s an Immortal Emperor? His daughter was far superior in his eyes.
That woman from Wuheng Snow Valley—one day, his daughter would show her what cruelty truly meant!
—
In the main hall, the Lord of the Hades Hall was discussing strategies with You Gui when someone arrived to report.
“My Lord, an old turtle with a sharp tongue and a round face is approaching!”
A turtle?
The Lord’s expression darkened as he stepped outside to take a look.
To his dismay, it was Bai Lian, standing atop a massive turtle.
With a chilling tone, he addressed her.
“Fairy Bai Lian, what brings you here?”
Bai Lian replied plainly, “I have come to retrieve my junior Martial Sister and take her back to the Duxian Sect.”
The Lord of the Hades Hall snorted dismissively.
“Your Martial Sister is not here.”
“Why lie, my Lord?” Bai Lian asked, unfazed.
The Lord replied coldly, “There is no Tong Yao from the Duxian Sect—only my daughter Zhao Yao!”
For a moment, Bai Lian was taken aback.
“Then allow me to meet her,” she requested.
The Lord of the Hades Hall sneered.
“Fairy Bai Lian, kindly refrain from interfering in my family matters.”
“Can’t I just see her?”
“No.”
Bai Lian sighed but remained calm.
Fortunately, Master Turtle was there. The turtle nodded and said,
“I’ll handle this.”
With a polite tone, the turtle addressed the Lord.
“The Lord of the Hades Hall, I ask you to do me a favor and let Fairy Bai Lian meet Tong Yao.”
The Lord’s frown deepened.
“And if I refuse?”
The turtle smiled. “I am not fond of conflicts.”
Without warning, its massive body pressed against the Hades Hall like a crushing boulder.
Boom!
The floating Hades Hall plummeted thousands of feet, its magical array barely holding.
The turtle spoke again, its voice calm yet heavy.
“Please, for my sake…”
The Lord of the Hades Hall broke into a cold sweat.
“I… I completely agree!” he stammered.
He now understood the source of Bai Lian’s confidence. Despite being only at the Transcendency Stage, she had the backing of such a powerful demon!
Bai Lian was equally astonished by the turtle’s sheer might.
Soon, Tong Yao was brought forth. She stood timidly next to the Lord, her heart torn.
Moments ago, she had been terrified for Bai Lian’s safety. Now, she had suddenly gained a father.
She longed to return to the Duxian Sect and reunite with her master, but she hesitated. The Hades Hall was far more powerful, and she feared bringing harm to her sect or Bai Lian.
Bai Lian looked at her and asked gently,
“Do you wish to return to the Duxian Sect with me?”
Tong Yao hesitated, her heart racing.
“I…”
Before she could respond, the turtle spoke up from above.
“Miss Tong Yao, please be honest. The Lord of the Hades Hall is reasonable.”
The Lord’s face twitched in annoyance, but he dared not object.
Tong Yao understood. The Lord feared the turtle, which was on Bai Lian’s side.
Clenching her fists, she found her courage.
“I want to go with my Elder Martial Sister Bai Lian!” she declared.
The Lord’s expression darkened, but he forced a bitter smile.
“My dear daughter…”
Tong Yao interrupted firmly,
“I believe following my Elder Martial Sister is the best choice for me.”
The Lord of the Hades Hall sighed heavily.
“The bonds of family cannot be forged in a single day,” the turtle remarked kindly.
Finally, the Lord conceded.
“Very well. My beloved daughter, I shall visit you frequently in the Duxian Sect.”
Tong Yao was overwhelmed with relief and joy.
The Lord of the Hades Hall, however, watched Bai Lian with resentment burning in his eyes.
He muttered to himself,
“Immortal Emperor or not, I will take my daughter back someday.”
