Chapter 37: Where Is the Fifth Younger Martial Sister?
The cold wind, though sobbing, couldn’t extinguish people’s curiosity.
“An Immortal Emperor?”
Within mere seconds, this startling revelation spread across both sides of the vast ice field.
“Wasn’t the earlier news about Bai Lian being a reincarnated Star Lord? Could it have been a mistake?”
“It’s hard to say. But what if it turns out to be true?”
“And what about what Bai Lian did on the beach? Didn’t the Snow Spirit Lord take her away?”
“Who knows? Maybe she was hunting down demons.”
Amidst the chatter, a young disciple arrived, brimming with questions.
“How powerful is this Immortal Emperor?”
The elderly cultivator responded, “It’s not about power. An Immortal Emperor is the leader of the Immortals, possessing authority in the Immortal World far surpassing any mortal emperor’s in the mortal realm.”
“That sounds incredible,” the disciple murmured.
“Indeed,” the elder continued, his tone reverent. “A true Immortal Emperor can transcend the flow of time, journey to the past, reverse karma, alter the future, and redefine the laws of the Great Tao.”
“?”
The young disciple looked bewildered.
The elder chuckled. “It’s alright to feel confused—truth be told, even I don’t fully understand it!”
“But one thing is certain: an Immortal Emperor is an entity of unimaginable power.”
The disciple nodded slowly. “I see.”
—
Not far away, in the shadows of the Hades Hall, a man dressed in black appeared before the Lord.
“My Lord, will this…”
The Lord of the Hades Hall grimaced, clutching his chest as though plagued by discomfort. He shook his head. “Bai Lian is known for her kindness. Even if angered, she’ll at most punish me. I’ll handle everything.”
The man in black nodded in silence.
He had watched the Lord grow, witnessing his flaws and triumphs. For all his imperfections, the Lord of the Hades Hall remained devoted to its future.
“You should retreat,” the Lord commanded.
As the people of the Hades Hall dispersed, a female disciple, recently freed from Wuheng Snow Valley, limped toward them. Tears streamed down her face as she stammered through her emotions.
“Oh, Snow Spirit Lord! If I hadn’t accidentally mentioned Bai Lian as a reincarnated Immortal Emperor, I might never have seen you again!”
Despite her tears, her loyalty remained unshaken.
“I never revealed any secrets about Wuheng Snow Valley, no matter how they tortured me!”
The rising sun cast its light upon her back, giving her an almost divine appearance.
How moving!
Even Bai Lian, watching from afar, felt her own emotions stir. She clenched her fists, suppressing the urge to cry.
“Although you protected Wuheng Snow Valley’s secrets,” Bai Lian muttered under her breath, “you exposed mine!”
Resisting the impulse to hurl the disciple into the distance, Bai Lian sighed. “Go back and take care of yourself.”
The disciple bowed deeply before hurrying away.
—
Returning to Wuheng Snow Valley, Bai Lian was met with a desolate sight. The mountains surrounding the valley lay in ruins, replaced by a gaping black crevice.
Surveying the remnants of the protective magic array, she shook her head.
The array, once robust, was now tattered and barely functional. If not for an unexpected twist during the battle—or Xuezhan’s intervention with the Immortal Spirit Stone—the valley would have fallen.
But the sect had grown complacent. They relied solely on Xuezhan without contributing any effort of their own.
Enough.
Summoning the elders, Bai Lian announced her decision to close the valley and focus on her cultivation.
“Snow Spirit Lord,” one elder ventured hesitantly, “how long will your seclusion last?”
“Forever,” Bai Lian replied bluntly.
Gasps filled the room.
“If the Snow Spirit Lord doesn’t emerge for a hundred years,” one elder began, “won’t the valley collapse?”
“No!” Bai Lian’s voice was firm.
She reminded them, “I cannot watch over Wuheng Snow Valley forever. I am the eldest martial sister of the Duxian sect, not your caretaker. Sooner or later, I will ascend to the Immortal World. You must learn to stand on your own!”
Silence fell.
With no objections, Bai Lian left without hesitation.
—
Her thoughts were a whirlwind.
If Wuheng Snow Valley wanted to regain its former glory, they would have to rebuild it themselves. She was done bearing their burdens.
Turning her focus to more pressing matters, Bai Lian recalled the missing fifth martial sister.
“I need divination,” she decided, seeking out the old turtle resting nearby.
As the turtle emerged from its shell, Bai Lian greeted him.
“Master Turtle, I need your help.”
“Looking for someone?”
“Yes.”
The turtle’s eyes glimmered. “Tell me more.”
Bai Lian described the fifth martial sister, Ling Xuan, in vivid detail—from her appearance to her delicate constitution.
Golden veins illuminated the turtle’s shell as it worked. After an anxious wait, it finally spoke.
“I found her!”
It conjured a glowing map in the air.
“She’s near the Thunder Swamp and Guangchang Prefecture.”
Bai Lian’s heart raced. Those locations were close to where she had found Ling Xuan in the game.
It appears that the fifth youngest Martial Sister’s range of activities isn’t very extensive.
That’s understandable—despite her courage, the fifth Martial Sister is still just a ten-year-old girl.
Bai Lian smiled warmly, her eyes narrowing slightly.
“Thank you, Master Turtle!”
The turtle shook his head with a smile.
“It’s not a big deal; it just took a little extra time.”
Xuezhan: “…”
—
Meanwhile, in the small town near Thunder Swamp…
In a lively restaurant bustling with noise and chatter:
“Let’s get started!”
The waiter, a towel draped over his shoulder, approached with a steaming bowl of noodles and carefully placed it on the table.
“Many thanks!”
The girl with a bun in her hair sat eagerly at the table, her short legs swinging with excitement.
“No problem, happy to help,” the waiter replied with a shake of his head before walking away.
After lingering outside the door for five long days, the little girl had finally saved enough money for a bowl of noodles.
That’s really heartbreaking.
And yet, her smile was impossibly sweet.
Her eyes curved like crescent moons, radiating joy, and her kind smile drew the attention of those around her.
She picked up the chopsticks lying beside her.
Looking down at the rich, steaming broth in her bowl, she gently wiped the corners of her mouth, her excitement bubbling beneath the surface.
This bowl of noodles must be savored to the fullest!
After all, she had gone up the mountain to hunt a wild boar just to earn the money for this moment.
Shall we begin?
