Chapter 34: You Are a Saint Today! (2)
A mat had been laid on the ground to prevent Xuezhan from getting cold. She lay still and silent, extremely exhausted after her soul had shattered into innumerable fragments.
Ji Shi had been incredibly sly. While teaching her the concept of Light and Heavy Water, he had deceptively concealed a bug in the cultivation technique—if he were to pass away, she would suffer tremendous injuries as well.
Xuezhan silently shook her head. This was not the right moment to ponder such matters. Attempting to open her eyes, she yearned to capture every detail around her and cement it in her memory. Not just the surroundings, but even Bai Lian’s countenance appeared different. Although Bai Lian maintained a stoic expression, it was apparent that others perceived it as melancholy.
Xuezhan slowly placed her hands on her chest, closed her eyes, and assumed an air of tranquility. “To be honest, I don’t hate my mother at all,” she suddenly spoke up.
Bai Lian gazed at Xuezhan in surprise.
Speaking wholeheartedly in a soft voice, Xuezhan continued, “Although this is not what I had imagined, it is the first time I have found a true purpose in life. I no longer have to aimlessly wander. I just need to look ahead and keep moving. My birth has a purpose too!”
Bai Lian trembled slightly as she grasped Xuezhan’s hand.
A smile spread across Xuezhan’s face. “I may be the only Spirit of Snow in the world, but becoming a human is not so bad after all. At least now I am no longer isolated.”
Even if it was only for half a day, it was comforting to have someone who cared enough to mourn your death. At this moment, she truly resembled a child—the Snow Spirit Lord was only eight years old!
“That’s great,” Xuezhan said softly. While lying on the ground, she slowly stretched out her right hand toward the sky. As she opened her fingers, her palm faced upward toward the scattered stars twinkling above. The night sky was as clear as a Natural Saint, Bai Lian!
Bai Lian considered Xuezhan to be silly and naive, but this was the innocence that children should possess. Don’t overthink it, just do it! She tightened her grip on Xuezhan’s left hand, her gaze tracking Xuezhan’s right hand. She beheld not only the boundless snowfield but also the future of herself and her master.
“Xuezhan.” Bai Lian’s heart felt a tinge of sadness. Her heart throbbed with great force—not the Innocent Heart of the system, but her very own.
“White Emperor Bai Lian, I believe the title ‘Natural Saint’ better suits your temperament,” Xuezhan responded.
“I’m neither an Immortal Emperor nor a Natural Saint. I’m just an ordinary person who can’t save you,” Bai Lian said, shaking her head.
“Such is life,” Xuezhan remarked.
“Life can be altered!” Bai Lian insisted, refusing to believe that life was set in stone.
Xuezhan was taken aback. There was a belief that certain Saints of nature had two pupils. If they could create artificial life, then why couldn’t they create an artificial Saint?
Having made her decision, Xuezhan closed her eyes once more and slowly retracted her right hand, finally stopping it in front of Bai Lian. As she opened it, a white light emerged. Before Bai Lian stood a crystal-clear eye, resembling a snowflake crystal ball—the Qianhuan Real Eye. Xuezhan’s right eye socket was now empty.
“Bai Lian, I cannot control this eye. As an Immortal Emperor, perhaps you have the power to tame it. Besides, I am not going to live much longer, so I am giving it to you.”
“I don’t need it,” Bai Lian immediately protested.
“Bai Lian, if you don’t accept it, I will be heartbroken. I have nothing else to offer you.”
“The Immortal Spirit Stone is sufficient,” Bai Lian replied through clenched teeth.
“That’s the incentive for the transaction, it’s not the same thing. This is my way of showing appreciation for making me laugh, even in times of distress,” Xuezhan spoke firmly.
Bai Lian nodded silently and took the Qianhuan Real Eye. The moment she touched it, the eye shattered into countless snowflake-like crystals, engulfing her like a storm. It was beautiful, like a tree covered in ice crystals. Both the turtle and Xuezhan watched in amazement as the eye revealed a spectacle they had never seen before.
It surrendered and slowly merged into Bai Lian’s body. Her form appeared to be covered in ice and snow—ice flesh and snow bone. Her long hair became white as snow, eyebrows dusted with frost, and snowflakes covered her eyes.
As the Qianhuan Real Eye activated, Bai Lian’s body slowly rose into the air. In that instant, she resembled the Snow Empress! The frigid air surrounding her body congealed into a beam of light, like a sharp blade surging upward into the infinite darkness of the night sky. As the clouds dissipated, brilliant moonlight bathed Xuezhan in a natural glow.
“How beautiful it is…” Xuezhan suddenly began flailing her arms. “Bai Lian, I can’t see a thing!” Her voice mixed with sobs.
Something was wrong. It was evident that she hadn’t fully visualized Bai Lian’s posture in her mind. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“I can’t see a thing!” Xuezhan fought to stand up, but she lacked the strength.
“Xuezhan!” Bai Lian hastily descended to the ground and picked her up, holding her hand firmly. “I’m here, I’m here.”
But Xuezhan couldn’t calm down. “I can’t see anything. I’m completely blind.” Tears began to well up. Even with Bai Lian holding her, she still couldn’t see. She had thought she could leave with a smile, but now she found herself unable to see at all.
“I’ll restore your sight,” Bai Lian said, closing her eyes eagerly.
The turtle immediately stopped her. “It’s futile, and it could harm you.”
“What do you suggest I do?” Bai Lian asked.
The turtle remained silent as Bai Lian looked up helplessly. Should she find Shifu? But it was too late now, and Shifu was also bedridden due to illness. She could only blankly rummage through her storage pendant, taking out medical pills, medicinal materials, flying swords, and materials for refining weapons, placing them all over the floor. It was useless—all of it worthless. Even Medical Pills, which could restore the soul, were useless to Xuezhan now.
What could she do? Bai Lian gazed downward at the ground, feeling powerless as neither an Immortal Emperor nor a Natural Saint. Xuezhan had ceased shouting, yet her body continued to tremble.
Suddenly, the turtle’s paw extended in front of Bai Lian. Resting on it was a metal box containing a piece of green wood. If her memory served correctly, this was what she had discovered on Ji Shi’s corpse.
“This is Ruomu,” the turtle spoke. “You can utilize it to reconstruct Miss Xuezhan’s physique.”
Bai Lian’s eyes suddenly brightened. “Please instruct me on how to do it!”
The turtle nodded vigorously. Suddenly, a glimmer of hope appeared. For the first time, Bai Lian felt that the glacier was not entirely cold—it contained some warmth.
