Chapter 32: The Invincible Way of Double Pupil
The Snow Spirit Lord allowed herself to fully relax, both body and mind, before collapsing onto the bed.
Small, white, and delicate.
[Actually, I am 23 years old!]
In this moment, the Snow Spirit Lord looked as vulnerable as a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
Actually, that’s exactly what she was.
If Bai Lian harbored any malicious intent, she could easily intrude upon the Snow Spirit Lord’s divine sense and enslave her.
The human soul is equipped with a series of automatic defense mechanisms. Cultivators usually struggle to eliminate these barriers.
The Snow Spirit Lord had two reasons for acting this way. First, she feared Bai Lian might not trust her and would harm her again—a pain she could not bear. Second, she believed in Bai Lian’s “nature,” more accurately described as the “heart of the Immortal Emperor.”
As an Immortal Emperor, Bai Lian held many ways to deal with her, so it made no difference whether she was vigilant or at ease.
With these thoughts in mind, the Snow Spirit Lord completely surrendered to Bai Lian.
As Bai Lian’s soul gently probed her mind, she patiently guided him to the memories long locked away.
Go deep.
Chase the dream.
Hold the long wormwood.
Sway towards the greener grass.
And so, in the wonderful realm between dreams and reality, Bai Lian returned to the past.
—
Thousands of years ago.
The Snow Sea—an unyielding wasteland of ice and snow, locked in perpetual winter. Even the hardiest of Eskimos would find it difficult to survive in such an environment, and for ordinary people, it was nearly impossible.
The last inhabitants here were a group of farmers.
Originally, the Wuheng Snow Valley was a small, insignificant sect. But like any other, smaller sects go through periods of prosperity.
On a certain fateful day, a fierce monster clashed with the former Snow Spirit Lord of Wuheng Snow Valley.
The battle was brutal. Blood flowed, foam flew, and torrents of water poured over the glacier.
The Snow Spirit Lord was beaten down, weakened and on the verge of fainting.
When the monster leaped, she retaliated by sinking her teeth into its neck.
“Please, eat and drink.”
Despite the monster’s ferocity, it finally succumbed after a prolonged struggle. In the end, it was nothing more than a beast.
After the Snow Spirit Lord absorbed the essence of the monster, her body began to change.
“Oh, my eyes!”
She covered her eyes and rolled in agony on the ground.
It took her half a day to regain control of her body.
She stood in the snow, her right hand pressed against her eyes. As she moved it aside, silver light began to leak out.
She had changed.
The white of her right eye had turned black.
The water-blue pupils in both eyes split into two.
Even after thousands of years, when Bai Lian gazed upon her, it still felt as if her soul had been stolen.
She was shocked.
This was the power of the laws of Heaven and Earth. When the power is strong enough, it can kill someone simply by being remembered.
A name involuntarily came to Bai Lian’s mind—
Qianhuan Real Eyes.
This was a rare and extraordinary constitution!
The power of the Qianhuan Real Eyes caused the Snow Spirit Lord’s strength to increase at an unbelievable rate.
Within just one hundred years, Wuheng Snow Valley had become one of the top sects, and the Snow Spirit Lord had earned a reputation as the supreme illusionist.
But good times don’t last long.
The truth was, the Snow Spirit Lord’s Qianhuan Real Eyes were not a natural gift.
She couldn’t provide enough energy to maintain their power.
Eventually, her cultivation base collapsed, and she was unable to ascend to the Immortal World.
Over a decade later, she passed away, a smile on her face.
She had started as nothing but a nobody but died in glory, still reigning as the ruler of the Snow Sea.
—
Five hundred years ago.
Around the time when An Lan first joined the Duxian sect, Wuheng Snow Valley produced another “supreme illusionist.”
This illusionist was the mother of the current Snow Spirit Lord—Xuezhan.
Born with Qianhuan Real Eyes and exceptional talent, one of her eyes possessed extraordinary power.
In Wuheng Snow Valley, the people believed that the valley would soon regain its former glory.
But alas, the former Snow Spirit Lord faced a dilemma with one of her eyes.
It was not a blessing—it was a curse.
The cost of activating the Qianhuan Real Eye was too great, and even the resources of Wuheng Snow Valley couldn’t support it.
Unable to activate it, she chose to seal it away instead.
—
Sixteen years ago.
On a cold, windy night, snowflakes drifting gently in the air, the former Snow Spirit Lord entered her daughter’s room.
She was dying.
Her face was pale as death, and she slumped in a wooden chair, eyes vacant.
Squeezing her daughter’s small hand, she whispered, “I’m so sorry, Xuezhan. I regret ever bringing you into this world. It’s all my fault. My selfishness led to all this.”
The current Snow Spirit Lord, Xuezhan, was small—just as petite as she was now.
She had no vitality—just as uninteresting as she was now.
She didn’t understand a word her mother said, and Bai Lian, who was also listening, was just as confused.
However, upon hearing the former Snow Spirit Lord’s grievance, Bai Lian began to understand the challenges that Xuezhan would soon face.
The first problem was the chaos within Wuheng Snow Valley.
The power of Wuheng Snow Valley had always been centered around the former Snow Spirit Lord. Yet Hades Hall had more diversified strengths.
With the former Snow Spirit Lord’s passing, all responsibilities fell upon the young Xuezhan, who was only seven years old at the time.
Could a seven-year-old really be entrusted with running a massive sect?
But that was precisely what the former Snow Spirit Lord intended.
She had a plan.
Xuezhan, since birth, had demonstrated exceptional spiritual aptitude.
The former Snow Spirit Lord gave her three distinct puppets, including herself, so that Xuezhan could establish contracts and take over her role, safeguarding the Wuheng Snow Valley until the next generation could step up.
“Don’t worry, Xuezhan. As long as you keep this secret, everything will be safe. I’ve already handled all the matters within the sect. You only need to sit back, and the Elders will take care of the rest.”
Bai Lian found the plan quite impressive.
Thanks to the former Snow Spirit Lord’s prestige, Xuezhan could intimidate other sects by occasionally presenting herself in public while controlling her mother’s body.
But there was one condition—Ji Shi had to be eliminated!
Unfortunately, Ji Shi was still alive.
How could a seven-year-old like Xuezhan possibly stand against Ji Shi?
Her only option was to continue pretending to be obedient in front of Ji Shi.
Fortunately, Ji Shi spent most of her time in the bamboo forest, and since Xuezhan’s soul perfectly matched the former Snow Spirit Lord’s body, Ji Shi never suspected the change.
—
At that moment, Xuezhan—now the little girl guiding Bai Lian through her memories—turned to glance at her.
Bai Lian nodded silently.
She had witnessed all of Xuezhan’s secrets.
There were no reservations.
What she had seen was far more significant than merely viewing Xuezhan’s body; in the cultivation world, it was the soul that held true power.
The most fascinating connection here was the union of souls, not bodies.
Xuezhan held her chest tightly, her gaze locked on Bai Lian.
“I never intended to go back on my word. If I wanted to renege, why would I have told you everything?”
Bai Lian, realizing she had misunderstood Xuezhan, had no intention of offering an apology.
Though it was her fault that Xuezhan had cried, it was because Xuezhan hadn’t been entirely truthful.
“Little mischief must be disciplined—adults even more so.”
“Please give me the Immortal Spirit Stone first.”
Bai Lian addressed Xuezhan.
Yet, when she looked around, she realized Xuezhan was nowhere to be found.
Where had she gone?
Bai Lian glanced frantically, her mind racing.
She was still within Xuezhan’s soul, able to invoke a response with just a thought.
Then…
Suddenly, a light door appeared in front of her.
Bai Lian, still in confusion, approached.
As she stepped through, she realized.
This was no longer Xuezhan’s memory.
It was the former Snow Spirit Lord’s.
A truth buried deep within Xuezhan’s soul, one that even Xuezhan herself had never seen before, was now laid bare before Bai Lian.
—
Twenty-three years ago.
Snow fell heavily outside a bamboo room.
In a simple bamboo room, the former Snow Spirit Lord carefully retrieved the Qianhuan Real Eye from the sealed box.
She wasn’t certain if the path ahead would work, but she knew she had no choice but to take the risk. The Qianhuan Real Eye, with its unmatched power, could not remain hidden any longer.
A sense of unease gripped her as she placed the Qianhuan Real Eye into the magic array before her.
The wind howled, and the clouds began to swirl.
A soft white light radiated from the magic array, quickly filling the bamboo house, casting everything into an ethereal glow.
Bai Lian could see nothing.
Only a faint, distant sound reached her ears.
Moments passed.
Suddenly, a loud cry rang out from within the magic array.
“Wow!”
The cry cut through the white light, striking at the very heart of the former Snow Spirit Lord.
“My child, my child!”
With a sense of urgency, she stepped forward and gently cradled the newborn in her arms.
As her eyes fell upon the child’s unique right eye, tears welled up in her gaze.
It was done.
With a tender smile, she reached out and lightly tickled the child’s nose.
“From this day forward, you will be my daughter. Your name shall be Xuezhan!”
Artificial life… Is it truly possible?
It became clear—Xuezhan had not been born; she had been created!
No wonder her father never appeared in her memories.
Bai Lian stood frozen, stunned by the revelation.
