Chapter 31: Victimize the Vulnerable and Cower Before the Powerful (2)
Take An Lan, for example. Despite her appearance resembling that of Bai Lian’s sister, she is over 500 years old in this life alone and has lived for thousands of years in her previous one.
However, being 23 years old doesn’t necessarily correspond to the actual age of the Snow Spirit Lord. It’s almost laughable to think that the Snow Spirit Lord could have beaten the Lord of the Hades Hall to death at the age of one, isn’t it?
Bai Lian’s expression darkened as she demanded, “Where is the real Snow Spirit Lord? If you don’t tell me, I’ll treat your other foot the same way!”
“I… hahaha…”
The Snow Spirit Lord was about to explain, but the rush of emotions overwhelmed her, leaving her struggling to form words.
She was drenched in sweat, as if she had just been pulled out of a river. The shock of it all made her feel more defeated than Ji Shi’s earlier attack.
She held the title of Snow Spirit Lord at Wuheng Snow Valley, a position she’d earned respect for, and she was one of the few people in the entire Snow Sea who commanded such authority. There were only a handful who would dare show her any disrespect.
But Bai Lian…
The Snow Spirit Lord’s anger surged.
While she hadn’t lied about her identity, Bai Lian remained skeptical of her claims. Though the Snow Spirit Lord wanted to explain herself, the increasing sensitivity of her body made it impossible to say anything clearly.
“Please stop!” she cried out in desperation.
“I apologize,” she quickly corrected herself. “I was mistaken.”
Her thoughts swirled. Familiar faces flashed through her mind. Then, as a loving face passed through her thoughts, it felt like she had fallen into an icy cave, and her tears flowed freely.
“I’m crying… for Mom… I’m crying…”
Tears welled up.
Bai Lian froze, taken aback. She found the word “shot” strangely fitting.
The Snow Spirit Lord’s tears were like tiny streams, trickling down her mask.
But that was just the beginning. The Snow Spirit Lord’s crying only grew louder, and soon she became a fountain of tears. Water poured from her eyes, and in an instant, Bai Lian’s feet were submerged.
“?”
What was going on?
As the air around them shifted, Bai Lian finally understood the reason.
This was the result of the Snow Spirit Lord’s Light and Heavy Water abilities spiraling out of control. The entire house was at risk of being swept away!
Bai Lian quickly used her spirit Qi to evaporate the water surrounding them, but a headache began to form.
She smacked her forehead in frustration.
Is this a performance, or is she really like this?
If the Snow Spirit Lord kept it up, Bai Lian might just find herself dragged into the mess.
But the Snow Spirit Lord cried on, unabated.
Bai Lian, unwilling to escalate things further, tried to soothe her. Seeing the Snow Spirit Lord’s tear-streaked face reminded her of her fifth Martial Sister, who was still missing.
“Let’s go,” Bai Lian said, her tone softening. “I’ll believe you this time.”
“Please don’t cry,” she continued, comfortingly, as she took off the Snow Spirit Lord’s wet shoes and socks, replacing them with dry ones.
Even after dressing her, the Snow Spirit Lord remained upset. Bai Lian had to pull some snacks from her chest to calm her down.
“Here, try these…”
The snacks were a variety of sweets: candies, candied fruits, biscuits, and spicy sticks.
“Wait a minute, this is wrong…”
In her haste, Bai Lian quickly stuffed something back into her chest—some secret medicine she’d nearly forgotten about. Then, she piled the snacks around the Snow Spirit Lord, hoping to tempt her with treats.
As she leaned closer, Bai Lian caught a glimpse of the Snow Spirit Lord’s eye that had previously been hidden by her mask. It was dull, devoid of emotion, a shadow of grayness.
Wait. Could the Snow Spirit Lord have an eye problem?
Before she could question it, the Snow Spirit Lord suddenly howled, her voice filled with anguish. She raised her hands and struck Bai Lian’s chest.
Pa! Pa! Pa!
Her punches caused Bai Lian to stagger slightly from the force.
“…”
Bai Lian’s expression hardened. Although she had originally planned to defeat the Snow Spirit Lord once more, she ultimately held back.
Impressive skill.
A soft thud sounded as the Snow Spirit Lord recoiled, her fist swelling slightly from the impact.
Bai Lian sighed in relief.
The Snow Spirit Lord stopped crying but turned away from her, cheeks puffed with anger. When Bai Lian pushed the snacks towards her again, she turned further away.
Reluctantly, Bai Lian pushed the snacks toward her once more.
Unable to resist any longer, the Snow Spirit Lord snapped, “I’m twenty-three years old! Does White Emperor Bai Lian really think I still look like a child?”
“…”
Bai Lian stayed silent, but her thoughts raced. Who was the girl who had pretended to be eight years old just moments ago?
The Snow Spirit Lord, eager to prove herself, spoke again.
“Though it may sound strange, I am the Snow Spirit Lord. I took over this role sixteen years ago. I’m the only one in the Wuheng Snow Valley who knows the truth!”
“Really?” Bai Lian asked, confused.
The Snow Spirit Lord nodded. “The Snow Spirit Lord recognized by others is my mother.”
Bai Lian’s eyes widened in shock. “Did you really turn your own mother into a puppet?”
At that, the Snow Spirit Lord stood up suddenly, as if to strike her. But as soon as she realized Bai Lian was an Immortal Emperor, her hesitance took over, and she withdrew her hand.
I can’t afford to anger her!
“How could I even think of that? My mother… let’s not talk about it…”
The Snow Spirit Lord’s expression turned serious as she stood before Bai Lian, radiating an undeniable sense of dignity.
“Come inside and see for yourself,” she said, beckoning.
She reclined, fully opening the sea of her divine sense to Bai Lian.
“You allowed me to do this,” she said softly.
After confirming that the Snow Spirit Lord wasn’t lying, Bai Lian allowed her Divine Sense to enter her body directly.
