Chapter 30: The Eight-Year-Old Snow Spirit Lord! (1)
The Snow Spirit Lord lay paralyzed on the ground, momentarily forgetting the peril that surrounded her.
Her mind was consumed by a single image—Bai Lian effortlessly killing Ji Shi.
Except for the little effort she exerted while defeating Ji Shi, Bai Lian had barely displayed any real strength throughout their journey.
Yet, she triumphed so easily.
Why?
Because Bai Lian was both immensely strong and exceedingly clever!
“Hiss—”
The Snow Spirit Lord gasped, drawing in the icy air around her.
The power of the Immortal Emperor is unimaginably dreadful!
Bai Lian’s unmatched wisdom shone as brightly as the sun, evident even in her past deeds. In Nanwang City, she had dismantled a wicked plot to destroy Nanwang Country without breaking a sweat.
And now, she had solved Ji Shi’s puzzle—a riddle that had stumped even the Snow Spirit Lord for over a decade—using only her keen intellect.
The Snow Spirit Lord discreetly shook her head.
When she first captured Bai Lian, she had thought her nothing more than average.
But now…
It was all too clear. Bai Lian must have allowed herself to be captured on purpose!
Sometimes, the gap between two people was even wider than the gap between a person and a turtle!
The Snow Spirit Lord shuddered, her heart caught between fear and admiration.
She was terrified of being toyed with by Bai Lian. And yet… she couldn’t help but admire her greatness.
If only I could be as remarkable as Bai Lian…
Suddenly, the Snow Spirit Lord’s body convulsed. A wave of dizziness overtook her.
She… she couldn’t hold on any longer.
With a muffled putong, the three Snow Spirit Lords riding atop the turtle collapsed in unison, their bodies slumping lifelessly to the ground.
“…”
Bai Lian stood there, stunned into silence.
For a moment, she thought of offering an explanation:
“I am not a reincarnated Immortal Emperor, and I don’t even know where this turtle came from. In short, let’s not believe or spread baseless rumors!”
But before she could speak, her attention shifted to the Snow Spirit Lord lying unconscious at her feet.
Bai Lian’s heart tightened with unease.
If the Snow Spirit Lord finds out the truth about me, I might not survive her wrath!
And it wasn’t just the Snow Spirit Lord who seemed dangerous—the turtle beneath her feet also gave off an unsettling aura.
Stay calm. Don’t panic.
I’ll play along for now. Ensuring my safety comes first.
With that thought, Bai Lian quickly made her way over to Ji Shi’s corpse.
Though Ji Shi was no longer alive, his belongings had remained miraculously intact.
The first thing she found was a treasure trove of Spirit Stones and Medical Pills—resources Ji Shi had used to prolong his life. These would undoubtedly prove invaluable to Bai Lian as well.
Next came a spare astrolabe and a collection of rare materials for crafting magic arrays and refining tools. Each item held immense value.
Lastly, she uncovered a piece of green wood carefully preserved within a metal box. The moment Bai Lian touched it, a soothing warmth spread through her body, leaving her with a sense of calm and renewal.
This must be something extraordinary, Bai Lian thought.
I’ll ask the sect leader about it once I return to the Duxian Sect.
After carefully storing all the items in her chest, Bai Lian allowed herself a small, satisfied smile.
Great!
With this newfound wealth, she could finally afford to support her three Younger Martial Sisters—and the jade rabbit—without worry.
As she walked back to her original position, she cast a calm, assessing glance at the turtle.
Stare…
It was the turtle who broke the silence first.
He cleared his throat and spoke, his tone polite and deferential.
“Fairy Bai Lian, it is I, your Master…”
But then he froze, his words trailing off.
Wait!
The turtle’s expression stiffened as he suddenly remembered An Lan’s warning:
“Don’t tell Bai Lian that I’ve been here, or I’ll dismantle your shell!”
A cold shiver ran through the turtle’s body. Dangerous! Too dangerous!
Quickly, he shook the water off his head and changed his approach.
“I’m a turtle from the Return Ruins in the East Sea,” he said smoothly, adopting a more formal tone.
Bai Lian nodded lightly.
“I see!”
I’ve never heard of it, she thought.
The turtle continued, his voice filled with admiration.
“Fairy Bai Lian, your reputation precedes you. Even in the depths of the sea, I’ve heard tales of your greatness and longed to meet you. It is an honor to finally do so!”
I don’t believe a single word you’re saying, Bai Lian thought, though she maintained her composure.
As someone with a “high EQ,” she replied diplomatically:
“Those are just rumors. They can’t be taken as truth.”
The turtle chuckled nervously.
“Fairy Bai Lian, you are far too humble.”
Despite his praise, the turtle couldn’t shake the unease he felt. Bai Lian was shrouded in an aura of death, and by all accounts, she should have perished long ago.
Yet here she stood, not only alive but victorious over Ji Shi.
There’s something strange about her…
Perhaps Bai Lian was blessed by the heavens for her good deeds.
With a sigh, the turtle spoke again.
“Fairy Bai Lian, where would you like to go? I can offer you a ride.”
At that moment, a new set of task options appeared before Bai Lian’s eyes:
[Task 1: Turn down the turtle (Reward: Alchemy +3)]
[Task 2: Accept the turtle’s generosity (Reward: Painting +2)]
Both options offer skill points…
Still shaken from the events that had unfolded, Bai Lian decided to take a moment to compose herself.
