Chapter 28: Rumors Know No Bounds! (1)
—
It’s too risky!
Just a moment ago, Bai Lian was aimlessly wandering through the infinite starry sky, searching for the Ancient Starry Sky Road.
However, the instant she stepped out of the astrolabe, a stranger came charging at her from the distance, wielding thousands of swords. The sight was enough to terrify her.
Her first instinct was to turn and flee.
But after comparing their speeds, she quickly realized escape was impossible.
—
Returning to the body…
No!
Her soul was unable to return to her physical form.
“It’s over!”
Despair engulfed Bai Lian.
“You told me this danger was only worth 8 points of Light Skill? Damn system! Are you kidding me?”
But there was no time to complain.
She clenched her right fist, gathering every ounce of strength, and prepared to block Ji Shi’s attack.
—
Hahaha!
Ji Shi laughed maniacally, his voice echoing across the void.
“Closer! Closer!”
He wasn’t just closing the distance between himself and Bai Lian’s soul; he was drawing nearer to his dream—his guiding light!
—
Ji Shi’s Past
Ji Shi was no ordinary cultivator. He hailed from a bygone “Yuan,” once a trusted follower of an Immortal Emperor of that era.
That Immortal Emperor had discovered ancient artifacts left behind by a fallen god. It was from these relics that Ji Shi learned of the Immeasurable Disaster and the Ancient Starry Sky Road.
Using this knowledge, he survived the calamity that marked the end of his era and managed to extend his life through sheer determination.
But even the strongest efforts have limits.
—
“If you fail to become an Immortal Emperor, everything you possess will eventually slip away.”
Strength was paramount.
Even if Ji Shi abandoned his human form and hid in the shadows, death would still loom over him.
Every waking moment was consumed by the fear of death—a fear so overwhelming it nearly drove him mad.
—
During the last “Yuan,” Ji Shi had possessed extraordinary talents, enough to ascend to Immortal Emperor. But the sudden Heaven and Earth Disaster shattered his plans, disrupting his attempt to open the Door of the Immortal Emperor.
He was bitter. He was furious.
But above all, he refused to perish.
—
A Desperate Plan
Ji Shi sought not just survival but transformation. To mend his corrupted soul, he needed a vessel capable of becoming an Immortal Emperor.
After falling to North Luzhou from the Immortal World, he was rescued by the Snow Spirit Lord. From that moment, Ji Shi resolved to seize control of his destiny.
The Snow Spirit Lord had potential. Her talent was sufficient for immortality, provided she avoided premature death. Ji Shi decided to consume her soul and take over her body.
This would grant him an additional 200 years—enough time, he believed, to ascend to the Immortal World and find a better vessel.
But such a plan was fraught with risks. The disturbance caused by his soul would shorten his lifespan, yet he had no choice.
He couldn’t sit and wait for death.
—
Bai Lian’s Arrival
Everything changed with Bai Lian’s appearance.
Bai Lian was a Natural Saint, a reincarnated Star Lord. Her soul was stronger than Ji Shi’s, making a direct confrontation unwise.
His initial plan was simple: possess the Snow Spirit Lord first, then use her strength to overpower Bai Lian.
But the Snow Spirit Lord, sensing danger, resisted.
—
A Bold Move
Ji Shi refused to give up. He chose the riskier path—to devour Bai Lian’s soul directly.
With a ferocious grin, he taunted her.
“Bai Lian, you’ve been tricked!”
Trapping her with cunning, he moved swiftly to strike.
The Star Lord’s weak point was her back, between the Shinto acupoint and Lingtai acupoint. Ji Shi’s confidence soared.
“Go ahead, Ji Shi. Take over Bai Lian’s body!”
—
An Unexpected Turn
White light suddenly illuminated the void.
At the critical moment, An Lan intervened.
She didn’t use her lance but relied on the floating astrolabe instead. Her Divine Sense surged into the depths of the astrolabe like a spear, determined to protect Bai Lian.
However, something unexpected occurred.
The astrolabe began to tremble violently.
—
“What is that?”
The Snow Spirit Lord’s gaze was drawn to the astrolabe, her eyes wide with alarm.
It expanded and contracted, pulsating with an otherworldly energy.
As Ji Shi’s Soul Chasing Blade descended upon Bai Lian, the astrolabe finally unleashed its power.
—
Boom!
The explosion shook the entire starry sky.
White light erupted like a shaken bottle of Coke, engulfing the scene.
It happened too quickly—too violently.
In an instant, the entire “island” was swallowed by the light.
But this was only the beginning.
The light surged upward, an infinite curtain spreading across the void, consuming the vast darkness.
